1 out of 5 eggsWon't read SIM Card

Pros: It was cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Cons: It won't read SIM cards, and that's what I purchased it for. Even after going to the manufacturer's web site and downloading the latest dirvers, it still doesn't work.

3 out of 5 eggsFlimsy

Pros: It's compact and fits neatly into my desk drawer without any cables or worrying about it getting damaged. When it works, it does so just as advertised. Layout of the ports is practical. It has a SIM slot. Probably great if you are using an older OS.

I bought it for the SIM port and SD/MicroSD ports. I will keep it for the SIM port just in case I need it, but it won't be seeing a lot of use by me regardless.

Cons: The plastic does not feel sturdy in your hands at all, especially around the USB arm. I have long, thin fingers and usually don't have the kind of trouble that people with bigger hands have when it comes to breakable things.. but I feel like I could snap this thing in two without even trying. Plastic creaks when you plug it in, even as gently as possible. I had a hard time getting my SD card in there.. MicroSD went in fine though.

Even after installing everything, getting this device to work with Win7 is a pain. It seems to like Win7 on my laptop (32-bit) better than my desktop (64) for some reason, but it's still not guaranteed to work without a lot of plugging, unplugging, and sometimes restarting. Most common issue is that Win7 sometimes will not recognize it is plugged in or that there is a card in there at all. Sometimes cards will show as blank (hello, heart attack) or it will not refresh to show new data from a different card.

Other Thoughts: I realize this item is listed as only being supported by Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista. However, this is the first device for Vista that I have had trouble using in Win7. I took off one egg for it not working well in "today's" OS and one egg for the flimsy-feeling plastic in the USB arm joint.

5 out of 5 eggsPocket size for pocket change

Pros: Very nicely constructed, lightweight and all the input ports are nicely puzzled together to keep the form factor small. Probably small enough to just leave plugged in. Excellent purchase for just about any price.

Cons: USB arm can be a little tricky and feels like it could be a weak point, might just be my oafishness but beware if you are fat-fingered.

Other Thoughts: Finally something with a SIM slot, everything in a geek's life should be backed up and a sim card is no exception. No more facebook "i lost my phone" groups...ever.
