DDR3 is the next generation of DDR memory. DDR3 memory features faster speeds, greater bandwidth, lower power consumption and enhanced thermal performance. Although DDR3 modules are the same physical dimension as DDR2 and DDR modules, the plug-in connector configuration is different and as such DDR3 modules are not compatible with PCs requiring DDR2 modules, and vice-versa.
Boost the performance of your PC. PNY memory upgrades will prove to be an outstanding value now and in the future.
a little unhappy
This review is from: PNY 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC DDR3 1333 Server Memory Model MD16384KD3-1333-ECC
Cons: This did NOT work in a Supermicro MBD-X10SAE-0. Took me an RMA and ordering memory elsewhere and newegg denying my RMA. This memory is REGISTERED memory. It will not work unless your motherboard supports it. Registered is NOT the same as ECC. My intention was not to order registered ECC but unbuffered ECC. Anyways it doesn't work in the above board and probably won' t work in a lot of MBs. I hope this saves someone some time and frustration. BTW I ordered two sticks of Kingston KVR1333D3E9S/8G and they booted up fine. They are unbuffered ECC. I originally thought it was a compatibility with the memory and the MB, but doesn't seem to be the case.
Other Thoughts: For those interested, the RMA was denied because I allegedly peeled of the manufacturers sticker. Trust me I didn't have time to peel any stickers. I was more concerned with getting my server running.
