2 out of 5 eggsPatriot..... not pleased

Pros: The drive was wonderful and extremely fast. Was, being the key word.

Cons: I left this SSD unplugged in my PC for a good while and when I lost two hard drives to a very aggressive virus I used the drive as it was originally intended for my OS. Unfortunately it was not even 3 days of use that I came across some issues. My SSD failed and I had to reinstall windows so I went to that and I saw my SSD that didn't register in BIOS was seen in the options for installation disc. So I then formatted the drive through windows and reinstalled windows on it. It didn't last a few hours until it didn't work again. Then I decided to load my OS on a good old fashioned hard drive and I have had no issues once more.

Other Thoughts: I think it would be a great hard drive if it actually had the 1 million hour life.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsAmazing Little Drive- the Sequel

Pros: See my original review from 11/21/09. Very impressive performance (for 6 months).

Cons: Died after 6 months in service.

Other Thoughts: Swapped it under warranty for another Torqx M28. Maybe the new firmware will enhance reliability. Would have purchased an Intel X25-M 80GB on sale from Newegg if I could have gotten my money back!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear E Guy,

Thank You for choosing Patriot Memory. We are sorry for any inconveneince this may have caused you. We do recommend flashing the drive to the latest firmware because it will offer trim support. Furthermore, please don't hesitate to contact support@patriotmem.com to troubleshoot any issues or questions you may have.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive! (at least mine is)

Pros: I was a little worried about this, but the drive was on sale locally (sorry newegg... but you'll be getting more of my money soon too). Read the reviews here and was even more worried... luckily either the negative reviews were old/outdated, or were the result of user error or a bad production run early on.

If you follow some very simple recommendations (there are many on the patriot forums for the drive, and SSD's in general), you can not only make your PC fly - but the speeds have not (in my case at least) changed whatsoever. Between TRIM and the built-in GC, I have no problems with this drive, and am going to pick up a second one for my laptop this week.

Cons: As with all SSD's - the price (but then again early adopters always pay a premium). I paid about $70 less than the current price at a local retailer's sale - but even at $275 it's not THAT overpriced... every time I think some new video card or drive is expensive I just look at my $6K plasma TV that is garbage compared to what is now available for under $1K... but then again I've had it for almost 6 years now. :)

Other Thoughts: People have said that TRIM is not supported (including an either misinformed CSR - or the post was from several months ago). The most recent firmware for these drives DOES support TRIM. However, if you're not running Windows 7 - then it doesn't matter anyway. By careful optimization of Windows and proper placement of logs, temp directories, etc... on a 'spinner' and leaving an optimized system/boot on the SSD - you should never have a slowdown or data loss for the life of your whole computer (i.e. it should go more than 5-6 years with daily use/abuse).

One other tip - no matter how tempted you might be - do NOT run disk benchmarks with write turned on... it will be writing garbage many times to the entire drive... thus will indeed shorten it's life. Normal use shouldn't ever be a problem on an SSD however.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: + Fantastic speed
+ Great access times

Cons: - Expensive
- On the lower end of the capacity range

Other Thoughts: Great SSD to use as a boot drive. While it doesn't have native support for TRIM, the built-in garbage collecting works just as well (if you know how it works). All I do is log out of Win7 once or twice a week for about an hour (generally when the computer isn't going to be used) and read/write speeds return to stock rates.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst SSD

Pros: Fast, very fast, puts traditional hard drives to shame. Good price compared to other SSD's

Cons: Still expensive, has low storage capacity, and it's MLC. In addition, I have doubts about how long this thing will last. Had it for about two months now, and just last week my windows 7 laptop scheduled a random disk check, which doesn't bode well for the future. Heard that MLC's can wear out quite quickly compared to SLC's. Nevertheless, taking a wait and see attitude and hoping for the best.

Other Thoughts: Cannot wait until SLC's get down to the price level of MLC's.

1 out of 5 eggsCAUTION--NO SUPPORT!!

Pros: Small, quiet, etc.

Cons: Has the Samsung controller. Drive not supported with utilities by Patriot. TRIM not supported in Win 7. Here is the verbatim response from Patriot support after I queried them about a separate utility to "collect the garbage" on the drive and to confirm that using the standard Windows defrag is a no-no with the drive: "That is correct but the type of controller the M28 uses it does not support the utilities we offer." So Patriot sells an SSD but doesn't make utilities to support their own product? Very, very disappointed.

Other Thoughts: I don't blame NEWEGG--I should have not "blindly" taken MaximumPC's recommendation to get a Patriot SSD without doing my own homework. Live and learn...and I hope you learn from my mistake.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Although the drive does not support Trim, we are very confident in it's reliability. Should you experience any technical issues with your drive in the future please do not hesitate to contact support@patriotmem.com.

Kind Regards,
Patriot Memory Support Team

3 out of 5 eggsHmmmm

Pros: Pretty fast. Works good in RAID, native healing. Compatibility across a wide spectrum of machines.

Cons: There are much faster drives for the money. *NO* firmware updates are going to be released for this device. If you are seeking the advantages of better firmware, then Patriot themselves recommends you buy the non m28 Torq. Customers who purchased these, including myself (3 of them) will be disappointed in the performance compared to previous generations. With on Board raid 0 and 3 drives, its barely scratches 250 Sustained read (780i), slightly faster with 3ware at 280-320. Burst Read is also slow.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed in this product, and Patriot has been incredibly non forthcoming about these drives on their forums. Yes they are very compatible drives. But they are not for the Enthusiast.

5 out of 5 eggsBest 64gb SSD

Pros: Performance is as promised, this drive has been the single greatest hardware upgrade for overall system improvement. I have had it for a month, mainly gaming and surfing. With Oblivion loaded on here, load times in the game are almost instant, with an hd 4650 video card and a Quad core with 4gb ram. Start up and shut down times are better although i have noticed minimal speed degradation the more i use and fill the drive, primarily with start up and shut down times which is expected.

Cons: Needs trim support

Other Thoughts: Pretty much just slide it in and enjoy the ride!!

1 out of 5 eggsno trim

Pros: none

Cons: No trim, actual speed slower than my HHD raid, no software utilities, no firmware utilities.

Other Thoughts: My raid with 2 1 gig western green with 64 cache is faster than this drive.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Although we do have firmware updates released for this drive, we feel this drive should be as fast as most comparable SSD drives on the market. It should definitely be faster than any older HDD drive. Please don't hesitate to contact support@patriotmem.com or visit our forums to get any potential issue troubleshooted.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, But Misleading

Pros: Nice and fast
cheap (for an SSD)
reliable
I love the 10-year warranty.

Cons: No Windows 7 TRIM support
No firmware updates

Other Thoughts: Not quite what I thought it was. This drive has the Samsung SSD controller, and not Indilinx like the regular Patriot Torqx drives. Still, it's fast and so far has worked great.
