1 out of 5 eggsSSDs Die Fast!

Pros: Blazing Fast
Does everything the way it is described

Cons: Drive stopped working about 6 months after being used, meaning the bios stopped picking up the drive apparently all my data is gone including a program I had been writing on it thought that these SSDs last LONGER than the "old" hardrive. Contacted there tech support the only way to restore the drive is to update the firmware which WILL slow down the drive significantly and will wipe all your data so each time it dies you have to do this I would say very unreliable.

Other Thoughts: Never buying an SSD again it seems that they are all linked with die fast issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. Please rest assured that Patriot Memory has been in business for over 25 years, we stand by our products completely. Please don't hesitate to contact us at if the firmware upgrade fails to alleviate any longterm issues as I am confident it will.

Thank You for choosing Patriot Memory.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Drive

Pros: This drive fills all the functions that a SSD is supposed to fill. Extremely snappy loading of all programs including OS startup, and of course it is also completely silent.

The 10 year warranty was the deal breaker that removed any doubts or hesitations I had about going with the new SSD technology. That and Windows 7 support of TRIM.

Cons: 2.5 to 3.5 tray was the correct width but it was not long enough to fit the lower HD tray in my Antec P183, instead I just had to mount on the front holes with the screws and use some double sided tape to support the back, not really a big problem.

Other Thoughts: There was some confusion before as NewEgg listed this drive to have a 128 mb cache, and at the time this was also listed on the Patriot website under their product overview, but if you check the detailed specifications it is and always has been correctly listed as 64 mb.

If you are looking for the Patriot Torqx with the 128 mb cache you can find it on NewEgg for about the same price as this drive, as the M28 model, however I believe it uses a Samsung controller, where this drive uses the Indilinx barefoot controller.

You may gain some write performance with the 128 mb cache, but I have heard rave reviews for the Indilinx controller, and not the greatest things have been said about Samsung controllers.

IMO i'll take the smaller cache with a more reputable controller and sleep well at night. To the people who gave this 1 egg for the cache thing, maybe do some research before you spend 400 bucks.

4 out of 5 eggsSeems good, jury still out

Pros: Seems fast, very quiet - replacing some very loud WD Velociraptors so in that regard its MUCH better.

Cons: im not completely blown away by the speed like some others were here. I am running vista 64bit and its slightly faster to boot up than my old WD VelociRaptor 300's. Maybe Win7 is better at running these SSDs ?

Other Thoughts: HDTune Benchmarks this drive at 205 MBPS max and 190 min, which is good. Old WD Velociraptor BMs at 107MBPS min and 125 max. So maybe i just haven't used it enough to see the improvements. I will probably purchase another for my macbook pro.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperfast!

Pros: Super fast boot-up of PC (now it's the bios that's holding up the boot process!) Includes 3.5" drive adaptor, though it might not work for everyone. Free Game included!

Cons: 3.5" adaptor didn't quite work in my computer case, price of course...

Other Thoughts: Almost instant loading of Windows 7 (64-bit). Run cool, and quite. Had to downgrade my nVidia SATA drivers to Microsoft's so that I can run wiper utility.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Drive

Pros: Seems fast, I haven't done any benchmarking yet. Put it in a iMac and have no complaints so far. Our iMacs keep killing their hdds because of heat and we are hoping this solves the problem. So far it seems considerably cooler.

Cons: The adapter that comes with it does not work for the iMac. We purchased a ICYDOCK 2.5" to 3.5" converter and it fits perfect. Keeps it a bit cooler too I would imagine.

Other Thoughts: Its a big cost but so is losing a years worth of data or spending a few days trying to recover it because of a failed hard drive. We put these in the few iMacs we have in the office (everyone else is on mac pros) and everyone who has them seems to be happy.

1 out of 5 eggsDidnt work so good

Pros: I think this drive has potential. Maybe it just wasn't compatible.

Cons: It seemed fast when I was transferring my system onto the drive. Then after I booted my machine, the performance seemed to disappear rapidly. It stuttered awfully whenever I did anything. I looked at the patriot website. Maybe there's a firmware update? There is one, but I can't find any way to determine what the current firmware version is on my drive, and to update the firmware requires me to lose all the data on the drive! OK what else - there a tool that is supposed to restore drive performance - but they make a note that you might lose all your data if you run it, what good is that? So then I gave up and tried to image my system back to the old hard drive and...IT WONT WORK! Tried every major image tool on the market and NONE of them would work on the drive! I eventually had to rebuild my system from scratch. What a nightmare.

Other Thoughts: I saw some things on the web that said that maybe the drive is not compatible with all SATA controllers. I will never understand vendors that invest millions in developing things like this and then don't take the extra tme to make software tools that work properly. What good is a "defrag" tool that risks damaging your data? Why would I want to unnecessarily run a firmware update that delete all my data, just cuz your tool won't tell me the current version?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for buying Patriot Memory. Let me apologize for the problems you have had and offer some insight. SSD's require some special tweaking and configurations under XP to deter stuttering. We have a very active community of users and technical support staff on our support forums that help new SSD users like yourself get everything setup right!
Also, when you first boot up your computer and the BIOS detects the drive, it shows it's current firmware revision next to the drive name for PC users.
Lastly, our Wiper tool does restore drive performance under many circumstances and for liability reasons we have to say that it is possible to lose your data. It is possible but I haven't heard of it happening yet!
I hope this sheds some light on the topic and restores some of your faith in our products!
