2 out of 5 eggsWorked good when it did work

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast bootup. Faster than regular HDD.

Cons: Received the drive in Nov, 2011. Started having problems from the day I received the drive. Could not install Windows 7 on it. Had to bring to a Computer shop to install Windows for me (Cost me $90). Then every so often the drive was not being recognized. Then for the last month the the drive was not being recognized consistently.
RMA'ed the drive 2 weeks ago, Mushkin quickly responded and sent me my replacement drive.
Received the replacement drive. Started reinstalling Windows 7, stopped at 13%. Restarted installation, ran great. Installed all of the updates, computer crashed. Restarted the computer, drive was not found. Put the drive in my laptop, "No OS found". No OS found?!?!?
RMA'ed this drive, Mushkin quickly responded. I just sent this drive back. Will see what happens when I get the new drive.

Other Thoughts: I have not had any problems with any other Mushkin products. This drive is the only problem I have had. I will still continue to use Mushkin. They could have received bad parts from their suppliers. Sometimes it is not the manufacturing companies problem, it is their supplier. I have worked in a electronic manufacturing facility, and we had the some problem, supplier sent us bad parts.
I don't understand people who may have only tried one item from a manufacturer, have it fail and say "I AM NEVER GOING TO USE THEIR PRODUCTS AGAIN!!!" Things happen. I could see if you have had many of one manufacturer's products fail, and then say 'I will not use them again."
As I said before,I believe in Mushkin products and will still continue to use their products.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat...when it works

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast boot times, benches at or above the stated speeds, solid construction, came with 3.5" drive adapter

Cons: I have had 2 fail on me...the first lasted over a year, then it would become unrecognizable if i so much as touched my computer. the sata plugs were loose. Mushkin RMA'd it without fuss, and sent me a brand new one back. That one was faulty right out of the box. firmware update did not help. I RMA's that one and they overnighted me another new one, and it is working just fine now. I just hope it lasts me a few years before it fails

Other Thoughts: Mushkin's customer service is the reason i didnt give it 1 egg. The first RMA was as expected, i paid for shipping, but they sent me a brand new retail boxed SSD. when that one failed, i got a quick response with a prepaid FedEx label and recieved another new drive less than a week later.
I am still skeptical of the sandforce drive, but Mushkin will continue to get my business.

4 out of 5 eggsFast, but problematic

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: *Nice and fast
*128GB is a good size for most desktop needs when paired with a standard HDD for personal data

Bought this drive to be the primary OS boot drive for my build in May 2012. Personal data, such as music and whatnot, is saved to a Western Digital HDD, so capacity wasn't a worry. Its speed was excellent, providing short OS boot times and quick application loads.

Cons: * Suffered the known Sandforce controller issues that caused random drive disconnects

Immediately after installation, it started having problems that could be traced back to the known Sandforce power issues. Frequently, when resuming from standby, the drive would simply fail to initialize properly and my system would bluescreen. It would then take a hard power off and on to get the drive back.

Fast forward about a year and, oddly enough, the problems got worse. I'd been able to keep running with it because it would only rarely happen, and ONLY when resuming from standby. But then the drive began disconnecting itself during regular operation. I ended up replacing this drive with another brand in my desktop. Attempting to image the data on the Mushkin to the new competing drive would actually cause the Mushkin to disconnect itself. So it'd gotten quite bad. With the Mushkin now out of use, I was able to RMA it to the company. Hurray for a generous three-year warranty!

Other Thoughts: I'm now trying out, in a resuscitated four-year-old laptop, the replacement drive that Mushkin sent. We'll see how the replacement holds up. So far so good. Not a single bluescreen in Windows 7 Home Premium despite multiple resumes from Hibernation and Standby. So mayhaps the Sandforce issues have finally been fixed.

5 out of 5 eggsPassed the Test of Time

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I have been running two of these in RAID 0 for 13 months now. One of them I have been using since September 2011. Benchmarks show data transfer speeds well beyond the "Speed Limit" of SATA III. Sequential Read 1030 MB/s, Sequential Write 750 MB/s. You cannot go wrong with this model. If you could only do one thing to improve your rig, this would be the heaviest hitter out there.

Cons: Never

Other Thoughts: I remember paying $240 for the first one, it is nice to see the price go down as technology advances.

2 out of 5 eggsNot dependable

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: -7.9 WEI
-Very fast!
-Worked fantastically for nearly a year
-Never gave me an issue (until death)

Cons: -Randomly wouldn't be detected by BIOS when I came home from work 8 months after initial installation.

Other Thoughts: Lost a lot of stuff, really peeved. SSD showed no signs of failure, just quit working.
Don't relax with this drive!

5 out of 5 eggsNo Complaints

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Installed it 8 months ago, and have both Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed and working fine. Fast boot time.

Cons: Space is still an issue, even with 120 GB to work with. You'd be surprised how fast it fills up.

5 out of 5 eggsFollow Up Review - Excellent SSD

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This is a follow up review to my 5 DEC 2011 review. This drive has been absolutely flawless and has worked perfectly in every way possible. Eleven months of ownership and no complaints at all. The drive continues to boot everytime, shuts down cleanly, no errors, no BSOD, no faults at all.

Be certain to install the latest drivers from Mushkin if your drive did not come with it. Follow the instructions and the driver install will be pain free.

Cons: None, none what so ever.

Other Thoughts: I originally had a concern about the cable connector but honestly, it was an unfounded concern.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good.

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Bought two of these - not set up in raid. No failures and no problems. Works fast as advertised. Tests on my computer show them 350mb/s read and 260mb/s write. These lower speeds are to be expected since my chipset is x58 even though they are set up through sata 3 ports. To achieve their full potential, I'll need a new motherboard (like z77 would do) or a controller card.

Cons: None.
