5 out of 5 eggsCan't quiet beat the price

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: $/GB. This is probably one of the cheapest SSDs out there. Speed is pretty good: went from 95-second boot time to 18 seconds. All other processes are now FAAAAAAST in comparison.

Cons: 512GB is max size. I wish there was a unit in 750GB-1TB range available.

Other Thoughts: Early 2011 MacBook Pro, I5, 2.3GH, 16GB. For those wanting to install this as the main drive on your MBP, if the drive does not work at first, it's most likely your SATA cable from drive to mother board that's malfunctioning. Spinning drives are not as finicky about faulty cables. But, an SSD requires a fully functioning cable to be even recognized. I went through 3 SSDs before I figured it out. Changed that cable and all is well now.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Nice performance. Good Price

Cons: First one died after 3 days -> RMA
RMA cost an additional $10 and took 3 weeks to get the replacement.
Second one died after 3 weeks -> Refund

Other Thoughts: After the first drive randomly disappeared from BIOS, I figured I was one of the unfortunate few to get a bad drive and requested a replacement.
No Big Deal.
Thanks to the second drive also refusing to be recognized, I've now lost 3 weeks of data (bills paid, emails downloaded, pics, etc) most of which can/must be recreated. Instead of enjoying my computer, I'm rebuilding lost data.
I'm simply not willing to risk another crashed drive from this manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It is SSD, haven't met one that was slow yet.

Cons: Supplied disk migration software(Acronis True Image) does not work on drives that are GPT formatted. And, I think the UEFI BIOS may have also played a role.

End result I paid 15 bucks for Paragon's "Migrate OS to SSD" software.

Other Thoughts: Be aware of potential issues migrating GPT formatted OS drives on systems that have an UEFI BIOS.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Excellent price (purchased on sale); I've had good success with AData SD cards

Cons: Dead on arrival. Returning to Newegg for replacement. Assuming that solves the problem, I'll update the review.

5 out of 5 eggsMuch better

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast and flawless so far. It was recognized instantly thru my usb dock. I had it cloning within a minute.

Cons: none this time around.

Other Thoughts: This was a replacement for a defective drive that was rma'd. Newegg turned it around in good time considering the weather we had. The manufacturer also sent contact info when they saw my first review. I didn't need to go that far, but it's always nice to know a 2nd option to a problem exists.

5 out of 5 eggsBest drive for the money and then some.

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It is very fast and reliable. It far out performs at sister drive the SP 900. I am also finding out it is comparable if not better than other drives in the pro class. In addition it comes with a mounting bracket if if your case does not already accommodate it. I would recommend this drive and I'm considering purchasing a second. And you can't beat the price.

Cons: At this point I have no cons to report.

Cons: None as long as it lasts

Other Thoughts: Make sure to check price at competitor's as well. I have the Adobe suite, Steam, MS Office, etc. and still have 350+ GB left

1 out of 5 eggsTime will tell

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Looks great. Specs show lots of promise. Newegg shipped it fast and it arrived in a well protected undamaged package.

Cons: Defective drive. Cannot access it. Showed up briefly and started to clone - then poof - could not see it. Tried in 2 different computers and 2 different external devices. Both setups would see other drives but not this Adata SSD. RMA;d it.

Other Thoughts: I have used Adata memory in several machines over several years with zero problems so I figured they would make a good SSD. Maybe not. See what the next unit does or it's off to a different brand. I have had no problems with SSD builds using Intel, Crucial and Plextor.

5 out of 5 eggsBest upgrade yet

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: After the primary HDD in my rig went out, I saw it as an excuse to upgrade. I was lucky enough to catch this on sale, and if you can do the same, BUY IT.

I'm one of the many that still run Win 7 x64 and through all of the initial installations and updates, to go from desktop, restart, to desktop would only take ~18sec.

While it's fractions of a second, there is a noticeable difference in load times.

Drive comes with a 3.5" adapter.

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: Setup:

i5 760 @ 2.8GHz
ASUS P7P55D-E LX mobo
8GB DDR3 1600 Kingston Hyper-X
SLi (2x) EVGA 560 Ti
A-Data 512GB SSD
WD 1TB secondary drive

5 out of 5 eggs1 year running

This review is from: ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: reliable, fast

I am very happy with the purchase. I am installing SSD drives in my laptops

Cons: pricey, but it is worth the speed gained in the computer
