1 out of 5 eggsnever had a chance to use it...

Pros: cheap

Cons: Received a defective drive right off the bat and payed the shipping to return/replace it. According to PNY's RMA status page, they received it over two months ago, yet the RMA is still "in process." I would love to write a review about this SSD's performance, but that's difficult without a functioning product...

Other Thoughts: I suppose this review is more related to PNY and not the SSD itself. I plan to update if the situation is resolved, but unless you have a fantastic purchasing history with PNY, my advice is to stay away.

1 out of 5 eggsShort lived

Pros: Very Fast and Cheap

Cons: Short life, Drive died in less than 1 year. Very hard to tell what is going on when the drive actually starts to go. First my system would hang for short periods of time, then it became longer and longer. Then anytime a download or install was happening the system would lock up. Performance monitor would show that the drive would have response time up to 3k ms (My 7200 rpm Western Digital has a response time of 1-100 ms depending on load.) Then the drive started to disapear from the system and multiple reboots would have to occure before it was detected again.

Other Thoughts: I know this was a cheap drive but expected performance to be slower than the average not for the drive to die within a year of purchase.

Currently trying to contact PNY for an RMA but no luck so far.

1 out of 5 eggsstay far away from PNY

Pros: cheap

Cons: first one was DOA
after paying for shipping for the replacement (making it not so cheap), the second one did work.
However, despite proper set up and alignment, it is slower than my HDD. AS SSD benchmark shows 48 seq read and 36 seq write. I have installed over 20 SSDs from all different manufacturers and this is by far the worst.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid SSD

Pros: 240 GB SSD.

It isn't dead.

Nice finish.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: People like to make a big fuss about SSD benchmarks, but this amounts to splitting hairs for nearly every application. For most people, an SSD is an SSD, you won't notice the difference between this one and some other faster one.

1 out of 5 eggsNot good

Pros: Cheap...

Cons: Constantly stutters while writing and reading, and the write speed is cut entirely, also read speeds are abominable with 115MB/s being the fastest it gets, and it goes as low as 10MB/s failing the synthetic benchmarks preparation stage. Playing Fallout New Vegas It would take longer to load a new area on the Optima than it would playing the same save file on my HDD. Maybe I got faulty product, my guess its a bad controller, if that's true then I have two SSD's that I bought at the same time that are both shot.

5 out of 5 eggsSeamless

Pros: I put it in my system started and using it. I haven't thought about it since then, it just works.

Cons: As always, price will come down on this. If you want the best price, just wait 10 or 20 years.

Other Thoughts: I reformatted mine to ext4 and I use it to hold all my virtual windows machines.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive for my 2011 MBP

Pros: Installation was a cinch. My MBP boots up (power button to desktop) in less than 10 seconds now. All of my large programs (Eclipse, Xcode, IntelliJ IDEA, etc.) boot up WAY faster than they did with the HDD. Updating to this SSD made it seem like I bought a newer model. Because I have had such a good experience with this SSD (and still am), I have decided to purchase another one for my desktop build.

Cons: Would have been nice if PNY included some adapters for normal HDD bays, but luckily the case that I have has drive bays with screw holes for SSDs.

Other Thoughts: So a year and a half ago, I was in the middle of a very busy sophomore year of college. As a computer science major, it was important for my multiple programming applications to start running quickly and have minimal loading time. At this point, I was still running off of a stock HDD that came with my used Macbook Pro. I decided to purchase this PNY Optima 240GB SSD since it was very affordable and had great reviews. I removed the CD drive and placed the old HDD in a caddy that is now in place of the CD drive. That allowed me to boot up and install OS X Mavericks on the new drive very easily.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't last 12 months!

Pros: Worked OK at first, not the fastest and then gradually became slower then died after 11 months.

Cons: This is the 1st SSD that has failed and I have used many. Not satisfied.

5 out of 5 eggsPerforms as advertised

Pros: Easy to install, reliable so far

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I installed this as the boot drive in my son's PC. Installation was a breeze; the PC boots up in seconds now. Happy with this product
