Fast memory
- Pros: Lots of storage space for our new Canon 7D. Off loads pictures very quick using the card reader I puchased on NewEgg (see that review) with eSATA connection. Shot 26 RAW files (burst) before camera buffer filled and only took a 7 seconds to offload these shots to the card. In fine JPG, I could never get the camera to stall in burst mode.
- Cons: A little pricey but you get what you pay for.
- Other Thoughts: Bought two of these cards and an 8GB card as well. I have used Transcend SDHC cards in our HD camcorder for a while now without a problem, this is the first time with compact flash and no disappointments with this media type either. It all boils down to paying for performance.
Meets or exceeds specs
- Pros: Easily hits rated speeds in my d300 and sandisk extreme FW800 reader. Filled and dumped in several cameras without an issue. Filled many times over at weddings with a D2x or D300 in raw. Grateful for the space afforded.
45mb/s to the card and 40-50+ from. Probably can hit that unless your system can. I'm running a fast quad core system with raided raptors. Ymmv, and that's why.
- Cons: Price is up $24 from when I bought it. For another $40 you can get the new 600x and hedge against obsolescence.
- Other Thoughts: I've never had an issue with a transcend card. I have owned eight. One is nine years old and I recently passed it on to my brother. I work them all hard. Especially the three 8gb and this 16gb. No data corruption and at least the advertised speeds.
No company can ever hit 0% defects. That's just the nature of current semiconductor processes. But so far so good.
I'm happy.
u810 TS16GCF300 UDMA5
- Pros: Works in udma5 mode!
Is completely silent! Lifetime warranty! Faster than original 1.8 Toshiba hard drive that is also udma5 (MK4009GAL)! NewEgg Customer service is superb Shipping was fast!
- Cons: There is no warning anywhere that it does not allow you to set a hard drive password on it without creating problems that cannot be undone or fixed. It does allow you to set a password but DO NOT SET A HARD DRIVE PASSWORD ON THIS! Because the password can never be removed once set, only changed to a different password! AND your computer will crash after you wake from any sleep/suspend state AND it will no longer work in any other computer AND it will never work in a memory card reader ever again. So don't do it! The password can't be unset, erased, wiped, etc... You can repartition, format, erase the MBR, encrypt, zero every single sector using every product out there, send ATA commands, reflash the bios, nothing will get rid of a password once you set it once and then you can say goodbye to suspending/sleeping your device and the card being read in anything other than the computer you set the password with.
At least this is what I heard from swim.
- Other Thoughts: After finding the right adapter, I'm using this card in my Fujitsu Lifebook u810 as the only hard drive. The one my UMPC came with had an annoying clicking sound when the drive was idle and parked. The CF card obviously doesn't make any sound.
