1 out of 5 eggsNot the Best Choice

Pros: It's an SSD! Way faster than a spin-up drive.

Cons: No support from Patriot!
No firmware updates!
No trim support!

Other Thoughts: This was my first SSD purchase (DEC. 09) and I really should have done my homework before jumping on board. I'm not allowed to mention the competition but that other "three letter SSD manufacturer" puts out a better product.

This drive died recently. I sent Patriot an email requesting a technical reference number in order to process my RMA. That was two days ago and I still don't have a response.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm sorry to hear that your drive failed on you. When contacting us via e-mail, please allow 2 business days for us to get to your response. All e-mails will be answered in the order they are received.

Sincere Regards,
Patriot Memory Support Team

2 out of 5 eggsMeh...

Pros: Quiet. Easy install.

Cons: Where do I begin? No TRIM tool available (according to patriot tech support), and while trying to find said tool on the site, took WAY too long and ended up calling. Worked fine for a few months, but no trim? Really? Freezes my comp when opening heavy apps (Flash, etc), while installing anything, computer randomly freezes at times or restarts at random (right after freezing).

Other Thoughts: I think I jumped on the SSD bandwagon a little early. The read/write numbers are what I want (obviously), but this drive def does NOT perform as advertised. I keep my computer clean, drives maintained, registry in check, etc. It's extremely obnoxious to have it die whenever I do anything requiring access to the drive.

Hopefully the Torq series does what it's supposed to, and combined with the trim support on win7 keep these running at speeds that they're supposed to. It really shouldn't be THIS difficult keeping these things optimized.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We have released a firmware update for PS-100 that addresses some stability issues. Furthermore we will be releasing a firmware update that allows the drive to support Trim within the next few weeks. Please don't hesitate to contact support@patriotmem.com.

Regards,
Patriot Memory Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for me, but no Firmware is right

Pros: Worked great for me, I have a Raid zero. I would recommend that you reset your BIOS to factory defaults before using. Certain settings that work for standard drives don't work for these and that's why many of you can't boot up.

Cons: No trim tool and no firmware updates. That's just sad and wrong. This is an abandoned drive and is no longer supported (never was really) so I wouldn't buy this version if I were you.

Other Thoughts: No support:

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Reiliability

Pros: A good fast SSD for the price!

Cons: Not very reliable.

Other Thoughts: I purchase this device in 11/2008, in 11/2009 it died and would not load an OS. I did an RMA on it back to Patriot Memory which cost me $30.00 in shipping fees. Two weeks later my drive arrived, I installed it, ran it for 1 week and it failed. I do not want to pay another $30.00 just to get it replaced again, so I spent $60.00 on a new regular hard drive instead.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Even for our older SSD drives these are quite unusual to fail in such a short amount of time. If your purchased the drive 11/08, you warranty should uphold until 11/10. Please don't hesitate to contact support@patriotmem.com to troubleshoot the issue. We would like to take a look at your system specs and see if there is anything we can do for you.

Regards,
Patriot Mem Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsNo trim utility - Patriot guy lied

Pros: quiet, instant on. Windows 7 much happier than Vista using this drive.

Cons: No trim tool - the TRIM is only an option on TOQX drives. No firmware update. Not really faster than the 7200RPM drive I replaced it with.

Could not format it it exFAT - NTFS adds write penalty

5 out of 5 eggsLove this thing

Pros: Bought this in Nov 08, and have not had an issue with this yet. Superfast compared to all my other drives.

I only load my OS and the current game I am playing. Otherwise, I keep this drive clean.

Cons: Could be cheaper. Paid $229 for it a year ago, would have expected it to drop alot more than it has.

Other Thoughts: I dont know the difference between all the SSDs out there, but overall, this thing works great for everything I do.

1 out of 5 eggsdead after 10 months

Pros: Fast when it arrived

Cons: Became slower and slower from the beginning. Died after 10 months. Fortunately, I had a recent norton ghost image.

Other Thoughts: Go with Oz for a bit more. They at least have a custom TRIM like .exe file to run from the desktop. Sadly purchased this drive because SSDs were "more reliable."

Manufacturer Response:

Dear UnhappyCamper
Thank you for purchasing Patriot Memory products! I'm sorry the drive slowed down a bit on you but the good news is that we also have a tool to speed the drive back up! We call it our Wiper tool and it functions similar to TRIM. You can find the tool on our website under downloads.

2 out of 5 eggsInconsistent

Pros: Fast, when it wants to be - which is about 60-70% of the time.

Cons: An inconsistent hard drive:
Poor controller choice.
Terrible performance per dollar per uptime of performance.

Sometimes (30-40%) of HD uptime, the SSD lags a huge amount on Vista. Done maximum amount of tweaks, tried different write file sizes and to no avail. Can be a fast drive most of the time but can be a huge slug.

One example with the hard drive it can take Vista around 3-5 seconds to load one day. Next day, nothings really changed, few more emails, programming scripts etc and then Vista can take around a minute to load.

This happens with a few other things to.

Other Thoughts: OCZ Vertex > This - $/GB
X-25s > All for performance.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsHard drive dors't work

Pros: fast for large file transfer. I use it as an external usb HD, since it did not work on my Laptop.

Cons: Does not work at all on a VAIO SZ340p. The system will just hang during the boot process and will not boot at all. I tried contacting Patriot support several times, but they never replied. I guess you'll be better off with an Intel or Samsung drive.

Other Thoughts: if you want a fancy external drive this may work for you.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid, fast

Pros: Good speed for the price. Metal housing. Used 24x7 with no probs.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I haven't experienced any pauses or freezes. My slow machine still gets 125MB read, my friend's faster machine gets 135. It's the machine that is limiting it.
