5 out of 5 eggsEverything I Expected

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDXP-120G-G25

Pros: I researched SSDs for weeks before taking the plunge on this one. It seems to me that longevity is an issue so we shall see if this holds up like i expect, which is that the nCache system will provide both improved performance and keeping the MLC nand from failing. I'm using this as an OS/Application drive. 111 gb formatted is enough for me. I had to install windows several times and i haven't had any issues with the drive. Gotta like a 5 year warranty on a brand new archetecture.

Cons: none so far.

When i ordered this i was under the impression from some reviews that the nCache was SLC, but apparently that is not true. I think a hybrid SLC/MLC drive would be great. Let's hope that the tweak they did to th MLC cache keeps it working long term, since i plan on leaving my page file here.

Other Thoughts: doesn't come with a converter.

I put this in an old LGA 775 box with SATA2 and it blows away my WD caviar black. SSD is still the wild west and you have to hope you don't get a bad one, but i say take the risk and go for it, and don't worry too much since by the time they fail they will probably be more affordable.

Update: almost 3 years later and still going.

1 out of 5 eggsFAIL

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDXP-120G-G25

Pros: Worked perfectly till it failed with a lot of data on it

Cons: Failed after about eight months

Other Thoughts: sure didn't expect the failure from SanDisk.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsReview Update

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDXP-120G-G25

Pros: Still great bank for the buck!

Cons: I also wasn't saturating SATA III on my desktop and needed more storage so I put this in a laptop which has SATA II.

Other Thoughts: So my previous review was using the drive with my ASUS Z97-A with great results. My one beef was I bought too few gigabytes and although far from slow, it didn't saturate my SATA III. So I actually bought a lfaster / larger capacity drive for my desktop and placed this in my wife's painfully slow Core 2 Duo laptop which is used for basic web browsing or word processing. With the original drive I was barely getting 40Mb/s. With this drive I was able to get 250Mb/s and really bring that laptop back to life. Although any SSD is better than a standard drive, this SSD fits the bill for a laptop that can't utilize the speed that a Samsung or similar drive would offer. Again, I am VERY pleased with this drive, but found it was better suited for the laptop in my situation.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks, and is cheap

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDXP-120G-G25

Pros: Fast, reliable, has SanDisk software available as a separate download from SanDisk website to monitor and optimize the drive. I'm getting the new 850 pro myself but, for the money, this is a great buy!

Cons: 128 gig is prob too small for today's operations.

Other Thoughts: Have one game (Swtor) and some applications and software with now at around 90gb... fills up quickly. You want as much on your SSD as possible for fast retrieval so get an appropriately sized drive for your application. For a 14 year old girl, this is ok since she can put ALL her fave 5 Seconds of Summer pics and songs on her (MY!) old 250 GB HDD. Ugh and Yuk! I try to tell her how disgusting young men are... lol. GL with the SSD!

3 out of 5 eggsSlow compared to other SSD's

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDXP-120G-G25

Pros: Cheap, faster than a HDD

Cons: Fastest benchmarks i have got with this guy 333 mb/s write and 546 mb/s read. The speeds are pretty spot on from the spec sheet however slower than other SSD's Similarly priced (Actually for $2 more) Corsair Force LS SSD get 535 write and 560 read. worth the 2 bucks.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsPleasantly Surprised

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDXP-120G-G25

Pros: Extremely fast. Just did my first computer build, and based on research and suggestion from a friend, set up system to use SSD drive for boot drive. Absolutely blown away with boot speed, speed with which programs opened, and shutdown speed. Could never go back.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you've never used an SSD drive as your boot drive, try it!!! You'll never go back to a regular hard drive (other than for storage). This drive boots my i5 Windows 7 system in about 15 seconds. MS Office applications open in about 2 seconds, and iTunes in about 3 seconds. Unbelievable speed.

1 out of 5 eggsSomebody Liked This

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDXP-120G-G25

Pros: It was cheap but I have picked up rocks for free which are more useful.

Cons: Doesn't work! Doesn't exist according to the SanDisk website. When the SanDisk Extreme II 120g SSD is connected to to my ASUS Z97-P motherboard it locks up all SATA devices (it does not matter which SATA port). With it out of the system, everything works like it should. It did come up a couple of times but quickly locked up while trying to install Windows 8! Trying to find a way to get some support but so far it is a useless endeavor. I don't know who gave it good reviews but check out the SanDisk website, the Extreme II does not exist according to them and that is the support they give it. Had it too long to send back to Newegg.

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme II 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDXP-120G-G25

Pros: Easy to install, and the increased speed of boot up is outrageous. Cannot believe the difference.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Can't wait until they offer higher G's for a better price.
