5 out of 5 eggsServing me well

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDP8W USB 2.0 All-in-One Multi Card Reader

Pros: Small
cheap (price)
accepts lots of different cards
bright LED status indicator

Cons: Usb cord is on the short side, but honestly do you need to be 12ft away from your pc while loading a media card?

Other Thoughts: A good investment. I was looking for a cheap reader that would cover all the bases. I have used it daily since I got it with 2 different SDHC cards, at different sizes, and with different file systems. Working like a champ.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good...so far

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDP8W USB 2.0 All-in-One Multi Card Reader

Pros: It works pretty well. I have a card reader built-in on my laptop, but, based on the recommendation of my photography class instructor, got one of these. Being relatively inexpensive is always a plus too.

Cons: None thus far

Other Thoughts: I like it. I haven't used it much yet though. One thing I still have to figure out is how to get it to automatically upload pics to my laptop while erasing them from the card. My instructor could do it, so I know it's possible. Guess that's why I only have "average" tech knowledge lol

5 out of 5 eggsPerformance info

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDP8W USB 2.0 All-in-One Multi Card Reader

Pros: Faster to copy data from SDHC cards than through the recording devices that were used to save data to the cards.

Cons: There might be other USB devices that are faster than this one. The documentation is vague on what the requirements are to obtain the maximum throughput on this device.

Other Thoughts: Here everyone this might help you out. I ran some speed tests using an A-DATA 16GB SDHC Class 10 memory card (blue). I copied 6.81 GB of data from it to the desktop on my PC. This data consists of 7 files: 4 of the files are less than 1MB in size each, the other three make up the majority of the data size. Here is the time it took to copy the data using 3 different devices.

SDHC port on HP Photosmart C5580 printer: 19min 40sec
Canon FS100 camcorder: 14min 45sec
Transcend TS-RDP8K: 6min 55sec

Note, my USB reader is the black model, not the white model.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Work

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDP8W USB 2.0 All-in-One Multi Card Reader

Pros: none

Cons: First unit couldn't read anything, DOA.

Second unit was able to read a 2 GB Compact Flash card, however it can't read a 16 GB card.

5 out of 5 eggsHandy Device to Have

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDP8W USB 2.0 All-in-One Multi Card Reader

Pros: Bought this item when I switched my desktop from XP to Win 7 and there were no working drivers for the build in card reader. This thing is small and light weight, plugs right in and works. Cheap card reader that has a nice durable feel to it.

Cons: It's not really a con, but the cords it came with was short, bought a longer one to bring from back of desktop up on desk. No problem for laptops and such I suppose.

There's two different sides to where you can slide in cards, it's not a big deal to me but way I have it set up does require me to pull cord a bit to see the other side.

Other Thoughts: Great item for cheap, would recommend to anyone in need of a card reader.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst bummer with Newegg

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDP8W USB 2.0 All-in-One Multi Card Reader

Pros: Features advertised by Newegg

Cons: Just a lemon - does not work, not detected by my Win 7 Ultimate, just one of those non-working production items. I liked the features that satisfy my needs for my laptop. The pilot light does not even light- this unit is just a defective one. And I am expected to pay a re-stock fee? Come on Mr/Miss/Mrs Newegg- after all the praises and sales I referred to you over the last five years? I received a non-working unit and you want to 'sock-it' to me??
Replace the donkey with a working unit and don't fret over an insy piece of CHEAP item like this. The least I can expectis that it WORKS, My favorite website source isn't that badly off??? Cheap makes Cheap, but must work??

5 out of 5 eggsno issues

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDP8W USB 2.0 All-in-One Multi Card Reader

Pros: No issues with this reader under Linux (Fedora 11-12). Seems to max out the speed of my CF and SD cards. It's small and light, it would be easy to attach to the side of something with some velcro or tape.

Cons: none
