2 out of 5 eggsDoes not work

Pros: Works great on a mac pc but cannot get it to work on Windows 7 USB 3.0 port. Works great on USB 2.0 but cannot copy to the drive when in a USB 3.0 port. All it does is keep hanging up my P.C.

Cons: Cannot get it to work on Windows 7 USB 3.0 port. Works great on USB 2.0 but cannot copy to the drive when in a USB 3.0 port. All it does is keep hanging up my P.C.

Other Thoughts: Hope they fix it !

5 out of 5 eggsNice Product

Pros: Nice rubber shell, small and good size, per Roadkil's Disk Speed: Access time .56ms - Cached Speed 107 MB/sec -Max Read 89 MB/Sec

Cons: seems to become a little warm due to the rubber shell

Other Thoughts: I did not purchase from newegg, but I would recommend this product

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing! FAST!

Pros: SUPER FAST!, Easy to Use

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I love this usb drive, I probably own 10 different brands of usb drives & this is my favorite! I have the 2.0 older version too. I love how super fast it is! I can't believe how it can transfer large files in under a minute. My other usb drives takes 10 minutes to do what this can do in about a min. I will never buy any other brand but Patriot now.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine, faster than competing

Pros: It tests far, far faster than other brands with similar speed class claims, esp the big name we all know that's everywhere. As of now I'm pretty much a Patriot convert, I've seen other products of theirs w/ similar traits (i.e. they actually live up to spec, unlike some large volume peers, which I tested against)
cheap
small
distinctive look (phht!)

Cons: turns out even a fast usb on a 3.0 is too slow to do any good as a readyboost cache, but it was worth a try. A modern barracuda, let alone a ssd, is fast enough that this actually slows things down. Not a fault of this nice fast usb stick, which is rather nice and very fast.
Thick rubber probably doesn't really protect much in reality, makes it a bit bigger (but smaller than the pic made me think, it's actually pretty small).

Other Thoughts: i really got this to do a cheap semi definitive test of readyboost as part of a broader exploration of caching options using a range of h/w and s/w, in part to cache the slow/frequent loads on SWTOR, but in the end I'll just keep it as a really fast sneakernet. I ended up just relying on superfetch and the drive buffers instead of more funky solutions like extra caching of various types. YMMV. Makes a good flash drive tho, which is all it's really claimed to be.

1 out of 5 eggsIssue installing Windows 7 via this USB drive

Pros: Works for flat files (Word and Excel documents) and VMware ESXi boot-up drives.

Cons: Does not work for Windows 7 installs via USB.

Other Thoughts: I work as an IT consultant and need my drives to be able to do several things other than just storing flat files. I am able to use this as a start-up drive for my VMware virtual hosts, but it does not let me install Windows 7 via USB.

When you get to the point of selecting a partition to install the OS, this is where it fails. I am sure it is a matter of Windows 7 PE not having the driver needed, but since I have been doing this for years without a need for one, I don't want to have to start doing it today.

I hope Patriot sees this review and posts a solution. For now, I will have to stick with the USB 2.0 version.

3 out of 5 eggsBought to test usb 3.0 ports.

Pros: Nice ruggedized housing, good read/write performance on the USB3 ports on an Asus rampage 4 Formula.

Cons: Poor housing attachment. The ports off the mobo on this box are new and a little tight, first time I removed the stick from the port the 'ruggedized' housing came off, and left me with a bare board sticking out of the port.

Looks like it's just a pressure fit, should have been glue'd or filled up with conformal coating.

Other Thoughts: The only reason I picked this up was to make sure that the usb 3 ports on this new build were working properly and at 3.0 rated speeds, so it met that requirement for testing.

4 out of 5 eggsFast (after BIOS/driver update)

Pros: Fast read rate: 85 MB/s (Atto benchmark, Win7). Nautilus claims even higher rates in Linux. 1GB+ files copy from it in seconds. Squishy covering - not worried about scratches or minor drops.

Cons: Slow write speed: 10 MB/s (Atto).

Other Thoughts: Goes without saying, but make sure your BIOS and USB drivers are up-to-date! If not, the drive can only operate at USB 2.0 speeds. It's also on the bulky side, like most decent USB 3.0 drives.

4 out of 5 eggsymmv

Pros: -looks good
-pretty inexpensive

Cons: -cap
-low write speed

Other Thoughts: tested on an asrock 870 extreme 3, atto showed 10 write, 84 read.
tested on an asrock z77 extreme 4, atto showed 10 write, 35 read.
obviously theres some kind of driver issue that i have to pin down, but those are my initial results with this piece. im not unhappy with it because it wasnt very expensive but its not a thrilling upgrade from my usb 2.0 sticks.
