5 out of 5 eggsGood

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Bought 2 of these about a year ago. They were a huge upgrade in speed to a regular hard drive. They have been in continuous use for the whole year. One in a desktop, and the other in a laptop that has seen heavy travel and abuse. I have had absolutely no problems with these drives. I coincided these upgrades with new installs of win 7 and had a smooth time of it. Overall I have found these to be a good reliable performance for the price point.

Cons: Not the fastest availible

Other Thoughts: There are faster SSDs out there. However, I found these good for the price point. If you are looking for the fastest SSDs do a little research. If you are looking for something with mid to high level performance upgrading from spinning hard drives I've found these to be a good fit and very reliable so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, Fast Drive

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: I got it at full price a while back, and have been blown away every time I have to use it. Windows starts up in 20 seconds with multiple programs, as well as wicked quick application load times. This makes all other HDD's look ridiculous.

Cons: No much to say here, nothing wrong has popped out at me for a few months usage. Given it DOES have a maximum number of writes, you have to treat it well for it to last. I have a spare WD HDD for all my random files, and important programs and games go on the SSD. Also, when reaching full capacity, the drive will slow down a little (leave 40GB free at all times). This may be a drawback, but everyone purchasing an SSD should know this.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable, fast and cheap.

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Have purchase many of these and at different capacities. Always fast and reliable. It's not the fastest and perhaps it's not for 24/7 operation, but for an average user or even prosumer I think it's a great, balanced product.
And not too expensive.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Fast
good price point

Cons: SSD's don't have a great track record for reliability like HDD's do...only time will tell

Other Thoughts: picked up this SSD while it was on sale for a new build I was doing. Used this drive for OS and work related programs ONLY. So far, this has given me very fast boot up times as well as improved performance in my programs.

4 out of 5 eggsAs advertised

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: For those tech savy, my AS SSD combined score is ~750, with read and write speeds consistently between 300 and 400, so the performance is adequate. For those not tech savy, I achieve a full boot in seconds.

Cons: Had to realign after installing a fresh copy of Win7 but alignment went without hitch and improved my performance.

No TRIM tool or custom drivers/firmware to play with :(

Other Thoughts: I bought this on sale for $~130USD or so. Might be a good idea to wait for a deal.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal!

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Fast and affordable. Got it on sale for $149, really good price.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Installed in my desktop, worked perfectly. It also comes with a foam spacer to make it 9mm thick if needed for certain laptops.

5 out of 5 eggsNo complaints

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Straightforward installation, does what it says on the tin. No issues with reliability yet, and the price point was very attractive.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Going from a standard HDD to the SSD gave a noticeable jump to boot times and made previously interminable load times in games like BF4 no longer noticeable.

If you're installing this alongside existing/new HDD units, remember to read up on how to do this properly (tl;dr: the HDDs should be pulled before installing a Windows OS).

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Solid state drive. Any SSD is going to be more energy efficient and orders of magnitude faster than mechanical drives. This is particularly useful in a laptop environment where drive speeds are typically slow and power is limited.

Cons: From what I hear, this drive benches slower than other brands -- but it's not intended for the enthusiast market. In real world use you'll never know the difference.

Other Thoughts: Apparently the PCB for this takes up maybe only 30% of the housing... makes me feed a bit cheated in some way and I wonder what Sandisk are skimping out on.

Grabbed two of these while they were on sale for a fairly competitive price, though, so I'm fairly happy.

1 out of 5 eggsMid 2009 MBP - Not compatible

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Cheap price

Cons: Not compatible with certain nvidia chipsets in the Mid 2009 line of Macbook pros, leading it to behave more slowly than a traditional SATAI disk. Unable to use computer with it installed.

Other Thoughts: Filing for return and buying a non-sandisk drive that has proven compatible with my nvidia chipset. (MCP7)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear dotLou,

This is Michael from SanDisk support. Please note that the issue that you are facing is due to the Nvidia MCP79 chipset. This SATA chipset does not correctly negotiate the SATA link speed for many SSDs. Using other SSD may also pose a similar situation because the issue lies in the speed negotiation done by MCP79 SATA chipset. A small number of manufacturers have chosen to release a FW that will lock the SSD in SATA 3Gb as a work around. SanDisk has not released an Extreme II SSD FW specific for this Nvidia MCP79 SATA chipset compatibility issue. If there is anything we can assist you with please contact SanDisk support at 1-866-SANDISK or submit a support request at www.sandisk.com./ask.

Thank you,
Michael

1 out of 5 eggsDied after six weeks

This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Pros: Fast, easy to install and set up

Cons: Quit working after minimal use since only had installed a couple of weeks earlier.

Other Thoughts: RMA was easy to obtain over on-line chat and shipped out to them the next day. The contact I dealt with was very cooperative and didn't hesitate to issue the RMA. Now awaiting a replacement. Have two other SanDisk SSD's and they rock with no issues.
