DashDrive™ UV100 Slim Bevelled USB Flash Drive

The latest slim profile USB Flash drive, the DashDrive™ UV100, expands the wide range of portable data storage options available.

On-the-Go Style

The drive incorporates the capless design that has proved to be such a successful and popular feature of ADATA Flash drives, eliminating the risk of cap loss. An integral strap hole makes the drive easy to carry on a lanyard or keychain. For the fashion-conscious, the drive boasts a diamond-cut bevel exterior, allowing owners to express their unique personal style. However, the key feature of the product may well be its highly competitive price point, which will make the UV100 an ideal option for those who use Flash drives on a daily basis and are looking for a highly portable backup drive.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Large capacity and fast enough for what I need.

Cons: A little slow, but it's not important for my use.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for the single purpose of making a recovery drive for my laptop before removing Windows to install Ubuntu. The setup was fast enough, and it's been in storage ever since, so I can reinstall Windows if the need ever comes up.

1 out of 5 eggsA not so great flash drive

Pros: - price
- physical size
- color options
- weight (very light)

Cons: - slow --- very slow
- poor construction
- failure rate

Other Thoughts: on the positive side, these were inexoensive, so I could accord to provide coworkers with a drive of relevant data for less cost than normal. The variation in color was helpful to code for what data each was storing,. these drivese are nice and small, don't take up much room in the go bag.

On the negative side, of the 9 drives I purhcased, after nearly a year, 2 are no longer serviceable and will not mount under any circumstances. (these drives were never abused - both of the 2 non-functional devices remained in my personal possession the entire length of ownership - only riding in a padded laptop bag.

the Tip of the USB connector is made of plastic that is quite easily deformed, making insertion difficult without trying to mold the tip back into shape.

the biggest issue for me, however, was the speed. these devices are slow as molasses - forget about it with anything that requires any, even moderate, sustained speed. For instance, I regularly record a 2 track audio streak 44.1k/24bit (this would be approx 258m/sec

I use USB thumb drives to record uncompressed 2 track 44.1k/24 bit WAV files directly from my live mixing console to the drive. this requires a sustained throughput of 258.5k/sec. Or 15.14MB/min. these drives cannot handle this - constant dropout from failure to sustain pace, and since this is a linear take, there is nothing of value left,

(bear in mind, I don't bargain hunt flash drives for critical applications. for anything other than "rehearsal" cuts, I use USB 3.0 drives with advertised read/write rates, however, witha minimal load such as this, even the 512Mb USB 1 drives from 2001 that I have in piles in my desk drawer (like Im sure most computer people have) work perfectly for the above application. Quite disappointed, to say the least. No other drive that I've encountered has been unable to perform.

I suppose if you just need an inexpensive throw-away drive to make a second-copy of something, you could take a chance with these. as it stands, I still have 2 of my original 9 in the packaging that I imagine I'll ever use. I keep accumulating 4 and 8gb drives others leave behind that I reformat and get more mileage out of...

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for every day use.

Pros: Good size
Look pretty decent
Very light
Transfer speeds are what you would expect for USB 2.0.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I got these in a 3-pack for just about $20. Thats an excellent price. You might wonder what on earth you will need with that many, but I have one to my parents and the other two I have for general use like moving many folders around the 10 computers we have. I would definitely buy again.

You might worry about them being plastic, but so far they have been extremely solid and I have no worry about them breaking.
