First there was the hard drive. Then there was the floppy drive, and later, the affordable hard drive. Now it's time to move from electro-mechanical storage to fully solid-state storage.
No moving parts means less power and more reliability (two million hours mean time between failures [MTBF]), and less power means less heat. Using the established 2.5 inch form factor and SATA II interface for maximum compatibility makes retrofitting your computer(s) with this 128 GB solid state drive easy. Use in any environment where you need quiet, low power consumption, or need the drives to be particularly rugged.
A drive like this isn't for just anyone---yet. But if you like being ahead of the curve or you need data storage that's tough as a brick, this could be exactly what you need. So do your homework and make up your own mind; we'll be here when you're done.

RiDATA :(
- Pros: These use (slightly) less power than HDDs, have a longer lifespan, make no noise due to not being mechanical, and are less likely to randomly fail for the same reason.
- Cons: SLC drives tend to be much faster, and do have a 10x longer lifespan. Also, drives like this made using Jmicron controllers and Samsung NAND flash chips have problems causing them to pause for up to (and even past in extreme conditions) a second at a time while performing multiple simultaneous write/read sequences (like sending an IM while listening to music, as you write to an IM log every time you send a message, or surfing the web, as you have to load the page and write to the browser cache). The problems have, however, been solved by another manufacturer using their own controller (which I will not link to or specifically mention due to review rules).
- Other Thoughts: RiDATA, if you want users to pay attention to what you say, and you should seeing as you state a few facts correcting misinformation posted by previous reviewers, you should use proper grammar (and real words), and try to refrain from insulting possible (and former) customers. Overall though, read further into the problems in using Samsung NAND flash chips with Jmicron controllers (greatly detailed in an anandtech.com review of an SSD manufactured by another company) before deciding an SSD is the way to go for you. While it is true that they did not specifically mention RiDATA, nearly all MLC SSDs (such as the RiDATA) use the Jmicron controller in conjunction with the Samsung NAND flash chips and suffer from stuttering/pausing problems.
Extremely Disappointing
- Pros: At times very nice, because of it's quick read speed
- Cons: It will LAG like crazy. Applications will freeze up for 30 seconds and in the meantime I see my Harddrive activity light just solid. It cannot handle minor tasks. AWFUL. I agree with all of the other reviews, and I think the manufacture responses are very unhelpful.
- Other Thoughts: You think that when you spend $400 on a harddrive, that you are going to get something good, but this is just trash.

WOW!
- Pros: uh...SSDs are, in theory, quite cool...
- Cons: WOW. Look at the response from customer SUPPORT "Manufacturer Response:Do you have problem with our SSD drive?" Surprised he didn't follow up with a gruff "You lookin' at me?!?"
NO, brainiac, he had problem with your CUSTOMER SUPPORT.
- Other Thoughts: I came to the reviews because I wanted to build my next gaming rig with SSD's, and customer support is high on my high-pri list, especially with new(er) technologies (makes sense, no?) Seeing the response told me volumes -- poor sap is underpaid, poorly educated, or both, but either alone would be enough reflection on the company as they chose to put him in a CR seat.
Bad call RiDATA. You just lost another customer during the "looking around" phase....
It works well, as expected
- Pros: Really quiet, fast and low power. I am really impressed. Vista performance is more acceptable now (startup went from ~5 minutes to ~2 minutes)
- Cons: None so far
- Other Thoughts: I had no problems installing the SSD in my Sony VAIO SZ691 laptop. "Downsizing" Vista to fit in the 128GB drive from 200GB HD (actual hard drive use was ~50 GB) was more of a challenge. It took a couple of days to find the right software.
