3 out of 5 eggsAdequate but no indicator LED

This review is from: ADATA DashDrive Series UV128 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Black/Yellow (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: Simple USB stick. Works OK in USB 3.0 I did not do any real hard testing but saw > 50MBs on reads.
I like the one piece design; no cap to lose, but dirt can get into connector because it's not covered.

Cons: No indicator LED. I thought that was universal. Going to have to buy a couple of Samsungs.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Bootable

This review is from: ADATA DashDrive Series UV128 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Black/Yellow (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: Seems to store files fine, and a fair clip -- time will tall (lots of reviews with tails of failure, down the road).

Cons: Not bootable. I bought several of these to use as bootable Linux drives, and they CANNOT be configured as bootable, PERIOD! No problem with the blue 16GB USB 3.0 ones, or the old red 16GB USB 2.0 ones, but the yellow 16GB ones just won't boot.

Other Thoughts: There's no excuse for marketing a thumbdrive that cannot be configured as a bootable drive. Walk away.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

1 out of 5 eggsThese fail in droves!!!!

This review is from: ADATA DashDrive Series UV128 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Black/Yellow (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: I really wanted to like these but can find no real positives

Cons: High failure rates!!!!

Other Thoughts: I have about 20 of these both of the yellow and blue versions. I struggle to find a working one when using Rufus to create OS installation boot drives. Probably fully 30+% of them do not function, have dead cells and are not useful. I switched to other brands and all my issues are gone. It does not matter if I am on a PC or Mac, these drives are a huge waste of time and money. Once I factor in the wasted time and lost data, a $5 savings on one of these has turned into a $50 loss. Do yourself a favor and buy another brand.

2 out of 5 eggsUnrealiable

This review is from: ADATA DashDrive Series UV128 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Black/Yellow (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: - Cheap. Great for small and minimal use
- Super fast speeds

Cons: -get corrupted way too fast. Removing it safely
-the drive becomes unreadable and you lose your data
-unreliable and never know if you just ejected from the computer and it failed

Other Thoughts: - Contacted ADATA support, they gave told me to use a tool to repair my drive from being unrecognizable, it worked, but what's the point of repairing it if the drive is not unreliable and I going to lose my data each time. Then the Flash Drive failed again.
- I use the flash drives heavily and daily. Constantly boot from and re-image PCs. I purchased 7 of different sizes. I have already had 3 fail, 2-16GB and 1-32GB model. If you plan to use it just for small school projects, make sure you have both backups.
- Cannot rely on them if you plan to use the flash drive at a meeting and it doesn't work..
- Sending the Flash Drives back for replacement costs as much as the new ones since they are so cheap, they don't pay for shipping .

- USB 3.0, so much faster than previous USB standards
- I have several of them

Cons: - No LED indicator (what can I say, I really like a visual representation of what the drive is doing)
- I don't have more of them

Other Thoughts: - I would definitely recommend these drives

1 out of 5 eggs3 out of 3 failed within 1 hour

This review is from: ADATA DashDrive Series UV128 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Black/Yellow (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: Slide mechanism is ok. Locks well when USB plug is extended.

Cons: Not very fast, but it doesn't matter what the speed is if they all fail in the first hour. Despite many reviews here saying these were no good, I was sucked into buying 3 of them when Newegg recently offered these is a set of 3 for a special price. All three failed, either immediately (2 of them) or within slightly over 1 hour of use. I will be RMA'ing all three.

Other Thoughts: The first one I opened and reformatted to NTFS so that it would be able to store files on it larger than 4GB. I copied two DVD ISOs to it (from Windoze 7) and then stuck it into one of the USB 3.0 slots on my HTPC (AMD A-450 based, running OpenELEC 5.0.8). I played one of the DVD rips for about 1 hour and a few minutes and then OpenELEC just suddenly stopped, went back to the files menu and declared that the Adata USB stick had been unplugged. (It hadn't been.) I copied off the DVD ISO file from this first thumbdrive and then did a binary file compare with the original rip file that I still had on a hard drive. This found about a zillion differences. NOT GOOD! Attempted the same thing with the other two but in both cases, after formatting to NTFS and copying a DVD rip, the other two were not even recognized when plugged into the USB 3.0 ports on my HTPC. (Strangely, they _were_ recognized when plugged into the USB 2.0 ports on my HTPC, and my Windoze 7 system still had no trouble seeing them in the USB 3.0 sockets.)

I own 10 other USB drives (mostly USB 2.0) from Transcend, Sandisk, Patriot, Kingston, and yes, even Adata, and none of then has ever given me any trouble at all until I got these ones. (My Adata S102 Pro 16GB is 100% reliable.) I short, if you value your data, and/or if you ever plan to actually use these in a USB 3.0 socket other than with Windoze 7... well... I wish you luck. You're gonna need it.

P.S. Flashbench says that these max out at about 42-44MB/sec read speed (for large block sizes) and about 18MB/sec write speed (for large block sizes). Fortunately, there are competing products from other manufacturers that are only a bit more expensive but a LOT faster and almost certainly more reliable. (Adata should be ashamed for even selling these.)

P.P.S. Newegg really needs to fix their feedback system so that we can leave a zero-star ratings on products like these.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks very well!

This review is from: ADATA DashDrive Series UV128 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Black/Yellow (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: I use these to play .mpg files on a TV. Runs for hundreds of hours without a problem. Use as USB drive to run pfsense firewall and works without a problem. Files copy at 10 MB/s to drive. I will buy more of these more in the future.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product Great Price

This review is from: ADATA DashDrive Series UV128 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Black/Yellow (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: Insane price for 3.. THREE, USB 3.0 thumby drives. They may not have the most appealing design or construct, but they get the job done. I just wanted a few small, cheap, and reasonably sturdy drives to share some pictures to the family for the holidays. These will get it done!

Cons: Not really. I guess no water protection since nothing covers the tip of the drive even when it's returned to it's "inside" position... but maybe I am wrong?

Other Thoughts: Would totally recommend to any nerds or non-nerds looking for a few cheap USB Flash Drives. 3 16GB USB 3.0 drives for this price is better then anything you will find in any stores or other sites.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after about 10 minutes

This review is from: ADATA DashDrive Series UV128 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Black/Yellow (AUV128-16G-RBY)

Pros: None

Cons: Failed on the first day

Other Thoughts: Formatted it to NTFS and proceeded to copy about 250MB worth of files to it. It got stuck near the end of the copy and windows came back that it could no longer recognize the device.

I see these are on sale right now, save yourself the trouble and do NOT buy these.
