2 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model 996758

Pros: They look cool. The one that worked did the job while it was installed.

Cons: Installed both sticks, one was DOA. Sucks I have to return both because they came in one package. Blows my mind that it's costing me an extra $10 to ship back two sticks of RAM for a replacement. They weigh like 10 oz.! Newegg needs to make the manufacturers reimburse them for shipping defective product, so they can reimburse the customers. An atrocious policy IMO.

Other Thoughts: Gave a 2-egg because at least one worked, and I don't blow up because it wasn't a perfect product. 1 out of 2 ain't bad!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model 996758

Pros: Cheap, good as an update for older systems that you want to get a little more use out of.

Cons: One out of the four DIMMs I got was defective. I started the RMA, will see how that goes.

1 out of 5 eggsNot good

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model 996758

Pros: Needed some RAM to max out my Windows XP machine (before I learned the many ways that the /3GB switch can be bad news). These were at a good price and had excellent reviews, looked pretty cool too.

Cons: First set gave me crashing programs, frozen system, and some loss of access to data. Then it just started giving me BSODs. I returned for an exchange from Newegg, no big deal, everybody gets a bad stick every now and then. Second set wouldn't even allow my PC to boot, just a black screen. This time it was sent back for a refund.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to get to 3GB of RAM in this PC using a dual channel pair of 512MB sticks (there's already a dual channel pair of 1GBs in there, bringing it to 2GB). There aren't many options out there for dual channel in a DDR2 these days, and usually they're much slower as well. I ordered a single 1GB G Skill single stick that matches the specs of the other RAM in there and I think I'll call that good. I don't mind making small improvements to the PC I'm talking about, but it is old and if I was going to spend some real money I'd start a whole new build instead.
