The Patriot Memory Pyro SE is the perfect choice for those looking to upgrade to get blazingly fast start up times and near instantaneous access to their data. Powered by the latest SandForce SF-2281 processor and utilizing the ultra-fast SATA III 6Gb/s interface, The Pyro SE brings the improved performance of synchronous NAND to the brand offering Performance Users and Gamers the speed advantage they demand.

To ensure the Patriot Memory Pyro SE provides rock-solid performance, technologies like TRIM, DuraClass, and DuraWrite have been included. Offering read/write speeds of 500+ MB/s, the Pyro SE will chew through large file transfers and make even the most demanding applications a smooth experience.

With the Pyro SE, Patriot memory has continued pricing very aggressively to offer one of the best price-per-performance ratios on the market. Backed by Patriot Memory's award winning build quality, the Patriot Memory Pyro SE will deliver one of the most reliable choices in performance class SSDs.

  • newegg TRIM SUPPORT The Pyro SE Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in the latest versions of Windows. It is specifically designed to maintain the performance of the SSD over the lifetime of the drive. The TRIM feature functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg GARBAGE COLLECTION This feature eliminates the need to perform erasure of the whole block prior to every write. The Garbage Collection process accumulates data marked for erase as "Garbage" and perform whole block erase as space reclamation in order to reuse the block. Essentially, Garbage Collection will defragment itself when it’s idle to maintain maximum life of the drive.
  • newegg SANDFORCE DRIVEN Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Pyro SE Series is designed and built to unleash the full potential of the 6Gbps SATA III interface. The Pyro SE pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience.
  • newegg ECC (ERROR CORRECTION CODE) Utilizing ECC paired with RAISE (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements), the Pyro SE delivers an orders-of-magnitude improvement in drive reliability versus today’s best enterprise HDDs and SSDs. The result is single-drive RAID-like protection and recovery from potentially catastrophic flash block failures – all while avoiding the inefficiencies of traditional RAID.
  • newegg HIGH PERFORMANCE IOPS The Pyro SE drive delivers IOPS at up to 85,000 (4K random write)
  • newegg HIGH PERFORMANCE With enterprise-class performance, the Pyro SE 120GB breaks ground with up to 550MB/s Read and 520MB/s write speeds. It’s ready to take on the most intense multimedia applications.

5 out of 5 eggs16 months later... still rocks

Pros: Fast, relatively cheap, compliant with Linux

Cons: No 'cons' I know of.

Other Thoughts: I've been using this drive for well over a year.

Installed it into a Dell Inspiron 1545 to boost its speed. Much of the time, the notebook is in hibernate mode, it always wakes up quickly. Cold boot times, including hunt and peck login, until I get a stable KDE desktop is under 60 seconds. My tablet and my cellphone aren't at all as quick.

Drive has been reliable - I have never seen any error messages, no slow downs, I get smooth activity transferring to/from the SSD.

Would definitely buy another, but I wouldn't get a larger capacity SSD because I rely on Flash media for file storage (the SSD is basically the home for the OS, and any forced location type downloads. 120G for Linux is room enough for roots for 2 distributions (50G each) and a bit left over for a shared home (5G), and a 5G-ish swap.

I use Linux, Kubuntu 12.10, and when I first installed the SSD under 12.04, I enabled the trim support in my fstab with no problems (e.g., for that drive, I added ', discard' immediately after 'noatime').

I readily endorse this model of SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsReally, Really Fast

Pros: Just wanted to give ya'll a long-term review of the Pyro. Originally purchased this for a picky client and her new laptop. Updated firmware first, then applied the drive image to her laptop. Windows 7, 8GB RAM and this Pyro in her laptop. She is in heaven.

Called her last week as it will be a year. She is STILL in heaven. She thinks she is putting the laptop to sleep, but she is actually shutting it down. Laptop boots in about 10 seconds.

No BSOD's, no funny errors. In fact, she says she still fights herself thinking she should defrag, but that's all.

Perfect drive.

Since that sale, I have installed this drive in around 10 other computers, mostly laptops. After applying the most stable firmware, the drives ALWAYS perform flawlessly.

Buying another for my wife's laptop here soon. That statement right there should tell you I'm sold on Patriot and their Pyro drives!

Cons: None, really. Price still hurts a little when I purchase, but that pain goes away when I hand the stopwatch to the client and let them time the boot process on their new machine. Priceless!

