5 out of 5 eggsSuper Drive

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-120G-G25 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Replaced the slow 5400 RPM 1TB drive that came with my Laptop, the process was quick and painless (no re-configuring anything, system recognized the change of drives right away & it turned off auto defrag).Benefits were...
1. My Toshiba Satellite L50-A can now boot up in 3 seconds! (Win 8.1 x64 • i7-4700MQ • 12GB Mem)
2. Click on Photoshop, ready to use in 3.5 seconds
3. Click on After Effects, ready to use in 14 seconds (My PC takes 36 seconds)
4. MS Word 2013 ready to use in 3.5 seconds
5. A normal reboot (not with updates) takes 17 seconds, from click to log in screen..
6. A normal shutdown takes 3 seconds.
5. Everything goes faster!!!

Cons: 1. It doesn't get my kid dressed for school.
2. It doesn't make my breakfast, lunch or dinner
3. It won't stop my wife from complaining.

Other Thoughts: If you don't need a lot of space, this drive is a reasonable deal. (Anything smaller is too small for a laptop.)
I recommend this only if you know how to replace a drive yourself.

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-120G-G25 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: product in good condition when it arrived. works well for a slow SSD

Cons: is not as fast as the SanDisk Extreme and the read is two hundred slower. because of firmware different between the Extreme and the Extreme II they have a problem running in the same array. Even though the Areca ARC 1880-16 SAS card support says their should be now problem. Will not buy Extreme II again.

5 out of 5 eggsBest SSD I've tried yet

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-120G-G25 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I've had this drive roughly 6 months and am still absolutely pleased with it, although it's filling up fast. I have a half-dozen other SSD drives from different manufacturers. I also installed a 240 Extreme II in my boss's older laptop which made it into a new computer and a duplicate in his old office comp (same result). He's ecstatic (although not enough to give me a bonus...). I don't have any of the benchmark tools but I can say subjectively both the 240's are the fastest we have. We have 7 computers between us (home & office) all running Win 7 Pro or Ultimate and all the SSD's load very quickly. Most of the desktops are AMD based boards but 2 are Intel, varying between Asrock 990FX Extreme 4 with Vishera 6300 CPU (my main personal comp) on one end and an old Gigabyte with an E8400 at the other (backup/testing unit). The Extreme 120 in this comp is slower on writes than the 240 version but just enough to notice when transferring large files from a 240 to mine against between the two 240's.

Cons: The only con with this Extreme II 240 I am aware of, for my use, is the slower writes vs the 240 model (which is currently on sale at $175 vs the $135 for the 120 version).

Other Thoughts: I'm going to grab one during this sale if I can scrape up the $$$, mostly because I need the space. I have a lot of programs on this as an OS drive, and roughly 7 terabytes in spinners at any one time for storage and games. I like to keep as many program files on the OS drive as I can because everything loads and runs much quicker with these SSD drives. Even if I miss the sales my next SSD will be the Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB, I'm that pleased with it's performance, specs, and warranty vs the others we have. I haven't tried any of the Samsung or Toshiba SSD models but these Sandisk drives are comparable or often less expensive and the specs aren't that much different from what I have read. I was a bit hesitant at first because some of the other flash drive and card manufacturers have put out substandard SSD drive just to get into the market according to reviews I've read, but Sandisk USD drives always performed well for me so I gave their SSD's a try. I'm very pleased with these and highly recommend them.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything I Expected

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II SDSSDXP-120G-G25 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I researched SSDs for weeks before taking the plunge on this one. It seems to me that longevity is an issue so we shall see if this holds up like i expect, which is that the nCache system will provide both improved performance and keeping the MLC nand from failing. I'm using this as an OS/Application drive. 111 gb formatted is enough for me. I had to install windows several times and i haven't had any issues with the drive. Gotta like a 5 year warranty on a brand new archetecture.

Cons: none so far.

When i ordered this i was under the impression from some reviews that the nCache was SLC, but apparently that is not true. I think a hybrid SLC/MLC drive would be great. Let's hope that the tweak they did to th MLC cache keeps it working long term, since i plan on leaving my page file here.

Other Thoughts: doesn't come with a converter.

I put this in an old LGA 775 box with SATA2 and it blows away my WD caviar black. SSD is still the wild west and you have to hope you don't get a bad one, but i say take the risk and go for it, and don't worry too much since by the time they fail they will probably be more affordable.
