5 out of 5 eggsBEST OUT THERE

Pros: I have both of them the XM-37U and the PRO-57U I am running as my back up machine an ASUS A88X PRO (MB) and the A10 7850K (APU)
I flashed the bios to the latest and greatest and the one before this last one lasted only a couple of weeks and I couldn't figure out why suddenly the AFT XM-37U suddenly showed as on in the bios as it showed all the ports however it showed a yellow caution sign in "Device Manager" and no matter what I did it wouldn't stop showing the problem indicator. However the next bios flash CORRECTED THE PROBLEM
I have never had a problem with either of them and consider this the best CARD READERS out there because they are self powered via duel USB 3 hook up. and they have USB 3 showing on the face for a direct USB 3 hook up. I have USB 3 on board and routed to the top front of my V9 case but this gives an extra not to mention all the ports for all the cards. I love the 20 pin USB 3 (I have a 20 pin USB 3 HEADER on the mother board) so it doesn't take up a USB 3 on the rear of the computer or actually 2 of them because if you don't have a 20pin USB 3 inside on the mother board you'll either have to get a card to provide (PCI or PCI-E) to create the required two USB 3 inputs to plug the USB hook up cable to. Mine had a breakout in that the USB 3 20 pin connector was a separate connector that plugged into the motherboard then the straight forward USB 3 plugs plugged into it. I hope that helps. I will post this to the other one as well the XM-37U I have had them since 10SEP12 and they have never had a hick up except the 37 with the bios

Cons: OTHER THAN BIOS ISSUE IN PROS NONE
EXCEPT THEY DISCONTINUED THE PRO-57U

Other Thoughts: STILL the best one going

5 out of 5 eggsLove It!

Pros: I really like that this USB 3.0 Card Reader fits into a 5.25" drive bay, as with my previous computer build, I found it quite difficult to get a 3.5" one to stay in place. I really like the data transfer speeds over USB 2.0 as well.

Cons: Not this product's fault but I wish that motherboard manufacturers would start making them with more internal USB 3.0 headers.

Other Thoughts: none

1 out of 5 eggsjunk

Pros: usb 3.0 connection sort of works with semi decent speeds, nothing exciting though

Cons: corrupts cards regularly 9/10 times, support team slow to respond, wants me to pay to ship their defective item back to them, i rather spend the money on another product - this is the professional series so i can only imagine what the "consumer series" is capable of :/

3 out of 5 eggsUSB problem solved

Pros: Solid, well built seems to work ok...except...

Cons: ...under Windows 8 (and 8.1) the drives show up as lettered drives(5 of them), but when I first installed the unit they randomly, often, disconnected and reconnected. I tried several things then I looked here and took Mike B's advice "please try to disable the USB selective suspend setting under the Advanced settings of Power Options." Changing this setting fixed it.

1 out of 5 eggsKILLS SD CARDS

Pros: Holds cards securely/firmly/etc. USB 3.0

Cons: Kills cards. Killed a SD card and a Micro SD card. They way it accesses the data corrupts something and renders the card inaccessible. Thankfully I found this software called ZAR recovery and was able to get my data back.

Other Thoughts: I read another similar review like mine. I too am looking for a replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsAFT PRO 57u Problem resolved

Pros: Device is well built and is fast. It was easy to install. I have purchased at least 3 different brands of these readers over the last 11 years. This is the best built of the group. If you purchase and install you must also download the newest driver from the their website. www.atechflash.com
Atech Flash Technology, Inc.

Cons: I had a problem with the device connecting and disconnecting every few minutes. I tried all the solutions I knew and researched online. Uninstalled and reinstalled but nothing worked. I finally just stopped the device in device manager (windows 7 pro) and was about to replace it when I saw a review here which recommended contacting customer service at Atech. Best customer service I have received on line, I got a response within one hour and you can try this if you are having the connect/disconnect problem that I was having. From the tech at Atech:

"Can you try the new firmware (0575) from the link below. After you have downloaded and un-zipped the file into a folder, please double-click on the “FWUpgradetool.exe” in the same folder to start the FW update process. Also, please try to disable the "USB selective suspend setting" under the Advanced settings of Power Options."

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47929092/PRO-57U%20Read-Write%20%280575%29.zip

Hope this helps.

Other Thoughts: I did not take any stars off for the issue because of the quick help from the Atech rep. So far the problem of the disconnect and reconnect issue is gone, and good riddance too!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks very well

Pros: Reads al my memory cards. Activity light on the front panel is a big plus as is the extra USB 3.0 port. Fit into the drive bay is tight and secure. Color is a little off from my case but the color matches the Pioneer Blu ray drive so it is no big deal.

Cons: Took a week to resolve the problem with the card going in and out of service. I was only able to work on the problem in small time increments. I might have deducted an egg but the tech support from AFT was fast, amazing , and fixed the problem. BTW I run Win 7 PRO in the PC.

Other Thoughts: I was getting ready to return the card but took a shot at AFT tech support. Called the tech support number and was asked to leave a voice mail. Took the other option and sent man email. I had a response back from Jackson within 5 minutes with the solution.

5 out of 5 eggsExtra USB3.0 ports and Card Reader

Pros: I needed additional USB3.0 ports and a card reader for a new computer build. This unit works well for this purpose. The construction is sturdy and the USB cable plugs are compatible with either USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 motherboard headers. All functions of the unit are supported by 2 cables and 2 motherboard headers, so you will need 2 available motherboard headers to make full use of this unit.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: My build components are as follows: Antec Gaming Series One black steel case, GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H motherboard, Intel Core i7-4771 Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 processor, Dynatron K17 92mm CPU cooler, Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit, COUGAR A760 model CGR B3-760 760W power supply, CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR memory, LG Black Blu-ray Burner model WH14NS40, LG Black Blu-ray ROM model UH12NS30, AFT PRO-57U USB 3.0 ports and card reader, ASUS Xonar Essence ST PCI Audio Card, Crucial M500 240GB SATA 2.5" 7mm SSD, Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB HDD, Western Digital WD Black WD2002FAEX 2TB, old/recycled HDDs: WD 320 GB WD3200AAJB and Seagate 200 GB ST3200822A, StarTech 1 Port PCIe IDE Controller card (for old recycled IDE hard drives), StarTech PEX1394B3LP PCIe IEEE1394 card, U.S. Robotics USR5638 V.92 PCIe Fax modem.
