5 out of 5 eggsSanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I picked this up along with a Crucial MX200 SSD. Since this is one out of two SSD's on the market with a 10 year warranty, it will be my boot (C:) drive. Easy to clone see "other thoughts" Windows 7 ultimate with all the 3rd party drivers, I still boot up in around 20-25 seconds not including password screen. My SSD's are the only max rating on Windows experence ratings 7.9 out of 7.9 everything else is 7.8.

Cons: nothing at all

Other Thoughts: first off this is for a Clone of my C: Drive (Boot) on a Desktop with no empty SATA 's available. I'll be using Acronis software. Since I have it already installed. ( make sure you don't have more space used on old drive then what the new one has. If you do you will need to xfer some files/folders/programs first. Also give some room for any hidden OS partition.) So using Acronis, first make a Acronis boot-able media disc. Second, make a C: drive back-up using Acronis True Image. Third, Validate the C drive back-up by opening Acronis true image and viewing your back up list. right click on the back up you just made and select, Validate. After it finishes you will need to reboot. Fourth, Put the Acronis boot able media disc into your player, Fifth, shut down and remove your C: Drive, Install the new SSD. When starting up your computer, you will need to boot from optical drive. At BIO's screen, (if avail. F-12 to pick "boot from"and select your optical drive, or) you must enter BIO's to select boot from CD/DVD/BD. Once the reboot starts pick Boot with Acronis boot able media disc. Recover/Clone to your new SSD and pick automatic to have Acronis do all the figuring for any size differences for partitions and such.. Which will make everything work without having to doing anything else. Then your done. (Take out the CD and during reboot revert to boot from Hard Drive) Reboot to test OS xfer. The original C drive will not have changed in any way so if something goes wrong ( power outage. etc.)You still have your original C drive as it was before starting.

3 out of 5 eggsHopefully an isolated incident, unreliable.

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Impressive specification at the price point, not TLC. Noticeably faster than previous generation SSDs. 10-year warranty. Good to see a company that stands behind the product.

Cons: Unreliable writes; it acted OK to install Windows 10, but then it BSOD's on BOOT_DEVICE_NOT_FOUND or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL when I copy a large file or restore a SQL server database. Could the firmware be glitchy still? Also, 1/3 of the time it fails to boot, kicking it into endless Automatic Repair, Chkdsk hang, Automatic repair, ......

Other Thoughts: It appears I am not the only one experiencing stability issues with this SSD from the looks of this forum, while many others are apparently happy with it. I put back the old HDD and all is fine.

5 out of 5 eggsSandisk Extreme Pro SSD

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This is my 4th Sandisk SSD, first Extreme Pro, the other were Pro. Never a problem with a single one, some now 2 years old.
For this drive, the connected hardware was a Gigabyte Z77X motherboard, Core I7 Ivybridge, Windows 8.1, migrations from a 1TB WD HDD.
Procedure: Downloaded Sandisk Dashboard, watched the video slideshow on use of the software and installed the software. Next, connected the SSD to an external USB 3 connection and verified the drive working properly by use of the dashboard software.
Next, I downloaded and installed the free Apricorn EZ Gig IV Sandisk promo cloning software and installed on to my PC.
Next, I ran the cloning software which reduced my 931GB partiton automatically to fit my new SSD (note, the free HDD must be using less space than the size of the SSD or you need to copy files to another disk so automatic partition size reduction can proceed).
After cloning was successful, I shut down my PC, removed my HDD boot disk and connected the Sandisk SSD to the lowest numbered SATA III port in my system. I booted into the BIOS and confirmed that the SSD was recognized and also listed as my first boot device. Then I booted my PC. A couple of seconds later, Windows was up and running with no problems or errors.

I re-ran the Sandisk SSD dashboard to double check the drive, including running the short smart check.

All was well and boot times are about 10 secs or less.
I think if you follow this kind of procedure, you will be fine and there should be no real reasons for fresh installs, etc. as windows on modern hardware will install the necessary drivers for this drive.