Other Thoughts: Always, always, always apply the most stable firmware. This step saves a bottle of aspirin!

5 out of 5 eggsWish I'd gotten a 256G

Pros: Really REALLY quick boots

Cons: It isn't higher capacity...and it won't make coffee

Other Thoughts: I got this drive for two reasons - 1) It was a Shell Shocker at a pretty good price (at the time) and 2) I needed a little breathing room on my laptop as drive space was getting a little scarce. What I got was a laptop (ASUS G72) that was not only more responsive, but would boot in less than a minute compared to the 2+ minutes it used to take to boot up.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast, reliable, works well in RAID 0, well priced at the time.

Cons: None specific to this drive.

Other Thoughts: I have 2 of these in RAID 0 using the controller built onto my motherboard ( ASUS P8P67 pro rev 3.1). I've benchmarked with read speeds over 1GB/s and write speeds just over 900MB/s. I got these at the very end of December 2011 and have not updated the firmware (I think there was an update at the time that I received them). Took a few attempts of reformatting and trying different settings to get those speeds.

Looking to either get more 120GB drives and a raid controller for more storage and speed or just replace these with 240gb drives.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Running Windows 7 Pro 64 on AMD 780G/SB600 chipset. Came with latest available firmware (3.3.2).

On SATAII, Crystal shows 252MB/s read, 139MB/s write; 4K: 24MB/s read, 51MB/s write.
The whole system does feel pretty snappy, and app launch times are as low as I hoped for.
Rebate received as expected.

Cons: Had an issue with Catalyst versions > 12.1 right after installing Windows to this drive; probably an AMD driver issue, not the SSD. Had to reinstall Windows because of it. Sticking with 11.12 and all is well.

Other Thoughts: Look for some SSD optimization guides. Not strictly necessary on Win 7, but I like to make the most out of my hardware. I have Temp and browser caches redirected to a ramdisk to save writes, and limiting/removing pagefile and hibernation file saves a good amount of space depending on your RAM.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Went from 5.9 to 7.1 on Windows Experience Index. No complaints on performance.

Cons: Doesn't come with a serial cable like most other drives do. Kinda high priced not to have one.
For the money the Kingston Hyper X drive would have been a better buy.

Other Thoughts: Didn't show up in computer till formatted. Which is fairly easy to do just most people lacking knowledge may think its defective because of this. Patriot could have thought better abotu some things but the product is good.

5 out of 5 eggsGood performance, no reliability issues yet

Pros: -Very fast, high read/write speed and good IOps
-Good value per GB, especially when it was on sale with a rebate
-Pyro is a cool name

Cons: As with most current gen SSDs, there still seems to be plenty of quality control issues (see other reviews) where a small portion end up failing in some way or another. Don't let the newegg reviews mislead you too much, this seems to be the case on almost all brands of SSD right now and it only happens to a small percent of them.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the Best!

Pros: This board has never messed up on me since I got it in early 2008. Still use this pc build to this day which includes 8800gt Eva 512mb, E8400 C2D@3.6ghz, Pc Power & Cooling 610w Silencer, Antec 900 case and some DDR 2 Ocz Reapers 4gb. By far the best system I ever built that stood the test of time. Sadly I'm retiring this build for a i5 sandy since everyone will be jumping the Ivy train. Perfect time to upgrade. Peace

Cons: Wish it was still 2008

Other Thoughts: N/a

5 out of 5 eggsNice snappy upgrade.

Pros: Quite snappy even using SATAII connection.
Reasonable price (especially after rebate).

Cons: None.
A 3.5 adapter would have been nice but not a problem.

Other Thoughts: I sold my mATX system before I received this and just slapped it into a Dell Optiplex loaner from work. I love the quick response it provides over a spinning disk. Once you go SSD...there's no going back. I'll be sure to include this in my next system....thinking of an ITX/APU based system as I'm not a gamer.

I've got all my content stored on a separate WHS system.

The rebate process was painless. It takes quite awhile to actually receive the CC, but it's worth the effort and final price. Whiners beware or get your mother to do it for you.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't work on MACs

Pros: Fast and stable for about 60 days, then....

Cons: Random shutdown, death screens, and freezes on 2011 MBP, 13' i5. Formatted and reinstall OSs, still crashing every 5 minutes. Switched back to old HHD, system run perfectly. Confidence issues were from this drive.

Other Thoughts: Stay away!!!!
