Pros: If it works, the number of supported card types and the extra ports. Fits in 5.25" bay.

Cons: The system will not boot with this thing hooked up. The first one was DOA, and the second one lasted a week. It seems like a short is at fault, so the craftsmanship on these has earned a low rating from me.

Other Thoughts: I would avoid this, and look into a more reliable multi-reader.

Pros: Includes USB 3.0 ports & 5.25" form factor fits modern cases that have no external 3.5" bays.

Cons: Too shallow for tool-less bay mounting. Had to remove clips and use screws.

SD Card slot - very difficult to insert card into slot. I have to start by pushing the card in at a slight angle then wiggle it to make the card fit. Often the write-protect tab gets pushed as the card is being inserted.

Honestly, it's ridiculously difficult to insert an SD card into this thing.

Other Thoughts: In addition to being very difficult to insert an SD card, which is the primary reason I bought the reader, the contacts in the card slot make a "crinkling" sound every time a card is inserted or removed. It almost sounds like the copper contacts are bending or coming loose.

I'd recommend you buy something else. I am very dissatisfied with this card reader, it's by far the worst one I've owned. To be honest, I've only owned 4, but this one is at the bottom.

Pros: A really annoying way to maybe get two extra USB 3.0 ports.

Cons: This is an update to my prior review. I was sent a defective unit in which the USB 2.0 ports were in a constant mount/dismount cycle and within a month all other ports failed. I was issued an RMA and was sent another unit in which the USB 2.0 ports are dead out of the box. Based on other reviews this product appears to be a complete dud with severe, persistent manufacturing issues. Our company purchased Rosewill parts historically because they were cheap but functional. Now they are not even functional.

Other Thoughts: It costs about $10 a pop to return the devices, so after a couple of failed devices it is no longer even valuable to return them. Save yourself the annoyance and select another product.

Pros: lots of slots, USB ports

Cons: Did not securely anchor in bay, failed to read cards after 2 months use.

Pros: Looks good.

Cons: System failed less than a month after receipt. It could have been that way out of the box. Only one 3.0 USB ports worked and none of the USB 2.0 ports worked. All card readers dead. SATA port dead and shorted out motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Appears to be quality issue at the manufacturer.

2 out of 5 eggsIntermittent issues

Pros: When it works it does what it should. I work in the forensics field so the ability to rapidly insert various types of media is useful.

Cons: Best guess is the device has some type of short in the USB 2.0 setup. Noticed it when the system was first built but it stopped for about a month then slowly but surely has become more common. The operating system will now continuously "ding" as if a device has been removed then re-inserted even if there is no activity going on. Investigation with the device manager and system logs shows it to be the ports that run over the USB 2.0 interface on this device. They will all suddenly unmount/remount for no reason. We've moved cables, checked power, etc, etc, to no avail. Might just be a bad unit but shows a poor level of construction.

Pros: Looks Good

Cons: Its a paperweight. Never could get it to power on.

Other Thoughts: Would have been perfect had it worked. RMA, here it comes. Perhaps the 2nd unit will work.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap, Fast, 5.25"

Pros: My computer case does not have a small 3.5" slot but I needed a fast USB 3 card reader. This one fits my needs and it did not cost a small fortune. Transfer rates were much faster than USB 2 especially of you are doing any video work.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I wrote a previously bad report claiming that the front USB ports failed after a week. Well after some investigation, it was my fault. The USB 3 card which this device was plugged into came loose from the MB. Once I tightened the card, USB ports are now working. So it is not always the product's fault. I asked for my bad report to be removed. This is my second submission.
