The Patriot Torqx TRB Solid-State Drive (SSD) is a great way to enhance the performance of your computer: they offer faster boot and application load times as well as improved durability and silent operation. Torqx TRB drives are more durable than traditional hard drives and are ready for the rough and tumble world of every day computing. With read times of up to 245MB/s and write times of 60MB/s (32GB), Torqx TRB brings a turbo charge of performance to your system.

  • newegg Performance The Patriot Torqx TRB series SSD is designed around the latest generation controller from JMicron. With a controller level cache of 64MB DDR2, the Torqx TRB series provides stutter-free performance and offers speeds of up to 245MB/s Read and up to 60MB/s Write (32GB).
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to enhanced performance, a Torqx TRB SSD upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability.
  • newegg Trim Support Patriot Torqx TRB SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

2 out of 5 eggsOrdered in March 2011, died in September of 2012

Pros: I bought this product for the price. I needed a small drive for the OS on my home server. 32 GB was plenty. Everyone talked about SSD's being reliable, low power. Since the disk was primarily just getting an OS, I jumped on board. The reviews were good, and the price was right, so I picked it up to the cart. Installed Linux, and my server would boot in 10 seconds. The drive was fast (though it was a Fedora Minimal Install).

Cons: Died way before it's prime. I bought 2 WD Green 2TB drives to go in this box as well, and both of those are still fine.

Other Thoughts: I was happy with the drive until it died. I have not yet attempted to contact Patriot, but I figure since it's more than a year old I'm probably on my own.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear swankcr,

I'm sorry to hear that you had some issues with our SSD. Please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll be glad to assist you in resolving your issue. Our Torqx TRB carries a 3 year warranty.

Kind Regards,
Patriot Memory Customer Support

3 out of 5 eggsIntermittently awesome

Pros: This drive is next to perfect for what it is. Everything is present with this drive: price point, performance, and capacity.

This drive, for me, was fairly easy to set up, and doesn't require too much continued maintenance since it has TRIM and a decent controller.

Something not a lot of reviews touch on is the looks of this drive. A nice silver finish is present, with seemingly quality construction. The branding sticker is actually on straight and centered, which is a nice touch.

The price seems to come down frequently on this type of memory/storage (whatever you want to classify the flash chips as), so if you don't like the 74.99 or whatever, just give it a week or two.

Capacity is fine. 32GB is PLENTY of room for a Windows 7 64-bit install with EVERY update so far. With a few tweaks, I got everything on there with 10GB left. This doesn't include the held back capacity for over-provisioning. Don't go crazy disabling and removing things, but this drive has plenty of ro

Cons: I don't know if it's the controller, just a trait of this drive, or what, but I have already had one of these drives go bad, and now its replacement is showing symptoms of failure. I keep having to reset the CMOS to get the BIOS to see this drive. Otherwise it will say "missing operating system" because the drive can't be detected. It doesn't seem to be limited to JUST this drive, or to Patriot branded drives, though, which is why it gets a 3 egg rating despite my experience.

In its defense, this only happens to me when the computer is "improperly" shut down. When it is shut down in Windows, it performs fine. When this drive works, it's admirable in its performance. When this drive checks out, it does so suddenly and you're out a couple weeks and some decent money for a replacement (my RMA took two weeks, and I lost business in the long run solely due to this drive failing). I'm on my second one, and kind of tip-toeing through the tulips with it.

Other Thoughts: This could possibly be a defect in SSD/OS communication, SSD manufacturing, controller, the list is seemingly limitless. I have turned off all sleep of any kind, which is a tip from an OCZ forum, thought it wouldn't hurt to apply to this drive. Be sure to have BIOS updated, and SSD firmware updated to get optimum results. Offload user files to a mechanical drive, don't be too concerned with writes on these SSDs, they can handle it now and Windows 7 is mostly optimized for them from the start, anyway. Good luck, and as with any "new" technology, your mileage may vary.

4 out of 5 eggsvary fast

Cons: did not come with 2.5 to 3.5 brackets to fit in my desttop.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Fast read speeds
Relatively cheap

Cons: It doesn't come with a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket, but the description doesn't say it comes with one, so no reduction.

No rating reduction since it's clearly stated in the description:
Only 60MB/s write speed is a little slow (but still installed Win7HP in about the same time as installing it on the SATA 7200rpm hard drive)

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a 500GB hard drive in my HTPC. The HTPC is connected by 1Gbps LAN to my file server for Music, Recorded TV, etc so I didn't need the 500GB. I wanted a faster boot for turning on the HTPC for use. This SSD works fantastic. I was looking for something with fast read speeds, between 20-40GB in size, and cheap. This fit the bill, and the 60MB/s write didn't bother me since the majority of what I'd doing was reading anyway.

I streamlined my Windows 7 to get rid of language files, help documents, tablet input support, and printer drivers, and a few other randoms. Overall I saved about 2GB. I've installed Power DVD 10, iMon (for my HTPC case's front display), Netflix Media Center Add-on, and all the latest updates, and still have around 10GB of space left.

Excellent drive for an HTPC, or thin client. Does exactly what it says it will do, if you read the specs, you get what it says it will do.

2 out of 5 eggsNot impressed

Pros: Boot time

Cons: The first time I shut down after Installing the OS, the Motherboard would not detect the SSD. Had to open the case and power cycle the SSD for it to detect. Tested the mobo SATA port and the SATA cable and they are both good. This happened 3 or 4 times before I just gave up and took it out.

Does poorly in my new computer. See comments

Other Thoughts: got this for a brand new build:
AMD 1075T X6
16 GB Gskill 1333 RAM
HD Radeon 6850

... put my OS onto this SSD and used my old HD as storage space. The computer boots up super fast, but dont notice any change other than that.

I wouldn't recommend this for a top quality build unless you want to pay $90 to boot 10 seconds faster. When your system is already fast, it doesn't do much.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We regret to hear that you've had some an issue with our drive. To troubleshoot the issue, please don't hesitate to contact and one of our knowledgeable reps will be glad to assist you. If it is determined an RMA is required, we'll be glad to expedite the warranty process.

Sincere Regards,
Patriot Support

5 out of 5 eggsAmazong speed!

Pros: The speed of a SSD is uncanny if you have never used one before. I installed WIN 7 on this, all updates, still have a couple gigs left. Blazing fast boot time.

Cons: The connector placement is poor if you plan on using 2 in a 3.5 bay converter.

Other Thoughts: Don't be reluctant to buy an SSD drive. If for nothing else, get one for your OS.

5 out of 5 eggsNew life for 10 year old computer

Pros: Haven't bench-marked but didn't see the point. Revived a slot A AMD2600 with 1.5gb ram and Windows 7. used a Rosewill RC-212 VIA PCI SATA 1.5G to add Sata to an old machine. Had an old WD 160gb Raptor that worked ok with Win 7, but this ssd makes it this old workhorse fully functional again!

Cons: none yet. this old gaming rig got passed around the family in different places several times and now I have it back 10 yrs later. Nice to see it running well with this SSD. Never thought I would feel this way about a computer.... haha

Other Thoughts: Can't even find drivers for my motherboard supporting Win 7, yet it works like a charm. More proud of these specs than my new rig.

AMD Athlon 2600 Slot A (upgraded this year from 1800 for kicks)
A7N266-E Asus
DDR 333? 1.5 gb 3 sticks (maxed)
6200 Nvidia AGP 256mb
Patriot Torqx TRB 32Gb
Win 7 32 bit ultimate
