Pros: Reliable and fast

1 out of 5 eggsexpensive junk

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-256GM-C 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: ordinary SSD when it works

Cons: piece of junk, very unreliable, Lasted 2 months and windows 7 stop detecting it. Had it repaired, one year later the same problem. ADATA's people are not replying to my e-mail for repair though the warranty is 3 years.

Other Thoughts: Never again ADATA

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry that your SX900 is not working properly. Unfortunately, DOA does occur from time to time and that is why there is a warranty on our products that covers this issue. Please send it in for an RMA exchange and you will receive a working replacement. The ADATA RMA process is a simple and painless procedure. Please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you,
ADATA Technology Customer Service

2 out of 5 eggsBad luck?

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-256GM-C 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: SSD; quick boots, increased speed over platter HD's

Cons: Purchased April 2013 from Newegg. PC BSOD, Disk health is 45% with I/O errors. Shortest lifespan of any drive I have ever owned. I have platter based HD's still running at 100% health after 6+ years. I will NOT buy this brand again. Bought a Samsung replacement, will check warranty and see if I have any recourse.

Other Thoughts: This might just be a case of bad luck.., drives fail. This just seems to have failed very fast

2 out of 5 eggsStopped working after 26 months

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-256GM-C 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Worked well while it lasted

Cons: Very unfortunate that the disk had to die on me right at the beginning of semester. Can't get a worse con than not working.

Other Thoughts: Are SSDs supposed to die after 2 years? If so, are they really that much better?

3 out of 5 eggsDied after 22 months

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-256GM-C 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy to install, comes with bracket, speed is ok.

Cons: Drive stopped working after 1 year, 10 months of usage.

Other Thoughts: Will most likely avoid this brand in the future. Was a first.

1 out of 5 eggsJust Don't

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-256GM-C 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Customer service is OK

Cons: Multiple drive failures

Other Thoughts: Bought this with a new computer build a few years ago. I have sent it back for RMA twice, and it has started to go out for a third time (same symptoms each time). I've spent dozens of hours of troubleshooting and weeks of a drive-less computer while they ship me a new one.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked for 2 years

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-256GM-C 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: - Fast enough. Never ran a speed test, but I never experienced a slowdown (while it was working fine) due to the SSD
- Fairly priced among drives
- All the other benefits of having an SSD

Cons: - Started to fail after 9-12 months of use. Had to reformat once, worked a little better, problems arose again.
- 2 years in, its finally given up completely. Can't install a new OS on it.
- Attempted to look for new drivers/firmware (maybe that could be the issue) but learned two things:

1) Your data is wiped when you update the firmware. Inconvenient if you have important documents and haven't backed anything up. Yet another hard lesson in "shut up and back up".

2) This device wasn't listed in the firmware update. Plenty of others, just seems like they skipped over this one. Interesting.

Other Thoughts: It was good while it lasted. Once you get a SSD going back to a spinning disk drive is painful. I have an OS loaded on a conventional drive until I get a new SSD and it feels like going back to the 90s and using 56k.

Could be that I got unlucky and received a drive with problems off the line, but thankfully they have a warranty for when that happens.

I'm still covered under the warranty, so hopefully the issues are resolved. Still...after this experience I feel like I'll put a Linux distro on the RMA'd drive for fun and rely on a more trusted, well-known brand for my main OS.

5 out of 5 eggsStill working beautifully

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-256GM-C 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Read/Write speeds are actually what they say they are (around 500 mb/s for both read and write). This is the biggest plus for me, a lot of product's specifications don't match with the benchmarked times you do on your own.

I've has this for At least 1.5 years (closer to 2 years) with no problems what-so-ever. SSD-Life still says it's at 100% health after it's been powered on 826 times. Also says its estimated lifetime from now is 9years 5months. It's going to last much longer than my PC is, which is just fine by me.

I don't use a lot of space, only play a couple games or so at a time and only edit 1 video at any given time. Therefore this is my primary and only drive for everything. Which means my pc feels way faster than any HDD pc no matter what kind of parts they're using.

Cons: At the time there was no cloning software that supported GPT, so I had to reinstall windows 8. Not really the ssd's fault..

2 out of 5 eggsWorks but for how long?

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-256GM-C 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: The drive is fast. I never had any issues with it while it was working.

Cons: The fault of this drive really comes from it's inability to work for an extended period of time. It was working for a year straight and then died and I had to warranty. ADATA fixed my drive and in a couple of weeks sent it back to me. It lasted another 8 months and all was going well until it just died again. I'm going to try and warranty again since it is 3 years warranty.

Other Thoughts: Honestly, I may have had a stroke of bad luck. But i think other manufacturers like Samsung may have a higher quality SSD that might not require 2 weeks of fix time every 9 - 12 months.
