1 out of 5 eggsDidn't Work or DOA if we say so.

Pros: None for me.

Cons: DOA, and as per policy I cannot return I am tad late few days.

Other Thoughts: Please please test even a so well time tested item before you trust like me and sit on it to loose.

2 out of 5 eggsStill Troublesome RMA

Pros: This is an update to the last review.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Patriot finally decided to send back a replacement module. Will repost if RAM is also DOA. I would probably stick with Kingston and Crucial with future purchases. Never had to work this hard to RMA a bad Kingston module.

I suspect the strategy used at Patriot is to only spot check their "value" RAMs to boost profit. If an item is DOA, then blame the problem on the shipper.

1 out of 5 eggsLousy RMA!

Pros: NONE.

Cons: Memory DOA. No POST. Retested with Crucial and Kingston RAMs. No problem.

Patriot RAM still sealed in package, so my guess is poor quality control. Got an RMA # from Patriot. Took to post office to mail from S Cal to N Cal. Lady at the post office said there will be a shipping surcharge since the package cannot go thru an automated reader.

Finally was able to contact RMA dept after ten days of "leaving messages" at Patriot. Person at RMA dept said module had four damaged ICs. Wow, perhaps that's why it was DOA!

I was told that the memory would not be replaced by Patriot even though it had lifetime warranty! Patriot is now claiming that the memory was damaged during shipping, and the burden of proof (was not bad prior to shipping) was on me.

Other Thoughts: I've had one Kingston DDR2 module that would fail during extended stress testing. Kingston promptly replaced with a better module at no cost.

Patriot may make OK memory, but my hands-on experience shows a lack of QA going out the door. And be sure to buy extra insurance when you return the DOA memory. This company will try to wiggle out of the warranty by claiming that item was damaged during shipping.

Well, why would I return a perfectly good working module? I'm seriously considering forwarding this to the CA attorney general office.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Memory

Pros: 1st module DOA. Possible lack of quality control.

2nd module comes with Liberty ICs. Stable at DDR2 846 with 1.8V and 5-5-5-15 timing.

3rd module comes with Hynix ICs. Stable at DDR2 917 with 1.8V and 5-5-5-15 timing.

These are JEDEC RAM. Should be compatible with many OEM boards.

Cons: Possible DOA memory. I'm not sure if each module is tested prior to shipping. Patriot is good with RMA, but I think they should pay for shipping if RAM is DOA.

Other Thoughts: These are probably JEDEC DDR2 800. The manufacturing technique for DDR2 is so good that most DDR2 667 modules will run at DDR2 800. The Hynix ICs may even be able to run at DDR2 1066 with 2.0V.

These chips run cool, but it's also a good idea to have a little airflow over the module for maximum longevity. Would buy more if there's another rebate promo.

4 out of 5 eggsYMMV

Pros: No errors in 36 hours of testing With MemTest86+ v. 3.5a, even when overclocked from PC5300 to PC6400 speed at normal 1.8V.

Cons: None for my sample.

Other Thoughts: Your results may differ because Patriot uses different brands of chips for these modules. I was lucky and received one with Hynix chips, but the original product photo at Newegg showed Spectek (Micron's secondary brand) chips, while the current photo shows Patriot chips. I would have given a 5-egg rating if this memory always came with Hynix or other name brand chips.

1 out of 5 eggsLost in Shipping!!!

Pros: Normally I would have to say I have been very pleased with the products and the shipping from NewEgg. I have purchased this item before and was very happy with the price and performance of the product.

Cons: Shipment was lost at some point along the way, it took almost 30 days for the replacement memory stick to show up, and then it ended up being defective. By the time I called to get an RMA, customer sevice tried to tell me that the item was over the 30-day NewEgg exchange policy, needless to say I lost it with the customer service person!!!

Other Thoughts: The so called free shipping on small items like this is what's known as the eggsaver shipping method, it ships out by DHL, and then it gets handed off to the United States Post Office, its not really free if the item never shows up!!!
