3 out of 5 eggsCheap, but works...mostly

Pros: Not terribly expensive, provides a bunch of different card reader slots, although I only used the SD and MicroSD ones. Works fine for transferring photos off my digital camera card and to my phone and tablet cards. Added a USB 3 port to my old case that didn't have one.

Cons: The same stuff everyone else has complained about. Not very well built, which probably explains a lot of the early deaths of these readers. Uses up the only USB 3 header on my motherboard, which is unfortunate now that I have a case with USB 3 ports on the front. I have an adapter on the way to allow it to connect to a USB 2 header instead though, so that's not the end of the world.

Other Thoughts: There's no point spending a lot of time talking about this reader. The other reviews pretty much cover what you need to know. The main reason I'm even bothering with this review is to share what I had to do to get mine working again when I swapped it to a new case and it stopped reading cards.

Basically what I think happened is that in the course of doing cable management I jiggled the cord too much and it loosened the connection inside. Note that the cord for the card readers is not soldered down - it's just a male USB plug that connects to a slot on the circuit board. And a very cheap slot at that, which I think was the source of my trouble.

To fix it, I pulled apart the case, breaking the left tab on the face plate like everyone else (as long as you're not pulling on the face it stays in place fine anyway), and pulled the plug out of the board. Fortunately the glue holding it in wasn't especially robust either. I then took a small screwdriver and pressed in on all of the little connection tabs around the slot that make contact with the outside of the plug. After that I carefully put it back together, reinstalled it, and as of this writing it's still working. I'm crossing my fingers that it stays that way.

Hope this helps someone else out there.

Pros: NONE!!!

Cons: This has to be the worst product I have ever purchased. The build quality is very poor, and I mean very poor! I cant even install this in my computer because the face plates don't even fit correctly and in order to change them you have to completely take the unit apart. This will definitely be the last Rosewill product I will ever buy.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and buy any other product on Newegg besides a Rosewill!

Pros: It has lots of holes that are supposed to accept lots of cards. It is inexpensive.

Cons: It is also cheap. I bought an open box version of this reader and installed it in a brand new motherboard and then did a clean install of Windows 7 to a brand new hard drive. Hard for the manufacturer to argue that I had OS issues when this hardware was in place prior to the initial installation of the OS. This product was never recognized by Windows. It was as if it was not plugged in. Completely dead on arrival.

Other Thoughts: I had the earlier model of this product that had USB 2.0. It only worked for a couple of months before it also disappeared from the OS. In both products the pass-through USB port also stopped working, so we are talking a total failure of the product two times in a row. I will not be purchasing another internal card reader from Rosewill ever again. It's not worth the risk.

I did not return the first unit I had. I decided to return this one, but it cost me more than half of what I paid for it just for the return shipping. Not worth it, but I wanted to make a statement by giving it back to them.

Pros: When it works, it works. Until it doesn't anymore.

Cons: I don't know how my luck is so bad, I've had to RMA 4 of these already in about a year and a half and now the 5th one they sent me just died. I also have to argue with them for every RMA to pay for the return shipping. Had I paid for shipping each time I would've spent much more than the unit itself.

Other Thoughts: I get that it's a cheap product but how can your quality control be this bad?? I wish there were other better options. But I will definitely never purchase a rosewill product ever again.

Pros: Easy USB 3.0 Istal on Motherboard. Only requires 1 connection, not two!

Cons: Removing the swappable faceplate (it comes with two) will break your until. In my case the CF card reader was wedged up against the faceplate clamp. It is impossible to remove the faceplate without breaking

Other Thoughts: Newegg was awesome and gave me a giftcard to replace this garbage unit. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this card reader, its very cheap, like the price.

You get what you pay for...

Pros: Blue indicator light to signal power. Transfers faster than USB 2.0 as expected.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: All slots tested except for CF slot but don't have any and don't care for it.

Pros: - USB 3.0, so it's really fast to read/write
- Easy to install
- Black or Grey face plates

Cons: - Does not include mounting hardware (screws)

Other Thoughts: Works great on Windows 8.1. Plugged it in without even turning my machine off and it was recognized immediately.

Got this for transferring photos from a DSLR which only had USB 1.1 connection. Copyinga few gigs from the sd card takes minutes instead of hours.

I would have gave it 5 stars if it had the screws included. I had to hunt for extras an it's a little wobbly in the case now.
