1 out of 5 eggsSlow Write Speed

Pros: Reads quickly.

Cons: After owning the hard drive for about a month, I noticed that the write speeds slowed down dramatically. I'm not sure why, but anytime the computer has to write to the hard drive, the entire system comes to a crawl and disk usage stays at 100% under the windows 8.1 task manager.

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable and died after 6 months - STAY AWAY

Pros: Fast while it works.

Cons: Died after 6 months. About a month ago my motherboard (MSI 970 Gaming) was booting with an A2 error code (drive detection error). I took it all apart, put it back together and it worked for another month. Just today, same problem, but nothing would work. Replaced SATA cable, tried different ports, moved drive to another computer, moved it to 2 different SATA to USB bridges (via eSATA / USB 3 / USB 2), and couldn't get it to detect at all that a drive was attached. It's completely and utterly dead.

I came here for the reviews, and it looks like I'm definitely not alone in my experience with this drive.

Other Thoughts: I've had good luck with the Samsung 840 SSDs, not a single failure there.

1 out of 5 eggsDied in four months - avoid!

Pros: Cheap
Fast while it lasted

Cons: Runs hot
Unreliable, died after four months

Other Thoughts: I used this fairly successfully for four months until it stuttered and crashed in the middle of a movie. I was using it to boot Win 8.1 (which was very fast) and run a few resource-intensive games while storing most of my data on a HDD. So, not anything crazy that would justify this thing pooping the bed after just four months! It also ran a little warm for my taste while under load (monitored in Speccy)

Reading the other reviews I see now that I made a mistake in buying this drive. It was for sale for a great price when I was building my machine and I cockily ignored the warnings that it experiences sudden death. "It'll never happen to me!" Well, now it did! Take heed and spend your money on a well-reviewed SSD from a reliable brand.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: Speed

Cons: This drive is unreliable. Since owning it, I've had it fail twice in less than a year. The first time I thought it was my system initially. I looked at my RAM, motherboard, and all drivers before I realized it was the HDD. The manufacturer replaced the drive since it was under warranty, but that drive failed less than 6 months later. This drive has caused me nothing but problems, lost money, and lost time trying to recover information and rebuild my system multiple times.

1 out of 5 eggs3 months in -- RMA requested

Pros: It was cheap and it was fast, but it only lasted 3 months -- just like some girls I've known

Cons: I don't see how I can give this thing any more than 1 stars. In the middle of doing work, the SSD up and crashed on me. Immediate failure. Did not pass go, did not collect $200. Nada. It crashed. Booting into a Linux Live CD indicated the drive as a '32kb unknown disk'

Other Thoughts: Can't recommend it.... Sorry PNY.

3 out of 5 eggsAvg-good SSD drive.

Pros: still very long shelf life left, as per diagnostic tool. was very easy to install.

Cons: data transfer speeds are not super super fast, I don't think there are any other cons.

Other Thoughts: despite it's name XLR8 (Accelerate), I don't think it's that fast. i saw there is a newer version of this item available. out of 240 GB, I would estimate about 200 is usable, and windows 8 takes up about 50 gigs. you are left with 150 GB which isn't too much these days, Also, you may know, hardcore writing/reading will wear and tear on your drive so, use backup.I wouldn't use this drive for heavy photo/video editing or imaging purposes.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great for about 10 mothns

Pros: It was a big upgrade from a 5200rpm WD Green drive
Super quick while it lasted

Cons: After about 10 months.. Try to do anything and the system comes to a complete halt.
Read speeds around 10-20MBps when it starts to fail..

Other Thoughts: Started an RMA hopefully it goes through. Replacement will not be used for my primary machine. Better to go with something better like a Samsung SSD which seems to be working way better for over a year now

2 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Fast (like any SSD...), low cost, 2.5" form factor saves space, SATA III

Cons: Low cost? More like cheap. Crashed on me after 3 months. My laptop went to sleep and when I went to wake it up a few days later, found it to be hot -- not normal for a laptop that has been in sleep mode for a few days. Popped open the back of the laptop and the SSD was hotter than anything else.

Other Thoughts: It worked until it died. It is now completely fried and unresponsive. When I plug it into my hard drive cradle, Windows recognizes the SandForce controller but does not recognize it as a hard drive. I lost a lot of data, mostly schoolwork. Bummer.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Much faster than my old 1 TB HDD. PNY has relatively decent customer support regarding my RMA.

Cons: Originally purchased from Newegg in July 2014, died early 2015. After a quick RMA process (though they needed proof of purchase, save those confirmation emails) PNY sent me a new SSD around Feb. 2015. Today (May 2015) the 2nd PNY SSD died on me.

The first SSD had issues with deteriorating write speeds as well as missing MBR problems. When my 2nd SSD died, my computer crashed with no warning. Upon restarting my PC the missing MBR error popped up again, however using start up repair didn't fix the problem. After installing windows on a separate drive, Windows is unable to recognize the PNY SSD. Drive is officially dead and I lost data that I haven't been able to recover.

Other Thoughts: I'm a forgiving person when a computer part dies the first time and a company's customer support is helpful with the RMA process. However, being that this component died twice in less than a year, I feel the need to warn others about my experience and this product.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 10 months

Pros: Keeps my spare papers from blowing away.

Cons: Failed after 10 months, worked fine until then but failing after 10 months is still inexcusable. It appears from reading these reviews that these drives have a pretty high failure rate, so my advice would be to go with a different ssd from a different company, these are garbage.
