5 out of 5 eggsNice upgrade

Pros: Fast enough. Older technology but still viable. No issues or problems. Just be sure BIOS is set to AHCI for smooth results not IDE.

Cons: The firmware updater is picky as all if the SSD is your boot drive and I could never get it to run.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING SSD!!!

Pros: This SSD is AMAZING! It looks sharp (looks like a dark brushed aluminum case), and this thing is lightning quick. Very easy to swap out my old HDD. I'm using a Macbook 2,1 (2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB DDR2 667, OS X 10.6 Snow Leapord) and this thing is amazing...i cant say it enough. Install was a breeze, i just pulled out the old drive and did a clean install on the SSD, from start to finish took under 40 minutes.

Cons: None so far. This drive kicks A**!!!, and its only $150 for 256GB!!!

Other Thoughts: This Drive IS AWESOME!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: FAST
Cheapest I can find ($150 at time of purchase)
Worked out of the box on two seperate systems.
No firmware worries
SATA II compatible
Mounting hardware

Cons: Acronis software is OLD

Other Thoughts: Worked great out of the box. I bought two of these - one for a server, and one for my workstation. I can boot 5 VMs (2 AD controllers, 1 cert auth, 1 exchange, and 1 sharepoint w/SQL) all in about 90 seconds (at the same time).

Not including BIOS POST, windows 8 boots up in 9 seconds. I'm stunned at the speed of SSD. Pure awesomeness.

The drives also came with a 2.5 to 3.5" sled for easy installation - I was quite pleased with that. Nothing fancy, but at least it gave me a method to install it easily.

At the time of my purchase, these drives came with Acronis TrueImage software. The version is really old - version 10 I think? It wouldn't even install on windows 8... I read about compatibility problems with windows 7, so I just threw it out. Thankfully I didn't need the software either way, but wanted to post it in my review in case someone else is wondering.

Between this SSD and windows 8 - it just breathed in a few more years of life to my PC.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far--works and is awesome.

Pros: Very, very fast, even on a SATA II connection (mid-2009 MacBook Pro 15"). The SSD now allows me to boot up in 15 seconds, as opposed to over two minutes with my 7200 RPM drive that I plan to put into the optical drive bay. Everything is nearly instant now. Wake is instant (although sometimes the beach ball appears for a few seconds). Honestly...this thing made my computer feel brand new and run faster than it did when it WAS new.

Cons: The packaging was DAMAGED, NEW EGG. I sent an email in with pictures. For a $300 unit, this is inexcusable.

Less space than my 512GB 7200 HDD that cost $120.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive when it had 0 reviews and was $300, 2 weeks ago. Took a chance because this is the V2 version--the previous version, as I understand, had a different SandForce controller and had higher read/write speeds but was MUCH LESS stable.

This unit went, in increments, from being $300 to being >$400 in two weeks. Amazing.

TRIM: this drove comes with it. HOWEVER, from what I've researched and TESTED, do not enable the TRIM if you have a MacBook. Apple specifically designs its TRIM function for its own SSDs, not those of other parties. If you do enable TRIM, your SSD will work twice as hard and will probably not last as long. The write/read speeds will also be down, by a good amount--I verified this phenomenon with a hard drive bench marking tool, running over 5 benchmarks with TRIM ON and over 5 with TRIM OFF. Benchmarks aside, the OS X performed visibly faster with TRIM OFF.

5 out of 5 eggsFantasticly FAST

Pros: This SSD drive was a breeze to install and works perfectly in my Dell Latitude E4300 laptop. My WEI went from 5.6 with the factory 250GB 7200RPM Seagate drive to 7.5 with this ADATA SSD. ATTO Disk Benchmark indeed shows this drive lives up to it's stated speed claims - it's truly amazing. My laptop starts up and shuts down in roughly 10 seconds and sleeps/resumes in about 2 seconds.

Cons: Price? Even so, it's a great deal for the money when you compare it to other manufacturers.

Other Thoughts: This SSD is a worthy upgrade, I highly recommend it! Also, the recent firmware update released 1/4/2011 from 3.1.0 to 3.4.6 was a bit quirky in the sense that you run the firmware update withing Windows (Windows 7 x64 in my case) and you basically wait for the system to restart on its own. In my case it didn't perform the automatic restart and I had to manually power the machine off and turn it back on again. Thankfully it all went down with no data loss or lengthy backup/restore operations.

5 out of 5 eggsRestore problem solved (Acronis)

Pros: A-Data TS gets five eggs, as well as the SSD. A-Data put a tech on the problem, duplicated the issues in Win 7 and Ghost, and provided a solution (Acronis). The final story.... drive images can't be restored using Win 7 Backup/Restore, or using Norton Ghost. However, image backup/restore does work using Acronis 2010.

Cons: At least Backup/Restore works using Acronis 2010.

Other Thoughts: TS from A-Data was better than that from OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, and Corsair when I had trouble with their SSDs (earlier builds).

5 out of 5 eggsA-Data TS responds. Restore Pt . 4

Pros: A-Data has duplicated the restore from image problem and has solved it using Acronis. Ghost doesn't work, however. Moreover, A-Data TS got Acronis to restore using an SSD image stored on a higher capacity spinner. I've encouraged A-Data to productize this. Five eggs for effort and followthrough. I'm waiting to learn if the restored image is as fast as the original on SSD.

Cons: The major con is being solved (see Pros above).

4 out of 5 eggsRestore problem part. 3

Pros: 5 eggs if you never intend to restore an image to this SSD. Otherwise, look elsewhere. See my previous posts below.

+1 to A-Data for driving down the cost of SSDs.

Cons: I exchanged email with A-Data about the restore from image problem and haven't heard back. After A-Data failed to respond, Newegg stepped up the to plate and gave me a store credit. Restoring an image to SSD is very tricky, but usually works after nuking (hard erase) the new SSD and restoring same size SSD image to same size SSD drive. I've done it with OCZ and Corsair SSDs, but could not do with the A-Data SSD. BTW, restoring a spinner image to an SSD almost never works, and if it does, the performance is REALLY bad.
