5 out of 5 eggsTop Tier Card Reader

Pros: Designed very well, high quality component. Another example of getting what you pay for. This is one of the highest priced card readers and as it states is designed for kiosks which receive continous and daily use. I bought it for that very reason and am not disappointed. In fact, I am very impressed with the reader. Color coding makes it idiot prooof, and it is also well marked. I am so impressed that this is now my go-to reader for all my builds. If you want the best - here it is.

Cons: As noted in other reviews, rather than identifying itself as one drive (D:, E:, F: etc...) this lists each reader as its own drive - thus giving you E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M, ETC... which to some could be annoying. I am fine with that issue but did want to verify that indeed that is the case. I have not tried but there may be a way around that.

3 out of 5 eggsvery disapointed

Pros: it works..

Cons: it does give a big list of removable devices

Other Thoughts: I paid extra $$ for this because it had the micro SD slot AND because it wasn't supposed to add all the extra drive letters..Unfortunatly, it DOES add the drive letters. I had to go into device properties, and disable the ones I don't use. What disapoints me is that I paid for a feature I didn't get..

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works as advertised. The metal protector plate in the CF slot in an ingenious idea. My other, less computer savvy family members like the color coded slots.

Individual drives are set as hidden until media in plugged into one of them.

Cons: If one has hidden files and folders shown then all drives are visible in (My) Computer. This really isn't a con so much and just a fact and limitation of Windows.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. Yes, this card reader is more expensive than the competition, but that buys you superior build quality.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, plug and play

Pros: I purchased this because it also has a USB 2.0 port on the front. My last card reader worked great, but when I installed this one I noticed a big difference in performance. This card reader reads and writes a LOT faster. It also reads MicroSD without an adapter. You can't go wrong with this card reader.

Cons: None.

Some might argue price, but it's worth it with the design, pass through USB, and MicroSD reader.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Perfect for all my media and memory cards

Cons: If you don't a floppy disc slot you may have to buy this BYTECC Bracket-525 3.5" Drive/Device Transfer Bracket For 5.25" Drive Bay
Which is not bad in price..

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT

Pros: For some reason many card readers do not read cards past 8gb or some other kind of limitation. This does not have those issues. It read my 32gb HCSD card without problems. I can put a XD card at teh same time and swap images across one antoher.

Another nice feature? You do not see the drive on my computer until you add a card in to the reader. Lots of readers would put all sorts of drive letter which is really annoyitn. This reader does not do that. Only display the drive when a card is inserted.

Cons: Price, and it should come with a drive adaptor. The newer afts have been made in the 5.25 form factor.

But this pc has an old case so an adaptor was not needed.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the money and then some!

Pros: Had externals and a different internal that had problems out of the box. 1st impression, was good solid construction the ports on the front are well lined up and good quality, the cable is first rate.
Installation was absolutely no problem. (don't know what happened to the guy that blew up his machine except maybe he had it plugged into the wrong place or something such) WinXP came up and loaded drivers and recognized the device no problem.
Tested a CF card, SD, SDHC, and MicroSD type cards. They are all a snug positive fit into the slots. The reader recognizes and accesses them faster than I have ever seen. The window on screen is usually up already as I turn to look after plugging in the card. Also the CF port has a thin metal door in it. This is locked closed unless a CF card is inserted so you shouldn't be able to accidentaly put anything into that port and damage the pins. Have not d/l or installed the driver from Atech yet but expect no problems there.

Cons: This might be considered a negative, but really isn't;
The CF card is a little fiddly to plug into the slot. It is really designed that way. The card is rather large and the slot has a VERY POSITIVE alignment setup that makes it a little twitchy to start in the slot. DON'T FORCE IT! When it is lined up it slides in quite nicely making sure to have positive alignment with the pins.

Other Thoughts: I was tired of using external dongles to download my photos. Have CF cards and SDHC cards for my current cameras. Also have MicroSD cards from my phone. This unit works very nicely.
Considered buying the all black version that has the plastic case and can be used as an external. This one had the 3 year warranty available. (Probably won't even need it) The colored outlines are actually a big plus for plugging in the cards. Especially since the slots are kind of hidden in the black front panel.
This was installed in a 9 year old machine with a SOYO P4x400 Dragon Ultra motherboard. Been a hugely reliable machine and it just keeps on going. Glad I paid the extra for this item, it was quite worth it.

One last thing, worked in electronics for years, looked up the pin outs for USB. Pin1 is +5V, 2 is Data+, 3 is Data-, and 4 is ground. There is no way a 5V short should cause an instant smoke cloud and blow up a motherboard. It's "possible" but very unlikely. Just to set fears to r

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, durable card reader

Pros: -Sleek, black bezel looks great in my piano black PC tower
-Seems solid and well built
-Color coded slots makes it easy to quickly find the right slot
-Has a convenient micro SD slot
-Love the bright blue LED
-Long cable for easy installation in large cases
-Has a USB 2.0 port

Cons: -USB port is tight. Don't want to push or pull a flash drive to hard.

-You have to go to 'My Computer' and right click on the slot with the card or the USB port and "Eject" it. Otherwise you won't be able to use the reader until you reboot.

-All ports are listed in 'My Computer' even those without a card in them

Other Thoughts: *It has only been three months. Seems to be running fine, hopefully it last a long time. You get a solid card reader for a reasonable price.
