5 out of 5 eggsSo far..... Great!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL240GB-DX 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I have a Dell Studio 15 from 2009 and it has been through a lot of heavy use between school and some gaming here and there. After a while I started getting BSOD and the computer started hanging and running sluggish. So I had been keeping my eyes open for a 250gb SSD for around 100 dollars. So when I came across this SSD I jumped at it since it fit my needs perfectly. I imaged my old HDD (500gb Samsung 7200rpm) and recovered the image over to the SSD. Popped it in to the laptop and boom! It Works! Since then my laptop is quite, quick and cooler! It is actually quite amazing how much heat my HDD was adding to my laptop.

Cons: A lot of the reviews mentioned this drive failing within two years which is disappointing. But lets hope I have a good one. I'm still holding my breath a bit just in case.

Other Thoughts: I have been very satisfied with this product so far and for those older laptops this is an excellent choice.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 24mo

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL240GB-DX 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Worked well for 2 years.

Cons: Died 24 months after installation.

Other Thoughts: I'm unsure if the life of this drive is indicative of SSD's as a whole or if this particular drive was a lemon. I will definitely try another manufacturer next time around.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat if it would last

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL240GB-DX 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast, good size, decently priced

Cons: The first one I had lasted about a year and a half. After going through the RMA process with Mushkin, the replacement drive failed in less than 3 months

Other Thoughts: workload was primarily gaming for this drive. read intensive, occasional writes. there's no reason for a solid state to have had such a short lifespan with this workload

1 out of 5 eggsDrive died after 1 yr

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL240GB-DX 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Drive worked great for 13 months.

Cons: Started my laptop yesterday and the drive was malfunctioning. The BIOS reported it but showed now drive size. Slaved the drive into another laptop. Still would not boot and the bios still reported the no boot drive found. Tried drive repair (GUI and command line) through Win 7 install with no luck. Slaved the drive into my desktop and Win showed the drive but no size and would not allow formatting or dynamic conversion.

Other Thoughts: Just submitted a ticket to Mushkin for a replacement. Not sure what happened but my theory is the sandforce controller malfunctioned. Bottom line...don't but this drive.

4 out of 5 eggsMushkin 240GB Sata II

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL240GB-DX 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I purchased this SSD back in April of this year. This thing worked great out of the box. I got it installed in my hard drive bay and cabled in and booted my disk up with it for the operating system installation and drivers. Roughly took about an hour to have it booting up. I didn't really believe the hype about SSD's being faster than Sata's but it's true. There are no moments of the hard drive thinking or pausing, you click on something and it opens. You login to windows and it's there. BAM. I bought this to further upgrade my gaming rig, nothing ridiculous, I just play World of Warcraft on Ultra. The frame rates doubled and it was just overall more solid. Anyways, long story short, 5 months after buying and installing this hard drive I brought my computer out of hibernation and the drive was no longer recognized. Ran some tests and the boot path was trashed and the hard drive is toast, even connected to a different machine. Contacted Muskin via an online ticket, got a response back the next day. It has a 3 year warranty, I gave them proof that I was the original purchaser and the specs of my machine and they approved a replacement. Shipping off the dead one to them today, anticipate a new one within a week or so. Wasn't a hassle dealing with customer support at all. So it sucks it died, but I'm thankful I'm not coming out of pocket to replace it and if anything like this happens again it can be replaced with little to no hassle (for the next 2 and 1/2 years anyways). So the drive works great, if it breaks and it's not your fault, the customer service is excellent as well. 4 stars for performance and customer service, docked 1 since it died after 5 months.

Cons: Died after 5 months.

Other Thoughts: Keeping a backup of your primary drive eliminates having to freak out about a hard drive crashing. Be prepared for hardware to fail, because it does that without warning, and you're good to go.

1 out of 5 eggsMush. I said MUSH SSD - MUSH!!!

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL240GB-DX 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price was the leading factor in my selection of this SSD drive.

Cons: Dead and no longer recognized in my Toshiba laptop and was not very fast for other SSD's - but then again I paid only $160. I bought it in December and put it in a laptop for my daughter who only used it for the last 3 or 4 months and it died in Early July.

Other Thoughts: I am asking for an RMA and hopefully it will last for a long time but I am skeptical.

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL240GB-DX 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: inexpensive, fast.

Cons: Unacceptably high failure rate. bought 3, 2 failed (not visible in bios) in 1st year, one of the replacement RMAs failed 6mo later.

Other Thoughts: save yourself the trouble & buy a samsung, intel or crucial.
