5 out of 5 eggsWorked out well in the end

Pros: This memory (2kits, 32GB) gave me some troubles, but I am happy to say that they are resolved now.

On my newly built computer with an asrock z77 extreme4 motherboard I kept getting graphics crashes on ubuntu 12.04.

Initially I thought it was a driver issue, but later discovered that the crash went away with all but one stick.

So I rma'ed that kit. The new kit gave me memtest86+ errors.

I thought I got a bad kit again and even started another rma process.

Then I saw the other kit that I thought was fine earlier gave me memtest errors.

I started suspecting my theory about bad memory.

I tried underclocking to 1333MHz. It didn't help.

I tried increasing the ddr voltage to 1.525V, the number of errors went up.

So on a whim I tried a lower voltage 1.475V (they are the upper and lower limit of the intel memory voltage tolerance specification).

To my surprice there hasn't been any error ever since for more than a month now.

I don't know why it worked. Memtest86+ reports a bandwidth of 18.47GB/s,
1600MHz, 9-9-9-24 timing.

The price is great. Also my rebate is approved.

Cons: Once the memory started working I don't see any cons. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I don't know why I got all these troubles. It might not have been the memory. I didn't try overclocking.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks at 1333

Pros: Works and is very stable at 1333

Cons: Set to run at 1600 in BIOS. Seems to work fine, but then it blue screens when I run graphic intense games. Set back to 1333 and I don't have a problem. The memory has not been approved at 1600 by ASUS on this motherboard, so this might be my bad.

Other Thoughts: Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz
ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77
240GB Kingston HyperX SSD

5 out of 5 eggsGreate memory!!!

Pros: It runs very stable at 1600 (which is default in BIOS).

Cons: I tried to overclock to 1866, but failed. It could be my overclock setting wrong. So just use it at 1600.

Other Thoughts: I use it to replace 8GB G.Skill 2133. System performance is improved. Windows 8 Pro 64-bit can run in 8GB, but whole system speed will be down even using faster memory.

1 out of 5 eggsUnstable

Pros: I cant think of any....

Cons: Will not run stable past 1333. I bought it because it was supposed to be fast but I am disappointed. I have other machines that do less important work that I can move it to otherwise I would send it back.

Other Thoughts: I bought two identical sets. One set was DOA one set was OK. Newegg kindly replaced the dead ones straight away.

2 out of 5 eggsNOT 1.5V!

Pros: Cheap. Decent timings.

Cons: Memory I received was different than advertised. =( Seeming `memory lottery' as to the specs of what you're actually going to get.

Other Thoughts: Imagine my surprise when I opened up my package from Newegg with my first 2x8GB memory kit to find out that the 1.5V memory I thought I was buying (as listed on Newegg at the time, and Patriot's own web site) was in fact 1.65V! I see that Newegg has updated their description to note a range from 1.5V-1.65V, but which is it? Or is it just the luck of the draw? I have _specifically_ bought only 1.5V memory and that's what I thought I was getting.

All of my DDR2 Patriot memory was awesome, but this is the second time I've received inferior spec'ed Patriot memory (the first being a 2x4GB kit of Patriot Signature 1600MHz CL9 ram that I bought to match an old set and was came was CL11 --with EXACTLY the same model number). Other vendors don't seem to have this problem and I really don't like feeling like I'm entering the memory lottery. This was going to go in my home server that is on 24x7 and running the memory at 1.65V vs 1.5V means more power usage and heat. NOT acceptable!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm sorry to hear that there was some confusion over voltage specifications. Rest assured that all of our memory is hand-tested; backed by a lifetime warranty, and ensured to work properly together. The memory will function at 1.50v at default. Please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail and I'll be glad to assist you optimal bios setup.

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory!

Best Regards,
Rick

5 out of 5 eggsBuilt for Speed

Pros: Adjusted settings in my BIOS and ram now runs at 1600MHz. Previews users posted that the ram runs at 1333MHz ... Advice you have to adjust the profiles and set it to XMP profile for it to register 1600MHz

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: none

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't run at speed

Pros: Stable, works

Cons: Only runs at 1333mhz. Bios set to 1600 but still registers as 1333 max, cpu-z and 3dmark clock it at 1333.

Other Thoughts: I won't buy Patriot memory again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm sorry to hear that you had some issues with your memory working at the rated speeds. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory!

3 out of 5 eggsDies easy W/o any OC Hot

Pros: Seemed fine in the beginning as stated before. Bought a quad set of these which NewEgg has stopped selling. Patriot did send me a new dimm in the mail. (not tested yet)

Cons: Contact with Patriot was very detailed on my testing. No reply just sent another stick in the mail. Reliability is not as good as others. No heat sinks and need to be run at 1.6v to work. At 1.6v run hot. No heat sinks. Tried there stuff once and that was enough for me.

Other Thoughts: I am putting this stuff in a no game machine that runs auto-cad and photo shop type stuff. I will see if it is safe there. Always run 2T if using more then two dimms. A must with 4 dimms. Dropping work load on them from AMD 6x two old 4x 955. No over clocking on it at all. Extra Fans

1 out of 5 eggs1 dead in 45 days

3 out of 5 eggs1 dead in 60 days

Pros: Seemed great until one of the 4 sticks I got stopped working 60 days from the date of purchase.

Cons: Never had memory die in 60 days. Been doing this for 25 years and only years ago did memory quit once put into use. Can understand a DOA stick but this test good day 1 and 60 days later the stick is dead. Want to see what company will do for me. If not satisfied will no longer use there products of any type in customer builds. This was my main network machine do not have time for this.

Other Thoughts: If you can't rely on it, why would you by it....I think once was enough for me.
