ADATA’s S101 flash drive, produced under advanced COB (Chip On Board) manufacturing processes, is a compact and delicate technological gem. Boasting a unique and comfortable toothed texture, the S101 allows you to manifest your personal sense of elegance, at a price that stays true to your checkbook.
Great drive, but a lanyard would have been nice
This review is from: ADATA S101 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Black) Model AS101-8G-RBK
Pros: Great little drive. For the price and style it can't be beat. This drive is what I call a "slider," meaning that the drive is in a shell and slides out when you simultaneously push down and forward on the slide button. I love this design because it eliminates the need for a protective cap. The #1 complaint with most drives of this design is that they leave the hollow tip of most USB drives unprotected from dirt. Adata has resolved this flaw by using "printed" connections. The tip is just a bit of tough plastic with what looks like gold-plated connections for data transfer.
Cons: LANYARD!!! C'mon Adata. I knew ahead of time from other reviews that this drive does not ship with a lanyard, but the miniscule form factor of this drive makes it impossible to find material to serve as a lanyard. This drive would serve perfectly as a keyring flash drive, but I had to cannibalize the functionality of one gizmo just for a bit of string. Even 2 mm climbing accessory cord wouldn't fit through the tiny loop. I want something durable to in that tiny loop, not fishing line.
Other Thoughts: This drive is TINY. It's so small that the sliding portion outweighs its protective shell. Opening it is just as easy as with bulkier/heavier drives of this design. TBH, the Adata's simple locking mechanism feels more secure in both the open and closed position than my old kingston slider (and I LOVED that thumb drive).
