5 out of 5 eggsWorked well on safari

Pros: I had this card in my Canon XT during 3 weeks in Africa. The only time I took it out was the one day I filled it up (I was taking about 700 pictures a day).
Reliable. Fast, I used burst/continuous mode a lot and never had to wait for the card.
Nice price.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: none

5 out of 5 eggsword up

Pros: works quickly, stores much. Reminiscent of the original 2 gig card I had in my camera years ago that cost multiples of this.

Cons: transcend just sounds lame. artwork isn't cool enough... who cares? it's all gravy

Other Thoughts: if you need a CF card with a decent amount of room and don't feel like paying much, get this.

5 out of 5 eggsSSD for Windows 2000 Pro :-)

Pros: Used in combination with a fi' dolla' "Ultra IDE(40-pin) to Compact Flash Adapter" (purchased from another, singularly price-obsessed etailer), this makes an awesome little SSD for Win2K OS install.
*UDMA support
*Fixed disk mode supported by default in the mentioned adapter (and others no doubt)
*comes with a nice plastic shell I'll probably never have to use

I get 46+MB/sec speeds under HD Tach.

Transcend is the way to go with projects like this: highly reliable reputation, fast transfers, plug and play.

It's fun to make your own SSD! :-)

Cons: none whatsoever--know what you're getting, what you need to go with it, and how to configure everything and there will be no surprises--this applies equally to use as an SSD as it does to camera usage or otherwise.
Do your homework! :-)

Other Thoughts: I will be doing this again with Transcend's 300x CF line!

My procedure:
0. Get UDMA CF/IDE adapter
1. minimize (nLite) Win2K disc (optional, 2GB is enough)
2. upgrade to mobo's maximum RAM, even going to 4GB(+) as RAM disk can utilize above 3.5GB
3. during install, full format as NTFS w/ 4KB block size
4. disable "Allow Indexing..." in drive properties
5. turn off virtual memory or move to another drive (RAM disk)
6. create registry value for NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate as dword and set to 1 to minimize filesystem writes *
7. set browser caches & Windows TMP & TEMP environmental variables to point to RAM disk
8. if using AV software, turn off write scans
9. disable prefetch
10. disable unnecessary services, apps, etc.

Dont:
* compress the drive: 25% increase in writes (XP) as per MS

I've done steps 1-5 only so far on my first install. Have not tried installing Gavotte RAM disk* on Win2K, but it is idiot-easy to use under XP and should work under 2k a

5 out of 5 eggsTop Brand of CF cards

Pros: Good price and speed, reliable brand.

Cons: Slow write speed on very small files

Other Thoughts: Compatible with CF to IDE adapter for laptop. One of the fastest 266x CF cards. Seq. read: 43.5 MB/s Seq. write: 31 MB/s

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast and reliable

Cons: Unable to reliably boot - just after bootloader is loaded, drive disappears. 20-30 seconds later the partitions have reappeared and it can successfully boot. unknown if this is solely the card's fault, though other CF (256mb, too small) tried didn't vanish this way.

Other Thoughts: Mini-itx booting from CF project failed, relegated to Canon S410 photo card. (2G marginal size for PC boot anyway but suited my purpose)

5 out of 5 eggsWorks 100%

Pros: I went to Disney World recently and used this CF card and it worked perfectly. I shot hundreds of pictures, w/no problems. Highly recomand it. Very satisfied w/the purchase.

Cons: Wish it was cheaper.

But Newegg's prices are still very reasonable.

Other Thoughts: Super fast shipping, Thanks again Newegg, you guys are the best!!! :) :) :)

5 out of 5 eggsNimble

Pros: Cheaper than dirt. Supper fast. So far reliable

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I use these cards exclusively for my DSLR. Writes faster than camera's 5 FPS burst mode. Makes my Sandisk extreme III 2gb seem like an old slug, and it cost 3x as much. Chose to use multiple 2gb cards to minimize loss of work if cards are misplaced, defective, etc. Glad I did, the cost to benefit ratio is unbeatable with this model.

5 out of 5 eggsVery fast card

Pros: In a side-by-side test of a number of CF cards, this was the fastest by far. It even beat out the Sandisk Extreme IV which is much more expensive.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I have not tested the long-term durability of this card. It's going into an environment that is mostly read-only, so it's not very taxing on the card. It's impossible to say how well it would take to repeated re-writing.
