No more hassles with that external card reader and its tangly cord! The AFT PRO-35U fits into a 3.5” drive bay on your desktop computer, and provides you an extra USB 2.0 port, right on the front.
This all-in-one reader reads CF, SD, MMC, SM, xD, and Sony MS media. Please see specifications section for a complete list of compatible media types. Included, interchangeable black and silver bezels ensure that the reader blends seamlessly into your computer case. Compatible with Windows XP and Vista, and Mac OS X and higher. Reading your flash media has never been so convenient!
Pros: - inside or ouside the case use - all black NOTE: in the pictures looks like some of the slots are white plastic. That is only a light reflection. They are black. The only white piece is the central prong in the USB connector. - can be used with only one cable, the one for the reader. - blue light goes whel on a HTPC - light goes off when computer is off or at sleep - light flashes when card is accessed - different icons on Explorer for easy idintification - not trying to be a USB hub/firewire/etc.
Cons: - LED light is very bright. This can be fixed easely taking the front cover off and applying some white nail color on the LED tip. You adjust the brightness using different tint or tickness. If you don't like it just wipe it off before it's fully dry or use some nail polish. Try again using another tint. I just used solid white, as translucent was not enough. - on Vista 64 you'll need to do some manual settings if you want the custom icons for the drives. See below for details.
Other Thoughts: The reader cable is the one that brings the LED on.
I use it external to my HTPC. Goes nicelly finish, blue LED, and size, fixed to the case with double sided tape. I use a Nippon Labs 3 ft black USB cable.
About Vista 64: When you connect the reader Vista will add it automatically for you and it is ready to use. The only missing thing are the custom icons for the new drives. Get teh drivers from AFT site. To install you must be logged on as an admin, run the setup as usual, install the driver even if it is not signed (Vista will prompt you about that). After all this you need to go in Control Panel\Device Manager find the reader under USB devices node, open properties, go to the driver tab, and if the driver is not Microsoft driver, use the rollback button to rollback the driver to the previous one (MS one). That's all.

Pros: Very well designed! Well worth the extra money! Comes with silver and black faceplates.
Driver software is excellent. Be aware that even without a card plugged in to a slot, that slot still shows up as a device in My Computer. Driver adds helpful pictures and greys out empty drives so you know what's plugged in and what isn't.
Cons: Drivers are unsigned, and therefore I needed to do a little "coaxing" to get them to work with Vista 64. Product still works without drivers, but it is much more disorganized in your My Computer folder.
Other Thoughts: Uses 2 USB drives. Comes with external and internal cables.

Pros: Easy to hookup. Website has Icons for your "my computer" folder that take care of confusion over what drive letter is what. Works good with XP Home SP3.
Cons: Slightly wider then a floppy drive so it fits but doesn't just slip in. LED is bright, doesn't bother me, just confirming others comments.
Other Thoughts: You need to follow directions and hook up both cables if you want it all. Read included documents people even if you do already know it all.

Bright Blue LED

Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: That is one bright blue LED they installed on this thing. Build quality just feels more solid on this unit over the cadre of $20 cheaper units. Figure it will follow me on other builds and other cases as I consistently upgrade my two desktop PCs. Cheaper units might not live as long.
Cons: That is one bright blue LED they installed on this thing. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. No real cons once you get past how much you paid for this item.
Other Thoughts: That is one bright blue LED they installed on this thing. But, I keep my PCs in a back bedroom so this big blue LED acts as a sort of night light. Don;t need to turn on light to see if cat is sleeping in the room.

Pros: Its black and matches my case, didn't require much trouble to get it installed and working.
Cons: Has a stupid blue light that stays on all the time even when the computer is turned off! I don't really understand why manufacturers have such an obsession with blue LEDs. In fact the light is so annoying im considering opening the device and breaking the LED. Would have given 5 stars if not for the annoying LED issue.
