Photo Kiosks are getting more and more popular due to the high growth of digital photography. As a result of this, kiosks in high commercial or industrial usages require their components to be much more durable due to the increase in wear and tear.

Atech Flash Technology (AFT), one of the fastest growing digital card reader manufacturers has addressed this issue and is offering a durable and reliable digital media reader. The XM-35U has all the functions of a multi-card reader, but its main strength is its durability.

Utilizing the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, it is the best solution for performance, reliability and value. 5 out of 5 eggsNo issues

Pros: Looks good in system, easy to install and use, labels help, no issues at all.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have had other products fail or have one reader fail. So far everything I have plugged in has worked. I think it is a great value for the price.

2 out of 5 eggsWhen it works it works, when it doesn't...

Pros: When the card reader was functioning, it worked well.

Cons: The reader didn't last very long. I'm going to be honest I only got the card reader for the SD slot. I bought it several months ago and it worked fine for a few months than the SD slot died. I went ahead and did an RMA to get it replaced. When it got here it worked once. That's right, I used it once before it died on me. The USB still works, but the SD slot just doesn't seem to last very long at all. I don't actually know whether the other slots work and frankly, I don't care. The fact that the SD slot is unreliable and fails very quickly is frustrating.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine. WIN 8.1 compatible

Pros: Solid, well built. Works fine and

Cons: drivers on website a little confusing

Other Thoughts: I thought that I had to install drivers and got a message that they were not WIN 8.1 compatible. However, this card reader works fine without the drivers. Slots will only show up on My Computer when slot is occupied or if you go to Folder Options-View and check Show Hidden Drives. This card reader comes in three colors but they are all functionally the same.

5 out of 5 eggsLives up to expectations

Pros: I bought this card reader because of it's claim of being suited for heavy duty use in kiosks, and because of its clean, no-nonsense look. And it has proven to be durable, and just works. The speeds are pretty fast, too, but I don't remember the exact numbers now. The cards fit nicely, and it has a good feel. Highly recommended. I used the default drivers, and it's been fine.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: This card reader works great and looks great. Once the drivers from the AFT website are downloaded the drive icons match the colors on the faceplate.

Cons: If you don't have a space for a floppy drive you will need to buy an adapter to make the drive fit in the larger slots.

5 out of 5 eggsBest microSD Card Reader I've used

Pros: microSD cards slide in easily and make positive contact every time; same with the SD reader slot.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've been using this card reader for two and a half years. I've used it in two different PC builds without any trouble at all. I'm in my mid 50's, so the color coded card slots help me know which slot to use without putting my glasses on. I've have some cheaper card readers in some of my PC's that sometimes don't read the memory card inserted into them the first time. I have to pull them out then reinsert a few times until it finally works, if at all. I was hoping to get a better quality reader by spending a little extra when I bought the AFT XM-35U. It's been worth every penny I spent on it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood construction

Pros: Works with Linux with no problem. I like that the card slots are machined well and you get a positive card insertion. Other readers I've had were a bit sloppy, you had to be careful to insert cards.

Overall good design.

Cons: None that I can think of.

1 out of 5 eggsCard not detected after 5-months use

Pros: - Easy installation.
- Multi-colored faceplate.

Cons: - Does not last for long.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a reliable SD card reader to be able to perform computer backups. Problems started after having used this reader for 5 months. Now, the reader rarely realizes that a card is inserted. Eventually, the card gets detected after re-inserting it several times. This problem occurs with the two cards in my backup set. I blew compressed air onto the reader’s connections to clean out any dust. No effect. I tried the cards in another reader and had no problems.

I have no prior experience with SD cards. But I noticed fine scratches on the connector pads. Perhaps the reader is scratching the pads to the point of causing poor electrical contact.

5 out of 5 eggsTop Tier Card Reader

Pros: Designed very well, high quality component. Another example of getting what you pay for. This is one of the highest priced card readers and as it states is designed for kiosks which receive continous and daily use. I bought it for that very reason and am not disappointed. In fact, I am very impressed with the reader. Color coding makes it idiot prooof, and it is also well marked. I am so impressed that this is now my go-to reader for all my builds. If you want the best - here it is.

Cons: As noted in other reviews, rather than identifying itself as one drive (D:, E:, F: etc...) this lists each reader as its own drive - thus giving you E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M, ETC... which to some could be annoying. I am fine with that issue but did want to verify that indeed that is the case. I have not tried but there may be a way around that.
