1 out of 5 eggshigh frequency noise's driving me crazy

Pros: high speed of reading and writing

Cons: I bought this msata to avoid the traditional heavy and noisy hard drive. However, it turned out to bring the high frequency noise to me, which I discovered way long than 30 days after and was unable to return for a replacement. It might just be mine. But do pay attention to the noise it makes.

5 out of 5 eggsFirmware 5.0.4 is here - great SSD!

Pros: Excellent speed and reliability

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I want to inform folks that firmware version 5.0.4, which corrects the SandForce TRIM bug, is in fact available for this device. You will find it on the MyDigitalSSD website. This is exactly the same device. I upgraded the firmware on my SX300 and it works great.

Hope this helps!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome drive

Pros: Incredibly fast even over 3Gb SATA. I put this drive in a Lenovo E430 and it makes such an incredible difference over the 5400RPM drive that comes with it that it's hard to believe. Boots in less than 10 seconds. Patching and service pack application is also incredibly fast compared to a spinning drive.

Cons: Not large and cheap enough to completely allow me to remove the slow spinning drive in the laptop.

Other Thoughts: No real complaints whatsoever

5 out of 5 eggsfantastic little guy

Pros: so small! Managed to throw this in a Lenovo U410 laptop. Changed BIOS settings to AHCI. Formatted and installed Windows 7 on this bad boy. Then kept the 750GB standard HDD in the laptop for storage. So sick to be able to have 256 GB SSD and a 750 GB HDD in an ULTRABOOK!

Cons: it's still on the expensive side.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: It is a fast mSATA SSD that I really want to like.

Cons: ADATA has refused to release an updated firmware for this drive for several months now. The current version as of December 17, 2012 is 5.0.2a which has the famous TRIM bug that is present on all LSI SandForce SSDs that use the 5 Series firmware.

The fix is for ADATA to stop dragging their feet and release firmware 5.0.4 so that performance is restored to what is promised. As a side note, nearly every other manufacturer has done their job and released the firmware but only ADATA refuses to do so.

Other Thoughts: BUYER BEWARE! Do not buy this drive until you see firmware 5.0.4+ on the ADATA's SX300 download page.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are currently finishing testing for the latest firmware and hope to have it released by mid January.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate for M6600 usage

Pros: When working, it works good.

Cons: ---- Update ----
took one star away. Starting to have issues with the drive not being recognized by the Bios on cold start up. I have to shut down twice, sometimes 5 times before it is recognized. This must be a sign of the drive going bad since it never did that before. It could also be an issue with the computer's BIOS; regardless, this should be brought to attention.
----------------

Other Thoughts: Will investigate.

5 out of 5 eggsLenovo Y580

Pros: 525+MB/s peak
Installs in the mSATA slot without removing the 1TB hd
Runs at SATA-III (Lenovo Y580)
No installation issues(used Acronis to copy image of the hd)

Cons: Gets relatively warmer hd temp readings.
Slower than the top competition when it comes to incompressible files due to the sandforce 2281 controller.
Hard to find mounting screw.(should be included)
Why is it more expensive than 2.5" SSDs?!?!

Other Thoughts: Please release a 512GB version.

4 out of 5 eggsBest for Programs

Pros: Partitioned it into 2 drives and dual boot between OSX and Win7. Used in conjunction with a Dell Precision M6600 with qty 2 HGST Travelstar 2.5-Inch 500GB 7200RPM SATA III 32MB Cache SATA 6Gbps Drives (HTS725050A7E630) in Raid 0.

In windows, moved the desktop to the RAID drive, and temporary files to "Ramdisk" using Primo Ramdisk. The SSD is just used for operating systems and program installation launching. Games are installed on the RAID array.

Cons: I'd recommend a fresh operating system install. An image of your old disk may not enable garbage collection to maintain your SSD performance. For Windows users, most of the documents you need to backup are located in "C:\users\".

Other cons are, for some reason this drive is pricier than other options, but works!

Other Thoughts: The setup works flawlessly. SSD performs reasonably. Although it is a SATA III disk, the MSATA port on the Dell M6600 is only SATA II. Boots to a usable desktop pretty fast, and launches programs faster than when I ran a standard hard drive, but not with the surprising speed most cheer... in contrast, I do have a lot of drivers that load at start-up compared to a 'normal' user's computer.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy install, great performance

Pros: Fast, quiet, easy install. Allows for two hard drives in laptop.

Cons: Expensive.

Other Thoughts: Installed in a Dell Precision M4600. Allowed me still keep original 2.5" HD, together with this SSD.
(got the MyDigitalSSD, as it was available sooner somewhere else).
Installation was VERY EASY!!! Imaged original install (from our IT department) onto this drive. Was up and running in no time.
Besides speed, solid state drives are quiet, which is also an advantage for laptop usage!!
Have owned for 2 months now, and no issues.
Still have to see long term performance.
Would advice. The overall response of the laptop became MUCH, MUCH better. Get a solid state drive!!