Cons: Hand to find tiny little screws to secure drive, it would be nice if screws came with package.

Other Thoughts: This is currently the top level SSD performance wise on the market. The 10 year warranty is nice, but I would rather see a price reduction and a 5 year warranty because I have no idea of what operating system I will use in 10 years and if SATA III or desktop will even exist in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeed to spare

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Tough to go wrong with 100k I/Ops.

Cons: Nothing as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Have two of these in RAID 0 with 32k stripe. As to be expected, very small files aren't read at top speed but 8k-16k is in the 550-800 MB/s range, .9-1.25 GB/s kicks in after that.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast boots. Takes longer to get past the post screen than it does to go from login to OS (about 5 seconds). Good size, easily holds the OS and programs. I keep data files on a separate hard drive. Flawless install.

Cons: Such a small drive doesn't fit securely in my case even with an adapter, but that's not the SSD's fault. One star off only because It's expensive compared to other drives of the same size, but I bought it due to the supposed superior reliability and warranty.

Other Thoughts: This is my first SSD, so I don't have any point of comparison except to standard hard drives. So take my conceptions of speed with a grain of salt.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast and reliable

Cons: none yet.

Other Thoughts: I had a SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB drive previously which worked flawlessly, but I needed a bigger drive for what I do. From experience, I knew SanDisk would continue to be the drive I depend and rely upon.

This 480GB drive has plenty of space and the price is great. It's a lot faster than the previous 128GB drive too. I just got done running all my optimization tasks this morning, so I expect this drive to last for many years.

1 out of 5 eggsOops got a dud

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Highly rated drive on Tom's Hardware

Cons: Started with errors during install of Windows. Could not complete the install. Then disk would not register at all.

Other Thoughts: RMAed unit. Have high hopes that this is an isolated case. This is only my second SSD purchase but given the price of these things it makes an incident like this even harder to take.

5 out of 5 eggsTop SSD in 480GB range IMO

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 1- 10 yrs warranty! Worry free for 10 yrs is great in my book.
2- One of the fastest SSD in 500GB ranges...
3- Comes with a card inside to tell you where to download the SSD SanDisk Dashboard which will let you know if your SSD is up to date and lots of other infos

Cons: 1- No adaptor
2- Prices now days i guess

Other Thoughts: Bear in mind i got these on sale back in Nov Black Friday deal.. for like $250 :) And once i did a fresh install, it installs swiftly plus the usual restart on pc is amazing.. usually does 1 to 2 mins restarting but now it restart my pc in like 5 secs!

My PC:
Intel I7 3770K (overclocked to 4.7)
Asus P8Z77 WS
G.Skills 16GB 1600 Rams (4 X 4GB)
SanDisk Ext.Pro 480GB (OS Boot)
Seagate 2TB (Storages)
Adata 64GB (cached for storage HDD -> same way as i used to have with IRST, I used to have HDD as OS drive and small SSD for caching on my HDD - same as hybrid hard drive now days..)

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 2.5" 480GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 1. Inexpensive compared to the competition.
2. Basically the fastest SATA III SSD you can buy right now, and trades blows with the Samsung 850Pro in benchmarks.
3. SanDisk name and quality
4. 10 year warranty
5. Proven controller
6. Stable
7. Includes a spacer for 9mm Z height if you need it

Cons: NONE, and I mean NONE.

Other Thoughts: Why does Samsung think their 850Pro is worth $100 (or more) than this SanDIsk? I can tell you it is NOT. They bench pretty much the same, with the SanDisk actually faster in some benches and the 850Pro faster in others. A wash, basically.

With ATTO 2.47, on Windows 8.1, Intel Z97 based system using the Intel AHCI 1058 driver, this drive ramps in speed right at the 2K file size and then achieves maximum speed at the 64K file size with a sequential read of 562 MB/s and a sequential write of 529 MB/s. THAT IS FAST!

Also, the write consistency of this drive is still superior to the 850Pro (although Samsung improved write consistency pretty drastically compared to the 840Pro).
