I just needed very little storage for my FreeNAS 8.3 install. I chose this over a flash drive because I didn't want a flash drive hanging off my PC's USB ports. These tend to last a bit longer running OSs than Flash Drives do. Cost-wise, they're about the same, so I opted for one of these for longevity. You don't need more than 2gb for FreeNAS since any extra space the OS isn't using is wasted space anyway.

It does require a CF card adapter. FreeNAS will pick the adapter and card up no problem with the drivers. This is the card reader I picked up with it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186061

Pros: The Transcend CF cards have been proven to be highly reliable cards, we own hundreds of them and have yet to have a failure. The write speeds are acceptable but not lightning, and the read speeds are pretty good.

Cons: The cons- you should be making your purchases from another vendor. Newegg isn't what they used to be, and their customer service is horrible. If you need help with your order after the sale good luck. I have even had trouble placing orders- and they don't seem to care or want my business. I would gladly pay a few cents more elsewhere to get a company that offers service and support, and shows an interest in their "valued customer".

Pros: Card was installed in a compact flash to ide bork worked wonders

Cons: Died after 3 weeks of use

Pros: This Compact Flash card makes a very nice MS-DOS 6.22 drive on my 486 and Pentium based machines (That support 2GB or larger drives).

I paired this card with this adapter that can be bought here on NewEgg: SYBA SD-CF-IDE-BR IDE to Compact Flash Adapter

Since the CF card is already partitioned to FAT16 and formated, MS-DOS installation was able to start right away.

However I had to go into FDISK and run "FDISK /MBR" Command to write the Master Boot Record, since I didn't use FDISK to begin with.

With out doing that, the drive won't boot. But it will when you write the Master Boot Record. =)

Other Thoughts: Makes a great harddrive replacement for older machines.

Pros: Bought this card along with N82E16822998003 adapter to boot my FeeeNas box. This combo works flawlessly.

Cons: None.

Pros: Worked great in my camera straight out of the box. Happily maxed out my camera's memory capacity since it only supports FAT16. The package was easy to open without the need for a knife or scissors.

Cons: None yet.

Pros: I bought 3 of these chips for the MP3 player in my Infiniti G37. They work great. Definitely fast enough for my application.

Cons: Not something I would score these chips down for, but they come with a FAT16 partition. That caused me to think the first one wasn’t working when I tried to copy 1.7GB of MP3s to it. My rig hiccupped when it got close to 512MB. Lucky for me and this review, I had 2 other chips that did the same thing. So, I figured it was me and not Transcend. A quick re-format to FAT32 and everything works great. BTW, after reading every review on these chips here at Newegg, my guess is that some of the negative reviews could have had the same root cause and hence solution. Transcend should format them FAT32 at the factory.

Other Thoughts: My G37, which is a very nice set of wheels EXCEPT for the digital music system, came from Japan with every extra Infiniti puts in cars. The car has a “Music Box”, a ~10GB hard drive, which can only be loaded by ripping Audio CDs into it. How dumb is that? It also has a Compact Flash slot enabling it to read MP3s from CF chips, BUT that capability is limited to 2GB or 512 files whichever comes first (hence I’m buying 2GB chips). Why would Nissan USA put such silly limits on the sound systems of its high-end cars? The answer may lay in the fact that it also has a native iPod interface. My cowboy preference is for MP3s with no DRM. Just saying.
