Cheap, speedy ReadyBoost
- Pros: Cheap and FAST. Slim profile doesn't get in the way permanently plugged into the back among the other USB cords.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: Does ReadyBoost really provide any tangible benefit when running Vista x64 with 8GB of RAM? Hard to say... online research is kind of inconclusive. But even if it doesn't, this drive is cheap enough that it doesn't hurt to try!
Works with Vista64 as Readyboost
- Pros: Works as an effective Readyboost on my new Vista64 system (HP Pavilion m8350f). Times will be specific to your configuration (added software and hardware). Without ready boost, for three successive restarts, time from start of Windows Boot to Login Screen was 83s, 77s and 101s with corresponding times from Login to (loaded) sidebar fully displayed, 25s, 38s, 15s. WITH a PD7 as Readyboost for three subsequent consecutive restarts, Windows Boot to Login Screen was 80s, 51s, 49s and Login to sidebar fully displayed was 14s, 7s, 6s. For a relatively cheap device this is a reasonable performance boost and affordable to keep as normally inserted into an available USB port.
- Cons: None so far !!
- Other Thoughts: Make sure you plug this into a USB port which is directly connected to a header on the motherboard NOT to an add-in USB card as the speed of the add-in card responsiveness can negatively impact whether Windows thinks the device is fast enough to use. You will not get a massive increase in performance during boot up to the login screen if you have a large number of external of internal devices connected that windows needs to check on during boot up, you only get the advantage of the improved read time from the flash drive over otherwise reading the same files from your hard drive, so not everyone gets the same overall % performance improvement.
died
- Pros: worked fine for readyboost
