u810 TS16GCF300 UDMA5
- Pros: Works in udma5 mode!
Is completely silent! Lifetime warranty! Faster than original 1.8 Toshiba hard drive that is also udma5 (MK4009GAL)! NewEgg Customer service is superb Shipping was fast!
- Cons: There is no warning anywhere that it does not allow you to set a hard drive password on it without creating problems that cannot be undone or fixed. It does allow you to set a password but DO NOT SET A HARD DRIVE PASSWORD ON THIS! Because the password can never be removed once set, only changed to a different password! AND your computer will crash after you wake from any sleep/suspend state AND it will no longer work in any other computer AND it will never work in a memory card reader ever again. So don't do it! The password can't be unset, erased, wiped, etc... You can repartition, format, erase the MBR, encrypt, zero every single sector using every product out there, send ATA commands, reflash the bios, nothing will get rid of a password once you set it once and then you can say goodbye to suspending/sleeping your device and the card being read in anything other than the computer you set the password with.
At least this is what I heard from swim.
- Other Thoughts: After finding the right adapter, I'm using this card in my Fujitsu Lifebook u810 as the only hard drive. The one my UMPC came with had an annoying clicking sound when the drive was idle and parked. The CF card obviously doesn't make any sound.
Best Value
- Pros: Best price for 16GB Compact Flash UDMA memory in Canada
Works great with my Canon 5D Mark II I can store up to 560 RAW images
- Cons: none so far
- Other Thoughts: I haven't done a speed test but shooting HD video was no problem.
Transcend rocks
- Pros: These cards are fast! Faster than Sandisk's Extreme III in my experience. Buffer dumps fast on a D3/D300/D700. It even dumped faster than any of my other cards in a D2x.
And it's 16gb.
- Cons: It's not 32 or 64gb. Price has gone up $40 since I bought almost a year ago.
- Other Thoughts: This is my 5th Transcend card. My first was a 256mb in 2001. That card is still alive and well after much use and going through the wash once. I imagined it would have worn out from writing/rewriting by now, but nope.
Back then, SanDisk cards were cr4p. I still don't trust them to this day. Even a couple years ago, we had issues with SanDisk cards corrupting files at the studio I worked at. My one Kingston card has not been kind to me either.
Transcend hasn't let me down, and I'll continue to stick with them. Great quality and prices. I don't know about their customer service, and I don't really care, since I've never needed it. That's how it should be.
