2 out of 5 eggsGood while it works.

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Easy to install, and it does the job

Cons: It doesn't seem to have a long lifespan. I installed it less than a year ago, and it's already dead. Looking at other reviews, this seems to be a common problem.

Other Thoughts: If you do plan on using this SSD, be sure to make frequent back ups.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat GB per $

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: The best value in SSD I have found yet. I've used the Crucial M500s and they have been great, but this drive has wowed me for the price. I purcahsed it as a shell shocker for only $75 and free shipping.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: CrystalDiskMark x64

1 out of 5 eggsCompletely unreliable

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: If you enjoy losing your data and waiting for replacement drives to come in the mail, these are perfect.

Cons: I originally bought two of these to use in raid on 5/15/2013. One of them died after 4 months. Manufacturer replaced it, had to reformat the remaining drive to use while I waited 10 days for replacement. New one came, left it in it's box second of the original drives died today. Going to have to use the other one until I can RMA the second broken one. It's completely unreliable. Don't buy these, you'll regret it. One day you'll just be minding your own business then BAM blue screen, drive vanishes from bios never to be seen again. TWO DEAD IN LESS THAN A YEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Value SSD

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: -Low $/gb
-Faster than my older Kingston SSD
-Raised my Windows Experience Index
-Installation was a snap on Windows 7

Cons: None so far. I doubt you'll find any SSDs this large and this good for $130.

Other Thoughts: Shipping was exceptionally fast on the east coast. I received it 2 days after placing my order, and I selected super saver shipping.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice SSD overall

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Very lightweight, will add no noticeable heft to your portable devices.

Slim 7mm thickness will allow it to fit in virtually any netbook, ultraslim-laptop or compatible tablet PC.

Includes 2mm spacer (bringing unit to a "standard" 9mm thickness) for use in older laptops or as needed. Spacer is perfectly sized and easily applied to the housing of the drive with an adhesive strip around the underside of the spacer. The spacer center is hollow so you can still view the entire drive label, front or back.

Easily installed and formatted using Windows built-in management tools.

Posted very good results on a SATA II test-platform, with one glaring exception (see "Cons" and "Other thoughts" below.)

Cons: Oddly much slower at bootup than an older SATA II SSD from another manufacturer (see "Other thoughts" below.)

Other Thoughts: **NOTE**: This device was only tested on a SATA II netbook, so the following comparison does NOT adequately test its capabilities on a SATA III interface! Do not misinterpret any results as though they were performed at SATA III speeds.

However, that being said, it did not perform nearly as well at bootup times as I expected vs. a 2+ year-old SATA II OCZ Vertex+ SSD. I expected the SanDisk Ultra+ to perform at least as well, if not better, in booting-up than the OCZ drive, but this was not the case as illustrated below:

Test : 1000 MB [C: 38.7% (21.6/55.9 GB)] (x3)
Date : 2014/01/31 13:54:31
OS : Windows 7 Professional SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x86)

Boot Time to Desktop: 38.6s (average of 5 consecutive system boots.)

As you can see, the SanDisk numbers are typically quite a bit better than the OCZ drive, but inexplicably, it simply could not reach the desktop anywhere near as quickly as the OCZ drive, being bested by a stunning 21.7s (average,) making the OCZ nearly 36% faster at booting. This is a critical benchmark to nearly every PC user and usually one of the more noticeable improvements when upgrading from HDD to SSD.

To be fair, the SanDisk should probably be compared to another similar drive on a SATA III platform, but as an upgrade to an older netbook (being the case-in-point,) it just didn't quite do as well as I expected in real-world terms. While the SanDisk Ultra+ seems to be a very solid SSD in its own right, I could only give it a firm 4 Eggs.

1 out of 5 eggsEarlier Model "Ultra" Died After 2 Years

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Sandisk support is prompt but replacement time is about 2 weeks.

Cons: Earlier model worked perfectly then failed suddenly with total loss of all data after 2 years' use.

Other Thoughts: Hope the current model Ultra Plus is more reliable than my earlier model Ultra.
Some might say i shouldn't post here about a previous model, but my experience reflects on Sandisk overall. It's hard to imagine all the flash memory chips in an SSD failing at once. So, one wonders if the controller chip or other electronic components were of low quality., and wonder if the newer models are subject to the same kind of catastrophic failure?
Up until now my opinion of Sandisk has been high, but even the cheapest regular hard drive i ever bought lasted twice this long.

5 out of 5 eggsReplaces failed SanDisk Ultra SATA II

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Fast, cool, worked out of the box. As far as endurance, time will tell.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: My SanDisk Ultra Sata 2 failed after 2 years. Contacted SanDisk Support and received this new Ultra Plus replacement. SanDisk Support is excellent. Will report any future problems. I would recommend SanDisk SSDs based upon the great support I received and also from the performance of this new Ultra Plus.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after four months

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-128G-G25 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Bought this to replace the standard HDD in my netbook so I could improve battery life and speed the old thing up a bit. Worked like a champ - I was able to transfer the image from my existing HDD over to it with no problems and I immediately saw an improvement in the netbook's operation.

Cons: Developed failed sectors and died on me about four months after purchase. That's pretty pathetic in my book. Unfortunately, that means I'll have to go deal with SanDisk's support. Here's to hoping they'll replace it without giving me any grief.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I didn't have anything mission-critical stored on this thing. It still made for an exercise in frustration the week it died, though - It stays readable for a short amount of time when plugged in and as soon as you try and access one of the files in the bad section, it croaks and Windows won't recognize it until it has been unplugged and reattached.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi TechParadox,

My name is Allen from SanDisk support. I am sorry to hear that your SSD is not functioning. SanDisk stands behind the warranty on its products. We recommend you to please contact SanDisk support at 1-866-SANDISK or submit a support request at www.sandisk.com/support.
