Step Up to PNY SSD Drives

The PNY XLR8 SSD is a long lasting, shock-proof storage drive specifically designed for long term photo/video storage replacement for your computer's existing hard disk drive. These drives feature a 2.5" SATA III, 6Gbps interface, support 128-bit AES encryption and are powered by SandForce 2200-series controllers, offering up to 500MB/s seq. read, 450MB/s seq. write speeds, and 60,000 random read/write IOPS-specs that translate to storage that drastically improves your system's performance and will keep your content stored for a long time. Programs will load faster; less power will be consumed, and with no moving parts your SSD is long-term.

Why PNY SSD?

Users are able to enjoy/share/mirror their media (content) quickly, easily and comfortably to a large flat panel TV using a long, thin, flexible cable. Compared with passive cables, active cables allow for easy roll-up portability with your device.

1 out of 5 eggsThey Died to soon

Pros: Blazing fast while they worked. Good price.

Cons: They stopped working and no computer or device could read them. Everything on them was lost.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these on cyber Monday of 2014. One for me and another for my brother for christmas. Mine was dead by February 2015 and his died about January of 2016.

2 out of 5 eggsGood whilst it lasted

Pros: Product worked great for about a year or so. Super fast as one would expect with an SSD.

Cons: After about a year (maybe year and a half) I noticed the system begin to freeze intermittently. Looking at the resource monitor it drive activity was continuously at 100%, even though data transfer rates were low. Latency was getting into the thousands.

Boot times were painfully slow and the problem seemed to get worse over the course of a couple of months. A couple of HDD tests revealed errors cropping up on the drive.

Other Thoughts: Slightly annoyed as the drive failed a little after a year, but them's the breaks I guess. Should've just paid the extra and got a Samsung drive.

1 out of 5 eggsI got 1 year so it gets 1 star

Pros: Was decent and got it on sale. Fast boot times

Cons: Began to get boot error, BIOS would not recognize. Took out and used a Hybrid drive no more BSOD's and no more black screen asking to insert proper boot device.

Other Thoughts: I should have known better than to buy a PNY product. They make lowsy vid cards so my bad trusting them to make a decent hard drive. Live and Learn

1 out of 5 eggsRan fast, failed quickly.

Pros: Worked as advertised.
Fast.

Cons: Didn't fail gracefully with SMART.
Failed rather swiftly.

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend future purchase from this brand without them really reaching out to consumers. The rest of these reviews should make this evident.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great for about 10 mothns

Pros: It was a big upgrade from a 5200rpm WD Green drive
Super quick while it lasted

Cons: After about 10 months.. Try to do anything and the system comes to a complete halt.
Read speeds around 10-20MBps when it starts to fail..

Left it out of my system for a few months. Thinking hey what the heck lets put this back in. NO its completely dead now lol

Other Thoughts: Started an RMA hopefully it goes through. Replacement will not be used for my primary machine. Better to go with something better like a Samsung SSD which seems to be working way better for over a year now

Ended up with a Samsung 850 EVO, much better now.

1 out of 5 eggsMaybe I got a bad one.

Pros: Super fast when I bought it, 7/14.

Cons: Now 12/15, it's causing computer to freeze, forcing stop of programs. AS SSD Benchmark shows 1.5 -3.0 MB/s write speeds. Tried to find manufacturer specific software to manage it, none exists. Windows has TRIM enabled. I also have a Crucial one and a Samsung one, both still getting 500 MB/s write speeds with the same frequency and type of use.

Other Thoughts: As of now, I wouldn't recommend this product, nor would I buy another one, it was on sale, but when I went back, luckily the price had gone up, and the Samsung was the same price. Going to try to reach out to the manufacturer, hopefully this was just a bad one.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive Failure within 6 months of installation

Pros: Installation is use was good for the first few months.

Cons: Windows explorer crashing and missing/ corrupt files all around mean i'm going to be looking for a new drive real soon and It won't be PNY ever again. Have never had a harddrive fail this quickly.

Other Thoughts: would recommend to people who like burning money.

1 out of 5 eggsNO WONDER THESE WERE SELLING FOR ONLY $80(240GB)

Pros: Nada

Cons: Liquidated a problematic model in a rush to bring the new version in. Should've known better than to trust a $70 250gb SSD(at the time prices weren't adjusted for 250gb yet like they are now.

Straight up DOA. Was freshly opened(sealed before) to start formatting a fresh build and plugged it in..felt it start up. Nothing.
Not in Bios, couldnt detect, partition, etc.
Only thing the SSD do was almost burn me. Thing was hot and it was bulging/expanding like those China made Samsung cell phone batteries(as if it were overcharging).

Granted I didnt open the SSD immediately, it sat in a box on my shelf until the came where I needed it, and it was useless. Didn't know SSD's had a shelf life.

Tried to give different brand a shot to earn my business/loyalty but for now it looks like back to Samsung I go.

2 out of 5 eggs14 months RIP, so young

Pros: It was on sale when I bought it.

Cons: Well, it is pretty much useless now. Ran well enough for about a year, then transfer speeds began to drop. One day my computer was so slow that I had no choice but to reformat. The drive began to not show up in the BIOS. Somehow I managed to reformat, but after reformat the drive still didn't work, bummer.
