5 out of 5 eggsI have two!

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I have these in a HP 17" lap top, and a recent desk top I built this Jan with a 6 core AMD on a Gigabyte MB.
I've had no problems, the drives are extremely fast compared to the WD black 7200 drives I removed.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I didn't purchase these from Newegg, but though I'd provide a review of my experiences

1 out of 5 eggsLasted less than less than a month

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: When I first installed it it was impressively fast.

Cons: After about a month of ownership, it started crapping out. If I turn my computer off and then back on, windows will refuse to start due to a 0xc000000e Boot Error until I change the port this thing is plugged in to (doesn't matter which port, so long as I change it). I'm trying to update the firmware but the software won't even acknowledge that I have a Sandisk SSD.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone based on my experience.

2 out of 5 eggsVery querky

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very difficult to wrangle an image of my old drive to this SSD. Almost gave up and returned it.

Cons: Not that much faster than my crucial M4.

Other Thoughts: Challenged my Acronis software eventually had to purchase upgraded version.

1 out of 5 eggsNot bootable

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I should have done my homework a little better as in googling "Sandisk extreme pro does not boot"

Cons: Spent hours trying to get it to work. must have installed windows 7 times before I spent 6 hours reading up. Most users believe thre will be a firmware fix but no mention of a problem by Sandisk

2 out of 5 eggsfailed after 7 months

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: fast SSD, worked well for about 6 months.

Cons: Corrupted OS traced to 8 bad sectors on my 480gb sandisk extreme pro drive. Reinstalled my OS, which avoided those bad sectors. Weeks later, OS is corrupted again, now 24 bad sectors. Reinstalled my OS on crucial mx drive, no more problems. The Sandisk SSD software says my drive still passes, and hard disk sentinel states 24 bad sectors not enough for RMA (sentinel reads smart drive info). Chance of me using a drive that has corrupted my OS twice = zero. Also not going to have my system down for weeks on an RMA that is likely not to happen anyways. And not sure I would use the replacement drive in my system, until sandisk has a longer track record with SSD's.

Other Thoughts: I will be sticking to intel and crucial SSDs for the near future, ones that have a proven track record of 1% or less rma/failure rates. I have 7 SSD's in 2 builds, some over 5 years old, this is only SSD to fail (by my standards, even if not by sandisk standards). I will still buy performance, but only within known reliable brands.

I am just glad newegg's rush 1 day shipping is fast...ordered crucial SSD in evening eastern time, had it by noon next day.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsFailed within days

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 10 years warranty? If one keeps sending it back.

Cons: Failed as if nothing else. It was likely defective from the get go.

Other Thoughts: Dec 2014, much excited, finally able to try it a month after buying it. Initially had some system glitches I assumed to be the computer. However, at some point, the SSD failed right before 27 Nov, US thanksgiving weekend, during a final paper. I lost three days having to write it on a laptop instead. It was the SSD as was partially able to extract Windows7 filed from it, connected to an old P4 with Windows XP (talk about security.)

What is poor about this experience is not the poor SAN writing and SSD failure, but the time I have been waiting for a replacement. Today, 27 January, just received an email confirming my SSD was received and will be processed. It was actually received 1.5- 2 months ago, but a recent call to Sandisk triggered their reply.

At this point over 9 weeks NO SSD- and am relying on a Dell one.. Top it all, dropped 50% since I first ordered it..

What is insidious about its failure is that the freezes are hard to ID as writing/SSD versus RAM or other issues. I thought it more clearcut. For such a hyped item, I regret not going Samsung. Samsung and Toshiba have less than 0.0003% failures in their SSDs, as confirmed by Apple's warranty/repairs budget vs million of shipped or in existence units.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

My name is Rocky from SanDisk support. I am sorry to learn about your experience. Usually replacements are shipped out within 7-10 business days after we receive the defective product. The delay as in your case is highly unusual and I apologize for the inconveniences caused.

I would suggest you to please contact SanDisk again so we can check the status for your replacement and get the product delivered as soon as possible.

Thank you,
SanDisk Support.

5 out of 5 eggsIf there's a word for faster than fast, this deserves it.

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: On Windows 8.1 after POST, I'm at my desktop with everything loaded and ready to go in under 5 seconds.

Although installing an OS and everything else that comes with being a boot drive and main drive there's not much room for games, what games you can install, I've noted quiet a noticeable decrease in boot and load times, even more of a difference than I noticed from first using my other SSD.

Cons: Really none to mention.

Only thing even close to being negative to say is a fault all SSDs share. They loose speed the closer the drive comes to being full, while also lessening their lifespan. Towing the line of maximum space to use while still retaining max speed and life is your goal. This drive just seems to hit that line and speed dropoff a little sooner than the other SSD I own for reference. Meaning less space to actual use on the drive and retain maximum speeds and life. Your mileage may vary.

Other Thoughts: After formatting, disk space is 223 GB. I know most people know you don't get the full space the drive is actually advertised as, but for those that may think you got the wrong and/or bad SSD, that's just the amount of usable space you end up with.

If you search around looking for drives with the highest benchmarking scores or fastest read/write times. People that post insane read/write numbers have their SSDs set up in RAID 0. Which for gaming or the vast majority of normal PC operation does nothing aside make benchmark scores inflated, and actually hurts real-world performance. So if using more than one of these, unless you're running a workstation frequently moving large files, don't use RAID, unless you just want to post big numbers that mean nothing online.

5 out of 5 eggsNo encryption is a plus.

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: My Windows 8.1 desktop PC boots VERY quickly with this drive, paired with a GIGABYTE GA-H97M-D3H motherboard and Xeon E3-1230V3. Lack of hardware encryption is a plus in my book because the drive is faster because of it, and has one less feature which could fail over time. For use in a laptop, encryption would obviously be more important as those are stolen more.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: The other drive I was looking at was the Samsung 850 Pro. I almost got it because it uses the new 3-D Vertical NANDs which are advertised to last longer. But brand new technology could also be a con, because those drives haven't been around long enough to see if they have any issues compared to conventional SSDs. So for me the SanDisk was a safer bet. Only time will tell if I got a reliable drive, but the 10-year warranty indicates SanDisk must be confident in its reliability.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 1. Fast
2. Fast
3. Fast
4. Consistent Performance
5. Warranty

However, the difference in speed between various top SSDs are negligible in real world usage. Also, I haven't had this drive long enough to determine if they are as consistent as advertised (I'm relying solely on SanDisk's info here). Lastly, the warranty is only useful if you plan on keeping your drives for 10 years. I do keep drives for that long, but most people don't.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these drives and they are in a RAID 0 configuration.
Intel RST drivers *dramatically* increased the performance of these drives over the standard Win 8.1 drivers. (confirmed with 2 different SSD benchmarking suites)
