3 out of 5 eggsMushkin MKNSSD 120BG SSD

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Purchased to put in 4 year old Pavilion Elite HPE mother board with only Sata II headers. Thanks HP for low quality OEM mother boards for an otherwise awesome computer.

Cons: Surprised, because Muskin productsthat I've purchaced have always been of good quality.
The corrector for the SATA cable is a weak link. It has no apparent receiver for the locking clip in the SATA cable. Tried several SATA II and SATA III cables of various brands and it was the same for all. Feels like if the cable gets bumped it will pop off and loose connection.
Poor design, or perhaps mine SSD is faulty. Thinking of RMA.

Other Thoughts: Samsung seem to have better quality overall in SSD design so far
Using as OS drive for HTPC/multi-purpose machine setup. Applications will be on separate 250GB drive, data/movies/music are on NAS.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast drive... my Win7 loads in 10 secs. I never used SSD before but from now on all of my system files will be located on SSD - huge difference in performance.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsGives an F4 blue screen

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Is extremely fast when it wants to be.

American company, normally very high quality.

Cons: After getting the system perfect I left it alone for about 2 hours. came back and despite all Windows power setting set to stay on at all times (performance) the SSD seemed to have gone totally unresponsive. Come to find out that no matter what you do, if the SSD is left alone for more than 2 hrs it becomes unresponsive.

Weird thing is, it still left the desktop loaded into memory. I could still move the mouse but nothing would open at all. At one point after it froze I even disconnected the SSD and it made absolutely no difference. I was still able to move the mouse, etc but not open anything.

Troubleshooting done (even while reinstalling the OS several times with the issue always returning):

Updating the BIOS to latest (v.30)

Trying different chipset and SATA controller drivers from both the CD that came with the board and AMD themselves

Tried letting it sit before doing ANYTHING to the OS including updates, latest drivers, etc and the issue still happened. (SSD just went unresponsive)

I finally grabbed an ordinary HDD and did all the same updates, etc and it is still doing fine after a few hours. If it is stilklike that after anothe rhour, then anothe reboot and updates, I'll need to RMA this one.

Other Thoughts: Win7 x64 with all updates
MSI A78M-E35 motherboard
A8-5600K CPU
8GB memory
TRIM enabled
Windows boot timer reports 10.5 seconds boot time. Incredibly fast for a budget rig.

I am typing this out on a Mushkin 90GB Callisto Deluxe from 3 years ago so I know they make good stuff. Just not the one I got this time.

1 out of 5 eggsNice while it lasts

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This is a nice and affordable SSD. Easily outperforms its price tag.

Cons: Short life span.

Other Thoughts: I am currently on my third SSD. The first one was on my personal computer. It died about 18 months after I got it and it was under heavy multi media/video game and graphics use so I chalked its failure up to my demanding use.

The second one I purchased for a work PC and it was DOA. Newegg handled the RMA process without any issue.

The third one has worked great for just over a year now and just has spontaneously died.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Product Ever Two Bad Drives!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: None.

Cons: worst drive ever. not 1 but 2 bad drives. Do NOT BUY this type of drive. Mushkin is still warranting these drives for me. Been waiting over two weeks. Drives died after being put into operation after two months.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed, TWICE

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap, when I bought it, now its more than the drive I replaced my first one with

Cons: 2 Failures in less than a year

Other Thoughts: I purchased 3 of these drives to use as the primary drive on several PCs around my house, so far one died after 9 months and the other just died today (almost exactly a year since purchase) I probably could have warrantied the first one however as it was the primary drive on a daily driver I just ordered a new drive from a different brand. With the second failure I feel it probably isn't even worth trying to get a replacement and I am worried about the longevity of the remaining drive.

1 out of 5 eggs2 weeks runnig os S the bed

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Worked Great mounted right up installed OS was perfect for 2 weeks.

Cons: Corrupted data after 2 weeks ran disk repair utlities, lasted another week. Will not show up in windows or bios, not useable at all. Not happy could think of other more enjoyable ways to burn up 100$.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks really well

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast fast boot ups. Old HP laptop had a lot of software and background processes running (for work) so it was crawling, crashing and I was cursing.

Imaged old hard drive to new using Linux boot disk and dongle.

Handles everything I throw at it. No more lock ups and no more BSOD.

Cons: Could be cheaper. I paid $104.99 in Nov 2013.

Other Thoughts: This SSD is SATA2.

The SATA3 disks are cheaper and are backward compatible. BUT, after reading many reviews, it seems that when a SATA3 SSD is plugged into a SATA2 bus, there must be some overhead for the backward compatiblity.

It SEEMS that a SATA3 SSD plugged into an SATA2 bus is slightly slower than a SATA2 SSD plugged into an SATA2 bus.

So after reading many reviews, I opted for the same SDD/bus SATA2 level. Your mileage may vary.
