  • newegg Single-chip USB 3.0 Design with 8-Channel Technology The Patriot Supersonic Magnum series eliminates performance bottlenecks introduced when using a separate USB 3.0 bridge chip by integrating a native USB 3.0 flash memory controller. This results in a smaller footprint and higher performance than bridge-based solutions. By pairing the controller with Patriot 8-Channel technology, the Patriot Supersonic Magnum achieves sequential read speed up to 200MB/s and sequential write speed up to 120MB/s.
  • newegg Ultra Durable and Portable A durable aluminum enclosure enables shock resistance up to 15Gs for better protection of your data. And a smaller physical size of the Supersonic Magnum USB 3.0 flash drive allows for even greater portability and style.
  • newegg A rating of 9/10 from The “lightning fast” and “light wight” Supersonic drive has won a rating of 9/10! “Sharing files, traveling from place to place, from work to home and back, it can’t get much easier and faster than with the Patriot Supersonic USB 3.0 Flash Drive.” “For another comparison test I ran a test on a Hitachi SATA 3GB drive and it too was beaten down by the Patriot Supersonic flash drive, but it did not come in last as it whipped the tar out of the "so-called" USB 3.0 drive from Western Digital. The Patriot Supersonic Flash Drive was 68% faster on the Read and 12% faster on the Write.” Read the full article by following the link:

1 out of 5 eggsPure Unadulterated Garbage

Pros: None whatsoever.

Cons: Totally worthless.

Other Thoughts: I wish I could give this a zero rating.
Bought two of these because of their capacity. First one did not work at all. My computer did not even recognize that I had plugged it in. Second one died the first time I tried to use it. Stopped in the middle of a large file transfer and my computer no longer recognizes it when I plug it in.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsVery Fast

Pros: Very fast drive. I am able to copy my larger files in no time at all. Great for carrying my movies and music around with me when I travel.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: If you travel a lot, this is a great drive to own. It's very good at copying larger files (movies) in a short time.

1 out of 5 eggsI am Extremely Disapointed !!!

Pros: Stores a lot of data, but does so very slowly, See Cons.

Cons: THIS DRIVE IS EXTREMELY SLOW! When I've used this drive, I've learned to get a backup going and then walk away while it takes hours to backup. Also, It does get very warm to hot after backing up files for a while as other reviewers noted. USB 3.0 speed claims are preposterous. I have other USB Flash drives, one other by Patriot and one by Toshiba and they both work MUCH faster. This drive is so slow as to be useless to me.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive from Patriot as I had had great performance from their rubberized 32GB SuperSonic XT drive and I hoped that this drive would perform the same. NOT! Please note that I am using this drive from openSUSE Linux version 12.3 and it has very poor performance. When I complained to Patriot Tech Support, they asked me to test it's data transfer speed under Windows. I did not have a Windows computer at the time, only Linux. They insisted that they would NOT give me an RMA unless I tested this drive with Windows. At that point I gave up on ever using this drive for it's intended use - doing backups.

2 out of 5 eggsHow not to do a high storage USB 3.0 flash drive

Pros: Fast write/read speeds
Looks nice

Cons: Nowhere near as fast as the specs say
Housing fell apart after a couple weeks of use because of poor design and bad materials
HUGE housing makes it very inconvenient as a flash drive
Tends to get hot after transferring large files
Frequently tries to re-install drivers upon insertion

Other Thoughts: I bought this when it first came out as it was the first of its kind and seemed like the best on the market. After trying it out the first time I noticed that the 100+ read/write speeds was clearly a lie, I barely got over 60mbps write using fastcopy on a usb 3.0 port, 8 core processor, 32gb ram computer. A few weeks later the flash drive fell out of the housing when I tried to insert it into a laptop at work. I had to tape it together until I found some super glue.

The housing has a big, clunky, poor design which falls apart because when you insert it, you're actually pushing it apart from the adhesive that holds it together. It's also so big so if you have adjacent ports, you're going to have to remove one so make room for this big thing.

I transferred about 750gb worth of files from my old laptop using this and it got really hot. Hopefully the heat doesn't destroy the drive, but I'm sure it also played a part into the housing falling apart as enough heat can mess with the adhesive.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst device EVER

Pros: NONE, because it doesn't work.

Cons: When copying files over to the device, the device became write-protected, for some reason. Patriot support was nice enough to email me a restore tool, but that only worked temporarily. After 3 more attempts to copy files and 3 "restores", the device is has totally failed now. Windows can no longer recognize the device. I cannot even use the Restore tool that patriot gave me. It doesn't recognize it either.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: It's fast, but...

Cons: I bought two of these to backup important financial and legal data. Halfway through copying the data, both drives went into a funky read only/write protected mode. I ran the unlock utility from the patriot memory website, but it only temporarily unlocked the drives.

When I formatted them out again with NTFS and started recopying the data the same thing happened again as I copying the data back onto the drives. This time the unlock utility would not unlock the drives and I ended up with drives with half my data that was unable to be erased.

I was going to RMA the drives, but I had second thoughts after realizing that the drives had important financial data on them. So I ended up smashing the drives with a sledge hammer and throwing them in the trash.

Now I am out of a bunch of my time and some serious $$$.

Other Thoughts: I've used many patriot memory products in the past including the 128GB version of these drives with absolutely no problems. I'm guessing something has changed in these 256GB drives. Perhaps they have a new chipset/firmware.

I find it a bit silly that these drives have a write protection feature that can kick in with half your data on them. I find it even worse that the unlock utility doesn't always work.

Bottom line...Buy something else if you have data that you actually care about.

5 out of 5 eggsCan't wait for the Terabyte one

Pros: Fast, even with small files. I filled up half capacity with just stuff in less than 20 minutes (large and small file mix).

Cons: There may be a problem in the future if I need to insert this in a USB 3.0 card adapter where those typically put the ports very close together. This is a wide body unit, so you may want to consider buying a short USB 3.0 jumper to circumvent that type of problem. Also if you're transferring a LOT of data, the unit gets very warm, so don't use this in a hot environment.

Other Thoughts: With only half filled up, I think this will last me for some time. I don't have any movies copied over yet, but they should still fit with room to spare. Worth the money for speed and capacity. You could even install an operating system on this so if someone steals your laptop, you still have your data; it would be faster than a mechanical HDD installed.
