1 out of 5 eggsflawed

Pros: Fits in 3.5" opening

Cons: Compact flash slot is too shallow. You must be very very careful or pins will be bent.
Floppy disk doesn't work.
SD cards go in upside down.

Other Thoughts: The shallow compact flash slot seems to be common design flaw found on many readers.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Works well although USB header cable is corrently to short for the memory card reader to function and evaluate.

Cons: None other than I wish the USB header cable was longer, so I could use the memory card reader and that the wires were color coded, so I could tell which one is which easier.

4 out of 5 eggsOK but Odd

Pros: Easy to install, works well, low cost

Cons: Card reader drives show up with no cards inserted. If you want to safely remove hardware, Win XP lists all drives together E.G F,G,H,I,J. as if you must eject even the empty slots. This may not be an issue, buy it seems a little quirky. I am accustomed to Win not recognizing a card as a drive until it is actually inserted.

Other Thoughts: So far, it works well, though I have only used SD cards.

1 out of 5 eggsFloppy needs a controller connection

Pros: The card drives seemed to boot up fine. Didn't really test them as the floppy was my primary concern.

Cons: If you're going to advertise a floppy drive - please state expressly that the FDD is separate from the USB connection! After reading the reviews and specs I thought I finally found an actual USB floppy...but I was disappointed when I looked at the box cover and saw the words, "Floppy Cable".

Other Thoughts: Even though it's old tech - someone could stand to make to make a small fortune if they could make an actual USB FDD as motherboards are phasing out IDE slots. If you can make an external USB FDD, how can you overlook the internal drives? I need floppies to install RAID drivers (among other things) and I still occasionally use Sony Mavicas which use floppies for photo storage.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We totally agree with you that we try to pack too many functions into one 3.5" box and that can mislead some of our customers. Hopefully you did return it back for refund. By the way, we do have an external USB floppy drive. Please look it up on newegg.com

This device is designed for people who need to have a real floppy drive in there system. Some applications will not work with a USB based floppy drive.

We are more than willing to provide all of our customers with prompt exchanges whenever a product becomes defective.

2 out of 5 eggsProblems...

Pros: Floppy drive works for me most of the time. It looks good.

Cons: I have the same problem with it messing up the other USB ports in my system that others mentioned. (Thanks to reparent for posting up his problems so I could figure out my USB issue) SD card slot is too small.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this a few months back hoping to use it in a build that didn't happen until now. As others have said, it affected other USB ports. For me, it's only the front panel ports. If Flash drives appear empty & a USB network adaptor wouldn’t work. The USB ports on the back of the MB seem to work fine. The USB port on the drive itself also works. This MB was used in a previous computer so I know the USB headers were working.

Also, I can't get an SD card to fit in the SD slot. There’s either an alignment problem with the faceplate or the opening is slightly too small. I tried 3 different cards and none of them fit. I even examined and tried the other slots to see if there was a labeling problem. Nope. For this reason, I don’t know how well these slots work.

Finally, the floppy drive worked well enough to let me install RAID drivers. There was one point where the drive wouldn’t read a floppy but all I had to do is reseat the disk & it worked.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsNever worked

Pros: This never worked, when plugged in the USB port it would actually cause all USB ports to act up, deviced would get detected but not work properly.. I didn't bother checking the memory card reader part of it..

Cons: Lost money with this cheap device, not worth sending back due to shipping cost

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

From your description, it was very likely caused by poor connection between the PCI-e card and the slot. Somehow the PCI-e was not firmly inserted into the slot.

The card reader is connected via the header cable provided.

We would like to send you a replacement if reinserting the PCI-e card does not fix the issue. Please contact us ASAP.

1 out of 5 eggsMultifunction floppy disk

Pros: None, it doesn't work

Cons: Lost my money and lots of troubleshooting on this one. First of all, having the USB connected caused problems with my other USB ports but before I could point it to this (I thought it was a motherboard issue) it was already too late for an exchange.
I had swapped the motherboard for another one and was still having the same problems, thats when I knew the problem was caused by this thing.
So no big deal, I thought I'd just unplugg the USB cable and not use that part but the floppy also doesn't work!

Other Thoughts: Maybe I just got unlucky and received a defective unit but it has caused me a lot of wasted time in troubleshooting and frustration!

2 out of 5 eggsCard Reader DOA, USB/Floppy OK

Pros: It fits 3.5" bay, has a floppy drive for those annoying update processes/applications that still refuse to join the 2000's and make you use a floppy drive. It also has memory readers and it's inexpensive.

Cons: The media reader was DOA but the USB pass-through and floppy drive worked fine. Tossed the box before testing it so I can't return it for a replacement. I will buy a USB floppy drive and forget these combo drives because I've had other quality problems before with these floppy combos.

Other Thoughts: Get what you pay for I guess.

4 out of 5 eggswin7 64bit ok

Pros: Nice unit. Reads all kinds of cards, and includes floppy drive and a USB port.
Fairly easy to install.

I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit, and have used it with both SD cards, and Sony camera memory sticks without any problems. It definitely beats hooking up my camera's with those slow and cumbersome USB cables!

Cons: Another reviewer noted that installing requires use of self-tapping screws. Admittedly, this is a little finicky, but I actually found if very easy. With a little careful measuring and marking, I was able to screw the unit into its mounting bracket, and line the front up with my case's front panel, so it looks perfect.

Other Thoughts: The unit has LEDs that light up when you insert an SD card. Note, however, that the light does not mean you have inserted it correctly, even inserting a card upside down will turn the light on. But no harm done, just flip the card over and try again, if the OS doesn't recognize it within a few seconds.

5 out of 5 eggsway cool

Pros: Everything about it. It has lights for each slot. Easy to install. SD and floppy work fine. The floppy drive reads and writes double speed.

Cons: The floppy eject button is thin and a little hard to locate. SD is not clearly marked, and card goes in upside down. The SD card goes in about 8mm and I was not sure it was in the right slot.

Other Thoughts: Its about time a card reader with floppy was made, I'm so happy about it. Cabled up with another 3.5 drive the disk copy function don't work, but each drive works fine as stand alone. It could be Windows defect or cable defect, but I'm not too concerned about it. The good out weights the bug.
