4 out of 5 eggsGreat Upgrade

Pros: Works great. Must have upgrade for a 2GB MacBook Pro. Did not require special tools to install. I use the machine constantly and have never had any crashes.

Cons: I'm fairly certain it runs hotter than the stock RAM. As the fans in my old MacBook are wearing out, I'm starting to have overheating problems and CPU throttling; I suspect this RAM contributes to the problem. I didn't have this problem for at least a year after installing the RAM; so I imagine replacing the laptop's fans will fix the problem.

Other Thoughts: This RAM gets so hot it melted and then detached the polyurethane finish of a cheap table, in an exact square where the RAM lives inside the laptop. I now stick a book under the laptop when placing it on melt-able surfaces. I do not know if the stock RAM would have done this.

2 out of 5 eggsNOT FOR LATE-2006 IMAC CORE DUO

Pros: PRICE. ALTHOUGH PRICE INCREASES WHEN SOLD OUT.

Cons: CANNOT INSERT TWO IN LATE-2006 IMAC WHICH SHOWS SAME SPECIFICATIONS. ONLY ONE CHIP WILL SHOW IF UNIT POWERS-ON THE VIDEO AT ALL. EACH WORK INDEPENDENTLY ALONE BUT NEITHER WORK WITH ANY SECOND CHIP.

Other Thoughts: I had seen posts on various Mac forums about this scenario so I was careful to select the proper chips. I could find no combination where one of these chips would work with any other, including the matched pair, an Apple-factory (samsung) 1GB or a second Samsung 1GB. I could get any single 2GB chip to work, but that isn't an upgrade. Not sure is this is specific to Late-2006 iMac.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

All Core Duo-based Macs only support 2GB maximum for RAM. This is a firmware limitation and not a function of the memory.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Please feel free to contact us at sales@mushkin.com to check compatibility for future upgrades.

Thanks!

5 out of 5 eggsIt's Ram

Pros: It's ram, I mean it works or it doesn't. In my case it did :). Nice packaging, not hermetically sealed like a lot of products today. Could actually open and close the packaging with my hands, not with a straight blade.

Cons: Have to use win 7 32bit through bootcamp, so it only addresses 2.72GB worth.. but that's not the ram's fault.

Other Thoughts: If your thinking your computer is running a little slow, do a fresh install of the OS and upgrade your ram. Your rig will feel like new.

5 out of 5 eggsGood customer service!

Pros: This is a follow up of my previous post. Mushkin had new memory in my hands 5 business days after I dropped it off at the post office. I feel good about buying Mushkin for my future memory needs.

Cons: They didn't send any free candy bars with the memory:-)

Other Thoughts: Buy Mushkin, they stand behind their product.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for a while...

Pros: Good price, good upgrade from stock 2gb, especially when running Vista via boot camp. Worked fine for almost a year.

Cons: One day recently the Macbook wouldn't boot, just beeped at me. 1 stick went bad. The bad thing is since they were sold as a "kit" I have to send both the bad and the good stick back on the RMA. So now my Macbook is useless while I'm waiting for some replacement memory.

Other Thoughts: I'll post an update with the turn-around time when I get the replacements.
