5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bang For The Buck.

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC240GMDA-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I feel that this SSD is one of the best "Bang for your Buck" kind of deals right now. In my case I downgraded from a quad raid SSD (4x60GB Kingston V300) configuration because I felt worried about drive failure and power consumption. I know, power consumption was only 10% of the reason for moving to a single SSD but I still feel its a vaild point to add when considering buying storage and when power consumption is a build point. Even with the change to this one single 240GB XLR8, I still couldn't tell much of a performance decrease due to the fact that I didn't transfer a mass amount of data from my computer storage to any secondary storage more then just a few times. I mainly used the SSD for the OS and a few critical programs. In my case the performance for the price I paid was a comfortable ratio that I feel I could do over again if I needed another SSD.

For the last 7 months that I have owned the SSD, it has been great! I haven't had any issues and it seems to be running close to the read and write speed that is advertised. Don't forget that keyword "Close". I would recommend something a little faster for anyone that will be working with large format files, but for any entry level computer enthusiast that are looking to boost their computer performance but don't want to brake the bank, this is a perfect option.

Cons: Maybe the design could have been a little better. Maybe a brushed plastic with a XLR8 engraving on the front. I know this seems silly but I am considering putting a mounting bracket that will place the SSD against the side windowed panel and I don't feel comfortable about using this SSD just because it doesn't have that performance look to it. This isn't really a con just because I have it mounted on the back of my motherboard tray for right now, but It does make me reconsider the mounting bracket, or buying a better looking SSD.

Other Thoughts: This is just going to be a shot in the wind because everything that i'm going to said has to do with appearance. I know with the price point on this SSD i'm not going to get the best looking product or any addition features that come on the higher end SSD but I still feel that the industry should know how I feel. I wish their was an option that the connectors could be mounted in a secondary position, like maybe on the back.

This may sound weird but I have always looked at SSD as a big buy Item and I love building computers that show their stuff off. I know Sata drives are not the most appealing things and I know most companies are trying to hide the hard drive cages on most windowed panels, But my dream to mount an SSD to the side window will come true one day. One of the major issue is that if I tried to do this right now, I would have to have bezels around the SSD to hide the cables that go into the side of it. If it had rear mounted connectors, then it would make it easier to hide the cables with out having to paint bezels on the window to high the cables going in.

You can take it for what it's for but I still think that if this could be an option when buying the SSD even at a higher price point, I would consider paying a little extra for this option.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC240GMDA-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast (when it worked)

Cons: Failed in 3 months. Win 7 System crashed. After recovery, "write amplification" got as high as -6500, and "renaming life" fell from 100% to 94%. A week later, "renaming life" dropped to 81%. Another week, total failure. BIOS cannot recognize SSD. Sent back to PNY for warranty.

4 out of 5 eggsTook a while but works well

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC240GMDA-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Quick loading times for games
Fast read and write

Cons: Don't remember if it had instructions or not but it did not tell me to assign a new drive letter (I've never installed a SSD or HDD before) so I was searching around on Google for a more than an hour to finally land on a post that told me what to do.

Other Thoughts: I would use it for my OS, but that hasn't happened yet so currently it only has games on it.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, "solid" hard drive

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC240GMDA-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast: my last (nearly broken) laptop took upwards of 5 minutes to boot, which I have now changed to 5 seconds under this SSD
Plenty of storage space; I have Windows, some OC and hardware monitoring utilities, and CS6 on it and still 150GB of space.
The XLR8 logo looks cool.

Cons: Had some funny issue with detecting the drive, until I realized that was just my DVD drive.

Other Thoughts: That pun was hilarious, despite whatever you may be thinking

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing SSD

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC240GMDA-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: You just can't go wrong with this drive! Switching from a mechanical drive to this as my main OS drive was like night and day. It made my system feel like every part was upgraded!

Cons: Can't think of anything.

Other Thoughts: At 240GB, it's a little on the low side for heavy creative usage, so just bear that in mind depending on what you intend to do with your system.

As with any Solid State technology, frequent writes degrade the drive over time. Make sure your system is configured the proper way to handle SSDs; especially Windows 7.

Make sure your system is configured in AHCI mode, and make sure TRIM is enabled. If these are working, your SSD will be very happy!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat size, great price

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC240GMDA-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price, Mid-range Performance, Space

Cons: No manufacture software like other drives, other than 2 sata cables no extras but the box and packaging were nice.

Not really a con but it gets 4 stars instead of 5 for not being the complete package but I'm one happy customer.

Other Thoughts: Happy with this as a budget minded mid-range SSD

1 out of 5 eggsLikes to forget your stuff.

This review is from: PNY XLR8 SSD9SC240GMDA-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It has a nice shape.

Cons: Looses drivers upon reboot, resets your clock upon entering sleep mode, this SSD proves to be a security risk and a blatant hassle. A huge waste of time chasing drivers everyday. DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE.

Other Thoughts: It is NOT an item you can get a refund for, they will only send you a new equally worthless item.
