4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Read everything I've tried.

USB 3.0

Has disconnectable USB B connectors on back and is an enclosed chassis so it works nicely either internal or external if desired.

Cons: Little pricey compared to the other available USB 3.0 Readers

Plastic chassis - (a con in my opinion)

Other Thoughts: Should be metal chassis not plastic for two reasons:

1) it is specifically advertised as a Kiosk grade reader
2)it's priced higher than most others that are actually made of metal

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great.. when it works.

Pros: Was easy to install and cable up, no software needed for normal usage, fits an old floppy bay perfectly. Media is limiting factor for speed.

Works great, when it works...

Cons: Doesn't come with a 5.25" bay adapter, which I'd expect for this (high) price.

Seems to have an issue staying connected. I'll be playing a game or listening to music when I hear the familiar windows device disconnected/connected bong sounds. Took me a while to figure out what was causing this until I happened to notice one day that the empty drives went missing from explorer, then came back in time with the bongs. I've owned the XM-37U for almost 3 months now so I suspect returning it would be a lot more trouble than it's worth, so I wouldn't recommend buying this card reader.

3 out of 5 eggsProblematic connection

Pros: fast transfers when it works

Cons: regularly looses connection regularly. I have to physically disconnect the connectors from the internal usb port and reconnect to have it recognized.

5 out of 5 eggsLooks great, works great!

Pros: CRAZY fast, color-coded on the outside, nice bright blue LED matches the rest of my case LEDs, pin-protected CF slot with lots of lead-in, has micro SD slot (my last one didn't), USB 3.0 port on the face

Cons: I wish it made my CF cards smell like bacon.

Other Thoughts: I bought this specifically because the cheap readers out there have nearly no lead-in on the CF slot. So I always end up bending pins and causing problems. This one, about half of the card is inside before the pins engage, plus there's a small flip-down metal door inside that covers the pins when there's no card inserted. Definitely good quality. Windows 7 64-bit picked this up no problem, but definitely do yourself a favor and get the software from the AFT site. Install it, and you get a pretty nifty set of icons in My Computer, showing you which slot is which drive. They're grey when theres no card inserted, and they turn blue when you put one in. Once you've dealt with the cheap card readers, you can really appreciate a nice one like this! Trust me, it's worth the money! And it's FAAAAAST!

4 out of 5 eggsCheesy, but works

Pros: Inexpensive and does what it's supposed to do. Handles all my cards without issue. Installation was pretty simple in my Corsair 800D.

Cons: Software is worthless. Don't download the icons from the website. You can use better icons from other software that look nicer than the ones they provide.

The colors on the front of the bezel are extremely cheesy. Honestly don't think it's worth the $60. Oh well, lesson learned.

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't pay this price again for a card reader. I've found better at other sites. Newegg shipping outstanding, as always!

5 out of 5 eggsFast Good Reader

Pros: I bought this reader because of the color coordinated memory slots. It is easy to see which slot you are going after. I found the drivers off the website very quickly and Win 7 x64 had no problems detecting all drives. It is plugged in an Sabertooth X79 and is super fast with USB 3.0.

Cons: A little more expensive than I wanted to spend, but my wife likes the easy identification of the slots. The cables are long, even in my Blackhawk-Ultra case. I don't feel it is Kiosk grade but works for what I will do with it. I also didn't like that the drive does not show up in Windows until you insert a card.

5 out of 5 eggsGood reader, a bit pricey

Pros: Installation was quick and easy as expected. I had no issues getting the software from their website that updates the drive icons to match the memory card type which is a nice extra. They also updated the cables to be a direct 30 pin connection to dual USB 3.0b connections rather than an adapter to standard cables.

Cons: A bit on the pricey side, but looking at the alternatives that are not all really USB 3.0 I accepted that when I purchased it and did not deduct any eggs for it.

Other Thoughts: Not sure about the people that have problems sometimes, I didn't experience any issues at all. I like the setup and since I use my PC in a dim location I appreciate the color coding on the front so that I don't need a flashlight to put the card in. Their website isn't hard to navigate to get the software.

1 out of 5 eggsNO SOFTWARE INCL

Pros: Nice looking unit, USB 3.0

Cons: Not as well made as you would expect for a "kiosk" grade unit. This is really an overpriced "consumer grade" card reader, its all plastic, the memory cards especially memory stick fit very sloppy in the slots, but the bezel looks cool. The real problem is most of the features of this require software to work and NO CD IS INCLUDED IN BOX WITH UNIT. It just says to download from their website. When you go to the website, it says they are not on the site and to email them for a copy of the drivers/software. I sent an email last week and never got a response. I would highly recommend buying a less expensive unit as this is a decent reader if it was about 1/3 the price.

Other Thoughts: If they actually included the software or had it available on their website, I would have rated this unit higher. But I really don't have the time to chase them to get the software to make this unit work properly.

4 out of 5 eggsUSB 3 plug too big

Pros: Looks good. Different colored slots make it very easy to see what you're plugging in. Fast!

Cons: Need to email company to get URL as to where to download WIN 7 driver. USB 3 header plug is too wide. It hits up against my G-Skill memory on ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard. I had to run the 2 cables through a hole in my Corsair 500R case to the USB 3 ports in the rear. So, now I have 2 less USB 3 rear ports!
Also, it's overpriced, unless you can get it at a discount from New Egg.

5 out of 5 eggsAFT Lays Five Golden Eggs

Pros: Fantastic Card reader... worked like a charm right off the bat. Nice icons available after installing the driver download from the website. Very fast. This puppy gets 5 eggs; I love it!

Cons: The USB 3.0 header pin on my ASUS Sabertooth P67 MOBO is dedicated mainly to my KazeMaster II 4-Channel Fan Controller and I didn't like the idea of running the two USB 3.0 cables through the back of my Thermaltake Level 10 GT case to an external dual port PCI card, so I bought a Koutech PCI card with dual 3.0 internal ports on the card itself. Also, the cables are too long. I could tie them, but opted for shorter cables (extra expense) to avoid the clutter, even though the Level 10 GT is a big case.

Other Thoughts: I had only one PCI 2.0 slot left between my two GeForce GTX 580 Video Cards, one of which is liquid cooled. If that slot wasn't available then I would have had to run the cables out the back of the case (too unsightly!). This emphasizes the importance of pre-planning before making any mods. I lucked out this time.
