A cutting-edge new SSD controller architecture enables the Patriot Torqx 2 to achieve read speeds up to 270MB/s and completely take advantage of the SATA 3.0 Gb/s interface. Write speeds up to 230MB/s ensure quick software installations and creation of large files with the Patriot Torqx 2 for an unmatched computing experience.

  • newegg Cost-effective Performance The Patriot Torqx 2 SSDs are designed and built for cost-effective performance. By leveraging a cutting-edge new SSD controller with 128MB DRAM cache and high-quality 3x-nm NAND flash, the Torqx 2 achieves up to 270MB/s of sequential read speeds and up to 230MB/s of sequential write speeds for a noticeable performance boost with daily computing tasks. For desktops and notebooks lack of SATA 6.0 Gb/s, the Torqx 2 delivers the perfect balance of price and performance. (Based on internal ATTO Disk Benchmark testing.)
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to enhanced performance, a Torqx 2 SSD upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability.
  • newegg Trim Support Patriot Torqx 2 SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

4 out of 5 eggsSSD <3

Pros: FAST FAST FAST! so fast, all my data, read/writes are done wicked quick. all my games load fast on it.

Cons: only 32gb, got it for $60 now the prices are a lot lower... :(

had a problem with it where my graphics card had to be updated and there wasn't enough space on the ssd to hold it so when it updated it said 0bytes left on the ssd so you couldn't watch videos or look at pictures or anything

Other Thoughts: good if you use these in raid but id suggest getting a bigger ssd or using this in an older system for a speed increase

2 out of 5 eggsRotting Drives...

Pros: Initially on par with other SSDs in terms of performance.

Cons: Of about 10 I purchased a year ago, 4 have degraded to the point of being useless and all the others have been replaced as a precaution. Reformatting and read/write testing with drive genius 3 shows inconsistent failure modes. Some have read stalls randomly while others have write stalls. I'm guessing these have a mean time between failure of about a year. If you are still using one of these, you might want to swap it out if it has begun to slow down. 2 of my drives failed with some data loss.

4 out of 5 eggsUltra-fast

Pros: Very fast, boot time ~3 seconds past the BIOS
No lag in drive-intensive usage
Handles everything we can throw at it perfectly

Cons: Isn't the best performance for the price

Other Thoughts: If you can get it on sale, jump on it. It's an SSD, what else can I say.

Pros: Boots quick, inexpensive

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive for a HTPC. I havent had any problems since. Loaded Windows 7 with no prolems and havent thought about it since. I would reccomend this drive and would buy it again.

4 out of 5 eggsVery fast

Pros: Extremely fast. I don't have any raw numbers to back up the speed, but the laptop I put it in reboots in less than 20 seconds now, compared to about a minute or so before.

Cons: It's pretty small and expensive for the size. However, that's not really a "con", as I got what I paid for.

Other Thoughts: I've only had it about two months or so, so I can't make any statement about its long-term reliability. So far though, it's pretty impressive.

1 out of 5 eggsWrite speed degradation

Pros: Inexpensive
Fast at first

Cons: I bought two of these, for use in some older Dell Optiplex GX260 systems, hooked up through a Rosewill SATA-1 PCI adapter, running XP Pro. Using CrystalDiskMark, initially I was getting sequential rates on the order of 120MB/S read (close to the SATA 1 and PCI 33Mhz limit) and 60MB/S write.

After using them for a month or so, I noticed the computers were slowing down. I re-ran CDM and while reads had barely changed at all, write speeds had dropped down to the 12-15MB/S range.

I found a trim utility on the Patriot web site, and after running I was able to get them back to the 35-40MB/S range on writes. But they degrade quickly, I end up having to rerun that utility frequently.

Clearly their block management scheme is not doing a good job of maintaining write speeds.

Both systems are at about 50% drive capacity.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ZFMax,

I'm sorry to hear that you experienced some performance degradation using our Torqx 2. Please don't hesitate to send us an e-mail and we would like to do what we can to resolve this issue.

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory.

4 out of 5 eggsDepends on your Hardware

Pros: Price

Cons: *See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: This is a update of a prior review. I initially bought 2 of these drives and set them up in RAID 0 on a Intel D975XBX MB, using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology RAID Controller. In that set-up they were blazing fast and scored a 7.7 on WEI.
A set them up on a Gigabyte G880-GM MoBo using the onboard RAID, AMD FX4100 Quad-Core CPU, and 8MB's of DDR3 1600Mhz. They are still running well but the WEI scored them at 5.9?
I'm not sure why that is, but it seems like they don't take well to certain hardware RAID systems, or Motherboards. I havent gotten around to doing a speed test, but they still seems like they are running better than a mechanical drive, and I havent had any burps, freezes, or BSOD.
Say be wary of the system you choose to run these in, I also do not recommend running these with Windows XP!
Windows 7 has trim support!
