5 out of 5 eggsBEST OUT THERE

Pros: I have both of them the XM-37U and the PRO-57U I am running as my back up machine an ASUS A88X PRO (MB) and the A10 7850K (APU)
I flashed the bios to the latest and greatest and the one before this last one lasted only a couple of weeks and I couldn't figure out why suddenly the AFT XM-37U suddenly showed as on in the bios as it showed all the ports however it showed a yellow caution sign in "Device Manager" and no matter what I did it wouldn't stop showing the problem indicator. However the next bios flash CORRECTED THE PROBLEM
I have never had a problem with either of them and consider this the best CARD READERS out there because they are self powered via duel USB 3 hook up. and they have USB 3 showing on the face for a direct USB 3 hook up. I have USB 3 on board and routed to the top front of my V9 case but this gives an extra not to mention all the ports for all the cards. I love the 20 pin USB 3 (I have a 20 pin USB 3 HEADER on the mother board) so it doesn't take up a USB 3 on the rear of the computer or actually 2 of them because if you don't have a 20pin USB 3 inside on the mother board you'll either have to get a card to provide (PCI or PCI-E) to create the required two USB 3 inputs to plug the USB hook up cable to. Mine had a breakout in that the USB 3 20 pin connector was a separate connector that plugged into the motherboard then the straight forward USB 3 plugs plugged into it. I hope that helps. I will post this to the other one as well the XM-37U I have had them since 10SEP12 and they have never had a hick up except the 37 with the bios

Cons: I had a slight bios mishap referred to in the body of pros.
No clue why they discontinued the PRO-57U
odd since they are both the same
and who has or what case has a 3.5" floppy bay any more thankfully mine V9 did/does

Other Thoughts: drive bays very handy still for input and output

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: designed to have usb 3.0 inside and out. solid construction.

Cons: simply was not compatible with my motherboard or it was a defective unit. it was recognized in bios and windows 7 but took caused my system to hang/take forever to turn on. took at least 1 min for my CF card to be recognized. was not able to open any image fiiles (granted these were large 30-40MB RAW image files) as my system froze.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat and versatile

Pros: Extremely versatile. SDXC support and no adapter needed for Micro-SD(HC/XC). Multiple card-reading at once. Excellent internal/external design.

Cons: USB 3.0 pass through does not work from MB USB 3.0 header.

5 out of 5 eggsBlazing Fast

Pros: I've been burned by other "USB 3" readers in the past, so I didn't have high hopes with this one. My main reason for getting this model was the depth of the Compact Flash slot - I've bent more then a few pins in the past on other readers.

After installing, I ran a few image file copies off of my UDMA 7 Compact Flash card and averaged a sustained 125MB per second transfer rate.

Cons: It's difficult to get the CF card to align correctly to slide in.

2 out of 5 eggsBad cable design

Pros: Reader reads all types of cards. Compact flash pins cannot be bent

Cons: The cable was not compatible with a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard. After bending one of the USB 3.0 header pins and breaking it, I cut off the side molding on the cable and got it to fit. However, now the USB 3.0 port on the card reader doesn't work because of the missing pin.

1 out of 5 eggsNew cable design - not compatible with most motherboards

Pros: Unknown. I was unable to get these to work with my system. Perhaps if they'd included in the description the type of cable they require, I'd be able to leave some pros.

Cons: I bought these as a replacement for XM-35U card readers when they went out of stock. The XM-37U includes a different cable, however, and is only compatible with motherboards that have specific USB 3.0 headers. Thus rendering them incompatible with most of the motherboards out there.

Other Thoughts: Check your motherboard header. These readers require a large, 20 pin connector.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Read everything I've tried.

USB 3.0

Has disconnectable USB B connectors on back and is an enclosed chassis so it works nicely either internal or external if desired.

Cons: Little pricey compared to the other available USB 3.0 Readers

Plastic chassis - (a con in my opinion)

Other Thoughts: Should be metal chassis not plastic for two reasons:

1) it is specifically advertised as a Kiosk grade reader
2)it's priced higher than most others that are actually made of metal

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great.. when it works.

Pros: Was easy to install and cable up, no software needed for normal usage, fits an old floppy bay perfectly. Media is limiting factor for speed.

Works great, when it works...

Cons: Doesn't come with a 5.25" bay adapter, which I'd expect for this (high) price.

Seems to have an issue staying connected. I'll be playing a game or listening to music when I hear the familiar windows device disconnected/connected bong sounds. Took me a while to figure out what was causing this until I happened to notice one day that the empty drives went missing from explorer, then came back in time with the bongs. I've owned the XM-37U for almost 3 months now so I suspect returning it would be a lot more trouble than it's worth, so I wouldn't recommend buying this card reader.

3 out of 5 eggsProblematic connection

Pros: fast transfers when it works

Cons: regularly looses connection regularly. I have to physically disconnect the connectors from the internal usb port and reconnect to have it recognized.

5 out of 5 eggsLooks great, works great!

Pros: CRAZY fast, color-coded on the outside, nice bright blue LED matches the rest of my case LEDs, pin-protected CF slot with lots of lead-in, has micro SD slot (my last one didn't), USB 3.0 port on the face

Cons: I wish it made my CF cards smell like bacon.

Other Thoughts: I bought this specifically because the cheap readers out there have nearly no lead-in on the CF slot. So I always end up bending pins and causing problems. This one, about half of the card is inside before the pins engage, plus there's a small flip-down metal door inside that covers the pins when there's no card inserted. Definitely good quality. Windows 7 64-bit picked this up no problem, but definitely do yourself a favor and get the software from the AFT site. Install it, and you get a pretty nifty set of icons in My Computer, showing you which slot is which drive. They're grey when theres no card inserted, and they turn blue when you put one in. Once you've dealt with the cheap card readers, you can really appreciate a nice one like this! Trust me, it's worth the money! And it's FAAAAAST!
