3 out of 5 eggsgood performance but suspect build

Pros: Fast read and write. Works very well. Cheap

Cons: I bought two of these. One for my primary camera and the other for my underwater camera. Both chips have split along the plastic casing in both cameras. I use my primary camera very heavily, but my waterproof camera I only use sporadically (IE Snow, Rain, in the pool). Yet both chips have cracked casings. I take care of my things and these were not abused so I am quite surprised that this happened within a few months of ownership.

Other Thoughts: Cheap and has good performance, but the lousy casing quality on both of these chips would lead me to pick another chip. If the plastic casings on both chips didn't crack I would have given the chips 5 stars.

2 out of 5 eggsFlimsy case self destructed

Pros: Worked great in my Raspberry Pi for a while...

Cons: After a month or so of use with only occasional removal and reinsertion into my Raspberry Pi and/or my laptop for writing, it stopped working. I had not removed it from the Pi for weeks when it suddenly stopped working. When I removed it, I noticed the tip was bowed upward, with the contacts curved in a shallow "U" shape. Apparently the chassis was too flimsy to be used for an extended period of time.

Other Thoughts: I've bought several Patriot devices in the past and never had any complaints or problems with them. I'm frankly a bit surprised at this particular failure.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for RPi use

Pros: Fast read/write speed
Lots of room

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm using this in a Raspberry Pi. My knowledge of linux isn't too great, so I've had to write the original OS onto the SD card several times. Each time the write speed was almost always at 10MB/s which gets me up and running again in no time.

1 out of 5 eggsLiking it is a lottery.

Pros: It's cheap and works pretty well for transferring files from PC to PC.

Cons: I have an older LX with a white tab and serial "PSF8GSDHC10-PC1" and works great, no problems. I liked it so much I bought a second one for my raspberry pi and got a yellow tab one ("PSF8GSDHC10-PC") and it's not so good. I'm only getting about 7.5MB/sec transfer speeds which isn't the minimum for class 10 speeds. Plus it doesn't work in all my devices that accepts a SDHC card. My sandisk USB card read works fine, my built in lenovo laptop SD reader has problems, it doesn't work with the Raspberry Pi. It's currently in my 3DS, I hope it doesn't die.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm sorry to hear that you experienced some performance issues with our SDHC card. Please send me an e-mail and we'll be glad to further look into the issue.

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory!

2 out of 5 eggsNot as good anymore

Pros: Very cheap after rebate. Meets class 10 specs.

Cons: I got the newer yellow protect tab version and it is slower than the older white tab version that I also have. The white tab exceeded class 10 and was very fast, while this newer yellow tab version barely meets class 10. It is significantly slower.

Also this yellow write protect tab version seems to be less durable physically. The front left corner broke inside my camera, and now the card is starting to separate from the front. The card still works but I'm not using the card in anything expensive anymore. My older white version is still going strong.

Other Thoughts: Unless it's a really good price, skip this and go with the reputable brands. They are much faster and have much better warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsNot a class 10. Class 4 ! Not a class 10.

Pros: None that I can think of.

Cons: Like many others have found out this is a class 4 card.
Pitiful write speed of 4.54.

Test it with H2testw yourself.
Patriot
Writing speed: 4.54 MByte/s
Reading speed: 17.7 MByte/s

Other Thoughts: Many many people on the internet have recorded the same low speed for this card. Is Patriot rebranding class 4 cards at class 10 to make more money? This is not acceptable.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear DancingPotato,

I regret to hear that you had some issues getting this card to achieve the class 10 speeds. Please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll be glad to look into the issue.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Card but BEWARE REBATE

Pros: great card. fast speeds

Cons: BEWARE - they are refusing to honor the rebate because the upc wasn't affixed to the form in the right spot. petty, but to be expected from rebate centers contracted to pay out as few claims as possible.

4 out of 5 eggsInexpensive

Pros: * Very inexpensive, after coupon code and rebate

Cons: * Significantly slower than the other Class 10 cards that I have

Other Thoughts: I get about 14MB/s reads and 9-10MB/s writes on the card that I got. I'm not sure about the exact rules for Class 10 qualification, but I think you need to be able to get at least 10MB/s sustained write speeds; the sustained write speeds that I get are close to, but nevertheless slower than 10MB/s. In fact, all my other Class 10 cards exceed 10MB/s write by a healthy margin.

This is fast enough, however, to record 1080p video on my T2i (but that nominally only requires a Class 6 card).

The reviews here also seem to indicate a lot of variability of quality; some units are fine, while others seem to be disastrously bad. So I guess I'm lucky to get one that wasn't that bad. That having been said, I'll probably relegate this card to non-essential duties,

4 out of 5 eggsAnother SDHC flash card for my camera

Pros: I just bought one with $10 rebate today. I hope it will last for at least a year. I do not expect much for a $5 SDHC flash card.

Cons: don't know yet

Amazed when used on my Nikon D40X

5 out of 5 eggs
new Class 10 series of SDHC meaning it can write 10MB/s (and it does) and reasonable price.

A dud

1 out of 5 eggs
Write errors, definitely not a Class 10
