3 out of 5 eggsVery Tight Going In!

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDF5K USB 3.0 Support SDHC (UHS-I), SDXC (UHS-I), microSD, microSDHC (UHS-I), and microSDXC (UHS-I) Flash Card Reader

Pros: Unit worked great with my microSD card, as I was able to transfer nearly a gig of files with no problems at all. However, I wasn't able to use my regular sized SD cards, though. Read the cons to see why.

Cons: Unit takes a little force to plug in and pull out of the USB 3.0 ports on my Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case. It felt like I was going to break something, to be honest.

Also, my Phanteks Enthoo pro Case has a flip-up panel that hides the front USB ports. I can only use the card reader with a microSD card in these particular USB ports, as the larger sized cards interfere with the flip-up panel keeping it from plugging all the way in. Something to consider if your case has a flip-up panel. My back USB ports are all taken up with other USB devices, so the front panel was my only option. I will be unable to use this device with all my regular sized SD cards, which is very disappointing. I'll now have to find something else to use.

Other Thoughts: I took 2 eggs off due to the unit taking a little force to plug in and pull out, which feels like it could cause some damage to the USB port with repeated use. Just be careful when plugging it in and pulling it out and you should be fine.

This reader just don't work well with my particular computer case, at least with the front USB ports. I can't blame the reader for that, so I didn't take off any eggs for that.

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDF5K USB 3.0 Support SDHC (UHS-I), SDXC (UHS-I), microSD, microSDHC (UHS-I), and microSDXC (UHS-I) Flash Card Reader

Pros: Kept up with my High Performance MicroSD card 100+MB/s

Cons: Gets a bit warm to the touch after transferring large amounts of data. Not really a problem at this point.

4 out of 5 eggsFast, but runs HOT!

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDF5K USB 3.0 Support SDHC (UHS-I), SDXC (UHS-I), microSD, microSDHC (UHS-I), and microSDXC (UHS-I) Flash Card Reader

Pros: Retail packaging, no 'OEM' loose wrapped item.
Very fast speeds with any connected card to USB 3.0.

Cons: Runs hot if transferring a huge file or during speed testing of devices. The reason why I'm docking an egg.

Other Thoughts: Got this for faster transfers of my microSDHC Class 10 UHS-1 device, both Crystal Disk Benchmark & HD Tune reported the speeds as fast, with read speeds faster than advertised by the OEM.

As noted in 'Cons', the device runs hot if used to transfer a huge file or during speed testing. Haven't had the device long enough to know if this will lead to shorter life, however Transcend has been a good brand to me to date. And am sure they'll make it right if something goes wrong.

I'd like to use it to run a portable Linux on, but the heat concerns me, don't know if it'll heat up my motherboard or not.

Will likely use it for transferring files only. Nevertheless, it'll bring out the speeds of any connected SDHC or microSDHC cards. 90MB/sec reads on ADATA Class 10 UHS-1 card, that's 10MB/sec faster than advertised.

5 out of 5 eggsWORKS WITH >32GB CARDS

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDF5K USB 3.0 Support SDHC (UHS-I), SDXC (UHS-I), microSD, microSDHC (UHS-I), and microSDXC (UHS-I) Flash Card Reader

Pros: My computer did not detect my new 64GB SD card using my older adapter, but does detect SD card with this new 3.0 adapter. Works well with my microSD cards.

Cons: Can't leave unprotected in pocket because lint migrates into slots.

Other Thoughts: If you keep adapter in your pocket put a cover over it, otherwise slots will collect lint or tissue from inside pocket.

5 out of 5 eggsFast

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDF5K USB 3.0 Support SDHC (UHS-I), SDXC (UHS-I), microSD, microSDHC (UHS-I), and microSDXC (UHS-I) Flash Card Reader

Pros: Fast. My SD card plugged in the built in SD adapter gives me 23MB/second read speed. When plugged in the same machine with this SD adapter in one of the USB 3.0 ports, the speeds are 66MB/second average. Could not believe it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Happy!
